Storyline

From a psychiatric ward, tutor & proofreader Gaby Winters elaborately recounts an evening spent babysitting a 16 year old girl--an evening that results in the girl's disappearance. While Gaby's story is recorded to video, she tells of her urgent attempts to relocate the missing teen before her parents return home. Gaby's search is set to a tapestry of snaking subplots: the unlikely spy hunting down an envelope, the eloping girl he exploits, her doting mother, the military husband, his pious mistress, an abducted woman, and the ailing fiancé wandering around in a karate gi bent on beating a man he mostly-believes is banging his girl. Gaby's story--infused with anarchy--will climax memorably, or so she intends. Written by Anonymous

Gabrielle Winters: I lost the girl I was babysitting... technically, of course. But it doesn't really matter... I mean, fuck it, people lose their kids all the time, right?

A reasonably clever mystery / comedy hybrid that echoes Martin Scorsese's After Hours...

Flourish DVD Film Review By Ed Hulse 10/30/2006 @ Video Business A reasonably clever mystery/ comedy hybrid that echoes Martin Scorsese's After Hours, Flourish has an Alice in Wonderland vibe that keeps it amusing even when innumerable plot complications and bizarre characters threaten to send it spiraling into incoherence. Gaby's odyssey brings her in contact with an unlikely spy, an exploited fiancée, a philandering military man, his pious mistress and other oddballs. At the finish, several questions remain unanswered, but that hardly matters. This neatly turned out indie is one of those films that isn't about the destination but the journey. With a sharper script and a little more directorial discipline, this easily could have been a major mainstream movie. Though worth seeing, the absence of exploitable cast names will hinder the film's rental prospects.
