Gwen Stefani is preparing to rock the stage with her former rock band, No Doubt.
While Gwen graced the stage with a recent appearance at her husband Blake Shelton’s concert, she’s also reuniting with her band at a huge event.
The group will be among the highly-anticipated artists who perform at this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.
The singer shared a first-look photo from rehearsal as she took a selfie in front of a drumset featuring the band’s name and flames.
In the shot, Gwen has her hair in a ponytail. She wears a plaid shirt over black and white undershirts and dark tights.
The former Voice coach didn’t share any additional comments with the image, which she shared on her Instagram Story.

That’s all, Oscar folks!
In just 12 days, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences will crack open 23 illustrious envelopes to unveil the victors of this year’s 96th Oscars. It’s a night where predictability usually reigns supreme, but hey, there’s always room for a curveball or two.
During the past six days of intense voting, Variety has been on the scene, chatting it up with over 50 AMPAS members to get the lowdown on which movies and performances have been getting the thumbs-up on their ballots. While some answers were as predictable as Tom Sandoval’s choice of nail polish, there were definitely a few curveballs that caught us off guard.
The Oscars are like a mystical black box — AMPAS never spills the beans on who voted for what. But fear not! Armed with a pinch of speculation and a dash of insider voter knowledge, Variety can...

Don’t expect a reunion tour from No Doubt after their special performance at Coachella 2024 in April.
In a new Billboard report breaking down the festival’s successful bookings of No Doubt and Sublime reunions, a source close to No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani was cited as saying “not to expect a major No Doubt tour.” Apparently, such a tour would conflict with Stefani’s plans for the rest of 2024 to promote upcoming solo music slated for this summer.
Indeed, Stefani has since been announced as a headliner for the inaugural Minnesota Yacht Club festival (get tickets here) taking place in July and as part of the lineup for the R&b and hip-hop festival Lovers & Friends (get tickets here), which goes down in Las Vegas on March 4th. She also tops the lineup for February’s Cali Vibes Music Festival (get tickets here).

Sophie Ellis-Bextor is still making sense of how “Murder on the Dancefloor,” a poppy disco song she released in 2001, has become a viral hit thanks to its inclusion in the movie Saltburn. The track plays during the final scene of the movie in which its star, Barry Keoghan, dances nude — a visual that has inspired a trend on TikTok, helping propel the song onto Billboard’s charts.
“It actually feels really magical, and if I’m honest, I don’t think I’ve completely processed it really,” she recently told the BBC.

Ryan Gosling has two big musical moments in Barbie – an original song titled “I’m Just Ken” and a cover of Matchbox Twenty‘s hit single “Push.”
The latter soundtracks a pinnacle moment in the movie and was released as a surprise addition to the soundtrack.
If you’ve seen the movie, you might have a lot of questions about the musical number. How did director Greta Gerwig get it cleared? What did Matchbox Twenty singer Rob Thomas feel about his hit being featured? Did he like the role that it played in the movie?
Most importantly, how did Ryan feel about the song?
In a series of interviews, all of those questions were answered!

Welcome to Oscar Experts Typing, a weekly column in which Gold Derby editors and Experts Joyce Eng and Christopher Rosen discuss the Oscar race — via Slack, of course. This week, we discuss Best Supporting Actor, where four spots feel secure.
Christopher Rosen: Hello, Joyce! It’s Friday, and we’re Kenough? One week after typing about the truly unhinged race for Best Supporting Actress, we’re back to put some words on the page about Best Supporting Actor. Fortunately, this category feels a little more firmed up — with four actors heavily predicted by experts, pundits, and regular folks. It starts with Robert Downey Jr. for “Oppenheimer,” the favorite here, and with good reason. He’s a huge star whom everyone loves and he’s in the biggest movie that’s the Best Picture frontrunner and his performance is amazing. That doesn’t mean Downey will win, but as we talked...

