What a series finale
5 August 2018 | by Sleepin_DragonSee all my reviews

The utterly brilliant first series of Afterlife comes to an end with the fantastic 7.59 Club. An episode that's very different from what's gone before, here we get exactly what I was expecting, seances, blown out candles, blinking dolls etc, every possible horror cliche is rammed in here, to good effect. I will forgive this episode, as prior to this the level of restraint shown by the producers was quite remarkable, at no point did they over egg the pudding, until now, but because it hadn't happened, it works so well here.

Finally Robert is drawn into Alison's world, previously it had all been on his terms, here he's forced to participate in a series of events that push him to his emotional extreme. Very cleverly written, this is a big script, with huge performances, I needn't comment on Sharp, she's magnificent as always, but here Lincoln shines too, his best performance to date, Phyllida Law is terrific as the selfish and single minded Irene.

What a way to end a series, this was superb. 10/10
