Storyline

In the Maya civilization, a peaceful tribe is brutally attacked by warriors seeking slaves and human beings for sacrifice for their gods. Jaguar Paw hides his pregnant wife and his son in a deep hole nearby their tribe and is captured while fighting with his people. An eclipse spares his life from the sacrifice and later he has to fight to survive and save his beloved family.

For the Italian release, the film was initially given the local equivalent of the G rating, albeit with a warning in most cinemas about the content being deemed unsuitable for children. This decision was overruled, and within six days the film was officially re-rated "not under 14".

Goofs

When Jaguar Paw slides to pick up the ax, and then stands, striking the warrior, he makes a glancing blow to his head causing a wound. Blood is squirting out as if there was an artery on the side of the skull. This is not possible since there is no artery inside the human skull. A strike like this would have cracked the skull open and caused bleeding but not a squirting stream of blood.

I am Jaguar Paw. This is my forest!

I really don't get some of the comments, rating it one star because it didnt depict true mayans... There are obviously flaws in historical accuracy but who cares? It's a movie.. and it's brilliant. In another multiverse the Mayans probably did human sacrifice. The cinematography in this is outstanding, the acting.. costumes are all so good! There was a subtleness behind this genius screenplay, it didn't try to hard on the plot. One of my all time favourites of its kind!