This article contains spoilers for "Our Flag Means Death" season 2.
It's tough out there for pirates these days, especially if you're Taika Waititi's Ed Teach, aka Blackbeard, who's been on a bit of a downward spiral ever since Stede (Rhys Darby) stood him up towards the end of season 1. None of us love rejection, but Blackbeard takes things harder than most; he exiles most of Stede's crew and steals his ship, then spends the first few episodes of season 2 on a reckless streak of violence that ends in his crew doing a mutiny. They nearly kill him in the process, and as we see Blackbeard metaphorically being tied to a giant rock and getting dragged to the bottom of the ocean, it seems like this might be the end for him.
Luckily, back in Blackbeard's real life, Stede walks in and starts begging his unconscious body not to die,...

If you're not well-versed in the extended Barbie universe of animated films and TV shows, you're in luck, because the new Netflix series "Barbie: A Touch of Magic" is the perfect streaming chaser for those still riding the high of Greta Gerwig's live-action "Barbie" movie. While the Barbie brand has been equal parts loved and at the center of controversy for over half a century, Mattel has been seriously putting in the work to make sure that every child feels seen, loved, and affirmed by Barbie.
So while it may have been groundbreaking for some to hear America Ferrera's monologue about womanhood in "Barbie," these sorts of lessons have been at the core of animated Barbie (especially the Barbie Vlog series on YouTube) for quite some time. In the lead-up to Gerwig's "Barbie," the 2012 animated series "Barbie: Life in the Dreamhouse" routinely hit the top 10 on Netflix, and...

Coming off the release of her sophomore album Guts, VMA nominee Olivia Rodrigo hit the 2023 MTV Video Music Awards stage to perform two songs off the new record.
As the second performer of the night, Rodrigo opened her set with the first Guts single, “Vampire,” a track that’s nominated for video of the year, song of the year, best pop, song of the summer, best cinematography and best editing. The hit song is Rodrigo’s third single to debut on the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 1.
Surrounded by a forest scene of lush greenery and rolling fog, Rodrigo belted out the lyrics to the breakup ballad “Vampire.” As she moved on to the more upbeat second half of the song, firework explosions went off on the stage. Editor’s note: This review was originally published at the 2023 Toronto International Film Festival. Amazon Studios MGM releases the film in theaters on Friday, December 15 with expansion to follow on Friday, December 22.
In “American Fiction,” the comic and tragic go hand in hand. Each moment is layered with meaning, socially, politically, and emotionally. In Cord Jefferson’s idea-dense “American Fiction,” no one wants to publish literary professor Thelonious Ellison’s latest novel. Thelonious — or “Monk” to his friends — has delivered a modern reworking of Aeschylus’ “The Persians” (hardly bestseller material to begin with), but all the industry can see is the color of his skin. The editors compliment his prose, but want to know what this manuscript “has to do with the Black experience.” In frustration, he dashes off a parody of the thug-life trauma porn the world seems to want, submits it to his agent, and suddenly, he’s the “man of the hour.”
If that sounds like the setup for a lit-world “Bamboozled,” then you might be surprised by how even-tempered the film feels. First published in 2001 (the year after Spike Lee’s confrontational satire came out), Percival Everett’s novel “Erasure” had fangs. Jefferson files them down — not necessarily a bad thing,...

The Barbie movie was released in July 2023, but it remains one of the hottest films in the world. An unexpected hit for director Greta Gerwig, Barbie is a revisionist feminist fantasy that offers up a new take on the iconic doll that defined so many people’s childhoods. While Margot Robbie plays the doll herself, rocking the screen in a succession of incredible outfits, she’s supported by a full cast of talented stars, including Ryan Gosling as her counterpart Ken. Gosling’s primary contribution to the film is a hilarious song that has not only earned him a place as one of the year’s fan favorites, but a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart as well.

He’s just Ken, but he’s Kenough to enter the Billboard Hot 100. “I’m Just Ken,” Ryan Gosling‘s ballad for the Barbie movie, has officially entered the charts at No. 87.
“I’m Just Ken” marks Gosling’s first appearance on the Billboard charts, a milestone made all the more funny when you learn the actor has ventured into music before, in a more serious capacity (check out his indie band Dead Man’s Bones). Still, if you ask us, the song is a welcome addition to the cultural canon, the culmination of Gosling’s complete commitment to playing the anguished righthand man to everyone’s favorite doll.

