Storyline

Transfer student Eiji, is forced into playing the large drum in the school's brass band by Nanao, an outstanding musician, but obsessed with creating perfect sound. However, from the moment he picks up the drumsticks, the "beat" inside Eiji is awakened, and he soon becomes a captive of its sonic boom. Nanao too, is influenced by Eiji, particularly by his bright character and his natural kindness. Under Nanao's guidance, the brass band plays well in the local competition, but soon dissolves after Nanao comes into conflict with the band's teacher. Nanao, who had long been thinking about going to New York, pursues her dream and decides to go. Inspired by Nanao, Eiji forms his own band, as he keeps drumming and ride the music to live a life full of cheer.

Full of great Drum rhythm
13 February 2007 | by skyartSee all my reviews

I watched this movie twice on the way flied to Japan. Yes, I watched twice. I was so touch by these rhythms of drum beat. It's a so simple and straight story. After come back to USA, I order the imported CD from amazon without delay. Yes, it's so good and can't get rid of the beat from my brain. I do hope there is US version DVD, but it's just too small story so there is no way to have US version to be released. I name it as one of my top rated movie in my hundreds of DVD collection. The structure of this movie is sort of combining "school of rock" and "drum line". The story talk about student's desire thought and how they face their problem. How they stand their life for it. I understand this is no Hollywood style commercial movie but a typical Japanese style story. If people watch some more Japanese movies will understand what I mean of that. A simple story make a great effort to everyone's life.
