- The sequel is chronologically set two years after the original film. Anita Rajan (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), CEO of an international electrical power firm based in London, holds a meeting with Mike Rajan (Victor Banerjee), her father and Hassan Qazi (Govind Namdeo), as a seemingly shady adviser and facilitator; regarding an ambitious proposal to set up a multi-million dollar power plant in rural parts of the state of Maharashtra in India.
Qazi states that this project will be impossible due to possible political entanglements. When Anita asks him for a solution, Qazi states that enlisting the support of Subhash Nagre (Amitabh Bachchan) (commonly referred to by his title of Sarkar), who he describes as a criminal in the garb of a popular and influential political leader, might help their cause.
Shankar Nagre (Abhishek Bachchan) is Subhash's son & is now his right hand man. Hasan is working with fellow politician Karunesh Kaanga (Sayaji Shinde) to diminish Sarkar's political hold on the state of Maharashtra. Kaanga is sick of playing second fiddle in Sarkar's world & wants to become the CM of the state, by usurping the current CM Shinde, who has Sarkar's backing & support. Sarkar officially announces Shankar to be his successor at a public rally on his 60th birthday. CM Shinde brings Anita & Hasan to meet Sarkar on his Bday. Anita says that Thakurwadi in Maharashtra is the best location for a rs 200,000 Crore power plant which will require the relocation of 5 villages & effect a total of 40,000 people. Sarkar is pissed at Shinde for supporting such a disruptive project. while Anita gives up hope, Hasan points out that Shankar was quite during the whole meeting. Meaning Shankar was supportive of the project, which Sarkar opposed on socialists grounds.
Shankar convinces Sarkar that this project is good for the benefit of the entire state & that 40,000 people should not stand in its way. Rao Saab (Dilip Prabhavalkar) is Sarkar's political guru & resides in Thakurwadi. Shankar requests Sarkar to convince Rao Saab for the project. Rao Saab reluctantly gives his approval based on Sarkar's belief in the project, but warns Shankar that he would face difficulties, including Rao Saab's grand son Sanjay Somji who is impulsive & cannot stand anything against the welfare of his villages.
Shankar meets Anita & Hasan to confirm his support to the project. In Anita's absence Hasan tries to bribe Shankar. Shankar warns Anita to keep everyone one the project clean & honest. Anita responds by firing Hasan. Shankar & Anita travel to all villages in Thakurwadi to convince the villagers in favor of the project. This brings Anita & Shankar closer together. Sanjay Somji works to agitate the villagers against the project & even Rao Saab expresses his inability to convince him. Meanwhile Shankar has trouble with Sarkar's loyal servant Chander, who has risen in Sarkar's organization through the years, but now is using his position for personal gain. Shankar orders Chander to fix a meeting with Sanjay Somji. Kantilal Vohra, a Gujrati politician, tries to bribe Sarkar to bring the Thakurwadi project to Gujarat, but Sarkar rebuffs him. Kantilal joins hands with Hasan & Kaanga.
Avantika (Tanisha Mukherjee) is Shankar's wife & gets pregnant with his child. Avantika is killed in a car bomb blast, organized by Hasan & Kaanga, while Shankar was talking on phone to Sanjay Somji. In response Shankar strips Chander's responsibilities & makes Bala (Chander's assistant) (Sumeet Nijhawan), as the new head of family security. when Chander expresses anger at this decision, he is fired. Hasan then gets Sanjay Somji kidnapped making it look like in the media that Shankar Nagre is hell bent upon taking revenge for his dead wife.
Anita's dad Mike Rajan now wants to team up with Kantilal to set up the project in Gujrat, which Anita is upset about. Anita smells a plot between Kantilal and Mike t kill Shankar, which she warns Shankar about. At the time Shankar was working on a tip from Chander to locate Somji. Shankar attacks Hasan's hideout, kills Hasan & rescues Somji. Chander re-wins Shankar's trust & is restored to Shankar's security detail.
Kantilal Vohra imports an assassin to terminate Shankar. The assassins shoots Shankar 6 times in the chest, during Shankar's meeting with Anita where they expressed their love for each other. Shankar dies in the hospital in Sarkar's arms. Anita tells Sarkar that Kantilal Vohra might be behind this attack. Sarkar gets Kanitlal abducted, who under torture reveals Kaanga's hand in Shankar's death. Sarkar orders the assassination of Kaanga, who is mercilessly murdered. The final name revealed is of Chander, who begs Sarkar for mercy, but is not spared. Sarkar informs Anita that his men have also killed her father in London. Sarkar reveals to Anita that Kaanga, Mike, Kantilal & Chander were simply pawns in the hands of Rao Saab in a grand conspiracy to secure Sanjay Somji as the new leader of Maharashtra. When Rao Saab comes to pay his last respects to Shankar, Sarkar shows him Somji's dead body & indicates the end of his political ambitions.