Still, if you ask us, the song is a welcome addition to the cultural canon, the culmination of Gosling’s complete commitment to playing the anguished righthand man to everyone’s favorite doll.

When Greta Gerwig sent her longtime editing collaborator Nick Houy the script for “Barbie,” the first thing he texted her back was a question: “Are they going to let you do it?”
Indeed, inside the box of the “Barbie” movie is a bonkers melange of musical numbers, existential dread, slapstick visual comedy, gender politics, earnest yearning for connection, and a Snyder Cut joke that definitely feels like Warner Brothers should’ve killed it. That it exists in the form it does feels as unreal and miraculous as Barbie Land itself. But the film also has a momentum that was familiar to the challenges Gerwig and Houy have set for themselves in their previous collaborations, “Lady Bird,” and “Little Women.”
Just as “Little Women” alternates between past and present, “Barbie” manages transitions between worlds that are more or less heightened, but always at least a little, as Gerwig put it, “bananagrams.

Rob Thomas could not be more pleased with the use of Matchbox Twenty’s hit song “Push” in Barbie. In an interview with USA Today, the singer confirmed he loved the scene where Ryan Gosling’s Ken performs the song on an acoustic guitar, saying he “thought it was hilarious.”

Matchbox Twenty frontman Rob Thomas is convinced that his 1997 hit “Push” is not the butt of the joke in “Barbie” and that it’s actually a loving homage.
The song, which was criticized upon its release for lyrics that allegedly glorified domestic violence, is used at a key moment when the Kens of Barbie Land think they’ve finally won the attention of all the Barbies, amid the Kens’ pastel putsch of the realm to install their version of patriarchy. Not just Ryan Gosling’s Ken, but all of the Kens serenade their Barbies with “Push” thinking they’ve won the Barbies over — and on their terms.
But the Barbies have already been deprogrammed of their patriarchal brainwashing and are just playing along, making the Kens think they’re really interested in them. It’s one of the things that ultimately builds to the Barbies reclaiming their land while...

In "Barbie," Gloria's heartfelt monologue about the pressure for women to be perfect resonates so strongly with the Barbies that it snaps them out of the subservient spell they're under in the patriarchal Kendom. Alongside her daughter Sasha, Gloria leads a covert mission with some of the Barbies to take back Barbieland. They do this by giving Ken exactly what he wants: by stroking his ego. While one of the enlightened Barbies distracts Ken with her adoring gaze and innocent questions, the others capture the brainwashed Barbies — former writers and doctors turned into cheerleaders and maids — to re-educate them. Then, they plan to storm the pink Capitol Building and rewrite the Barbie constitution.
Tired of being "just Ken," the Kens use mansplaining as a way to overpower Barbie. In addition to chugging beers and admiring horses, these new hypermasculine Kens love to condescendingly lecture...

Even though "Barbie" may be the title of the movie, based on the iconic Mattel doll of the same name, the dude doll known as Ken has a pivotal part to play, and it's not just as Barbie's boyfriend. Ryan Gosling plays the buff, blonde beau (with looks inspired by a young Sylvester Stallone) who has a bit of an existential crisis when he realizes that Barbie doesn't want to be with him. But before that, Ken shakes up Barbieland by bringing in the worst parts of the patriarchy that he learned about in the real world. From spruced-up Hummers to mini-fridges filled with beer, the Barbie Dream House becomes Ken's Mojo Dojo Casa House, and it throws everything that was once perfect about Barbieland into complete chaos, at least for the Barbies. With artists like Dua Lipa, Sam Smith, Billie Eilish, Nicki Minaj, and Ice Spice, the Mark Ronson produced Barbie movie soundtrack is poised to be almost as iconic as the movie itself. From danceable pop hits to more melancholic tunes and ballads, the soundtrack is full of songs for a variety of Barbies and Kens.
While Aqua’s classic song “Barbie Girl” unfortunately isn’t on the soundtrack, there are plenty of other bops that make Greta Gerwig’s Barbie Land come to life. Here are all of the songs you can expect to hear on the Barbie soundtrack, including a few words on some of the big standouts:

