Much awaited and much maligned, En Swaasa Katre is a mixed bag. K.S. Ravi, not learning from his previous outing, Mr. Romeo, succeeds in wasting celluloid like never before. I can understand why the producers considered shelving this movie. The screen play is non-existent, and the editors seem to have taken a walk, never to return. The only saving grace is A.R.Rehman's foot-tapping music and perhaps the cinematography with some interesting choice of locales and imaginative art direction captured beautifully on the screen. Logic and reasoning are abandoned for the greater cause of cinema, apparently and the viewer should suspend any disbelief before stepping into the theater.En Swasa Katre is a desi version of typical Hollywood action flick with commercial elements like Arvind Swamy (who was hot then)/Isha Koppikar(who is hot too) and music by the inimitable A.R.Rahman The movie, without doubt, tanked at box office very badly. A high-budget, destined to death movies, even before its inception ;-) .
It was pitiable that, till date, the music from this movie have never gotten the credit or awards it deserved . The movie had packed nice variety of songs and song sequences which by today's standards hold up well It had some decent cinematography and set dressings which are meant to involve some romantic and colorful moods. If there was any credits to be given to this movie other than the melodious music by AR Rahman, it has to be in this department. The movie had a potentially good story but failed badly in its execution and presentation .The dialogues and situations are unbelievably ill-conceived.
Sadly, the whole movie is carried by Arvind swami alone and the beauty of the then gorgeous Isha Koppikar who debuted with this movie in the tamil industry. Watchable if u are only into romance and music and willing to oversee the fatal flaws in logic.
