10 Horror Icons That Deserve Action Figures

On a recent episode of Killer Pov, the podcast I co-host with Fangoria’s Rebekah McKendry and Inside Horror’s Elric Kane, we tackled the topic of “Childhood Obsessions,” and that led to discussing our desire as young budding horror fans to obtain any toys we could get our hands on based upon some of our favorite genre properties. There weren’t that many horror toys when I was a kid, except for the talking Freddy doll, but as an adult, everything pretty much changed when McFarlane Toys unleashed their Movie Maniacs line back in 1998 and proved that there was in fact a huge market for these kind of collectibles. I remember distinctly hunting for the “bloody variant” Leatherface figure at all the local Kay Bee stores, much to the surprise and shock of the clerk’s face when I brought it up to the counter to buy. “We sell this here?

Exclusive: In Depth with Vincent J. Guastini on Scream of the Banshee and More!

Let’s face it… Special Makeup FX are the backbone of the horror genre. As engaging as storylines can be, as believable as acting is, and as competent as directing and cinematography are, fans pay money and put their asses in those seats or buy those DVDs and Blu-rays because they love the creatures.

Back in the 1980s FX artists were like rock stars. Names like Savini, Bottin, and Baker were spoken in revered tones. People went to see films because of who was doing the FX. As the years progressed, FX artists refined techniques, CG was introduced, new materials were brought into play, and what was once a discipline soon became an art form.

One FX artist who’s recently been helping elevate that art form to new heights is Vincent J. Guastini. His contributions to such films as Requiem for a Dream, Flags of our Fathers/Letters from Iwo Jima,

Welcome to 'happy town'

Welcome to 'happy town'
With a name like happy town, you know there is something sinister lurking beneath the surface.  ABC's new mystery/thriller/creepshow is centered in the small town of Haplin, Minnesota, or "Happy Town" as the all-too-perky real estate agent calls it.  A few years ago, a rash of kidnappings plagued the town, and, with not a shred of evidence left behind, the townspeople dubbed the culprit the Magic Man.  The show is crammed full of stars that genre fans will recognize: Lauren German (Hostel II, Dark Country), Sam Neill (In the Mouth of Madness, Jurassic Park), Amy Acker (Angel, Dollhouse), Steven Weber (The Shining TV miniseries), M.C. Gainey (Unearthed), and Frances Conroy (The Wicker Man). happy town...

Top Cow's Magdalena Converts Jenna Dewan

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Jenna Dewan and her boobs have nabbed the lead role in a motion picture adaptation of Top Cow's top heavy comic Magdalena. Dewan will star as Patience, a very attractive young woman who discovers she's the next in a line of female warriors descended from Mary Magdalene that fight the forces of evil.

I'll let the always reliable Wikipedia fill in the rest of the comic's concept:

After the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Mary Magdalene, reputed to be his wife, gave birth to a daughter, Sarah. From this child is descended the holy lineage of the Magdalena, a royal bloodline that passes great power and great honor from mother to daughter. The Magdelena serves as the warrior and protector of the Catholic Church.

The Magdalena has the ability to see into the human heart, to show people the error of their ways and