I'm a '90s kid. I mean, I was actually a proper child in the '90s. I turned seven in the first year of the 21st century. When most people say they are '90s kids, they really mean they were born in the '80s and had their formative coming of age years in the '90s. Consequently, my relationship to the pop culture of the decade of my birth is rather odd, as those formative years for me were really the early 2000s. Micro-generations make a big difference.
Music, in particular, is a weak spot for me. I missed out on grunge, neo-soul, gangsta rap, and so much more. My popular music awareness started forming around the time of "Millennium" by the Backstreet Boys in 1999. So, I have no nostalgia for this era of music or, quite frankly, know much of it.

‘Barbie’ and ‘Oppenheimer’ Both Receive ‘A’ Grades from CinemaScore as Fans Flock to Double Features
Greta Gerwig’s “Barbie” and Christopher Nolan’s “Oppenheimer” entered their opening weekend with impossibly lofty expectations. In addition to being highly anticipated works from A-list auteurs, the two films were burdened with salvaging a disappointing summer box office after films like “Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny” and “Elemental” failed to catch on as cultural phenomena. Strong early tracking and endless “Barbenheimer” memes about seeing the wildly divergent films as a double feature turned this into the biggest movie weekend of the summer.
While the box office numbers are still rolling in, moviegoers who saw the films are walking away satisfied. CineScore has revealed that both films received “A” grades from fans after opening on Friday.
It's an A for @OppenheimerFilm!! Congratulations to all of the cast and crew members!

As if Ryan Gosling’s himbo portrayal of Ken, commitment to the bit in interviews, and emotional ballad “I’m Just Ken” weren’t enough, the actor has now given Barbie fans another gift: he’s covered Matchbox Twenty’s “Push.”
The song appears in a deluxe version of the film soundtrack called the Best Weekend Ever Edition, which also features Brandi and Catherine Carlile’s rendition of Indigo Girls’ “Close to Fine.” While that track served as a sort of travel theme song for Barbie, “Push” provides a similar soundtrack for the Kens of the world.
In the film, “Push” first appears when Gosling’s Ken offers to “play the guitar at” Barbie, a nod to men’s inexplicable desire to serenade women against their will. Soon after, all of the Kens in Barbie Land sing the song to their own Barbies at the same time. The moment signifies...

Brandi Carlile has shared a cover of Indigo Girls’ “Closer to Fine,” which appears as a bonus cut on the “Best Weekend Ever Edition” of the Barbie soundtrack alongside star Ryan Gosling’s version of Matchbox Twenty’s classic hit “Push.”
Carlile and her wife, Catherine Carlile, transform the rollicking original version of “Closer to Fine” into an acoustic ballad intertwining their beautiful vocals. Stream it below.
“Closer to Fine” appears on Indigo Girls’ self-titled second studio album, which marked their first major label release when it came out in 1989. Carlile previously performed the song with the folk duo during a June 2008 show in Tucson, Arizona — one of the many times she’s appeared on stage with the pioneering group. They also appeared on “Cannonball” from Carlile’s 2007 album, The Story. Last year, she presented Indigo Girls with the Spirit of Americana Free Speech Award at the Americana Music Honors & Awards.

Following the news of their forthcoming mini album Fml receiving over 4M pre-orders, K-pop stage-breakers Seventeen unveiled a trailer for the mini album ahead of its arrival at 5 Am Et/6 Pm Kst on April 24. Reminiscent of a trailer for a feature film, the video opens as the voice-over narration asks, “How do you define the world that surrounds you?”
The short clip captures members of Seventeen at the center of disorder, placed in the midst of broken cars, messy rooms, dull offices, packed buses, and groups of menacing chasers. Rather than being set back by distress, however, the members soon start to get on their feet and take off, as the narration in the background suggests to them, “Fight for your life.”
The K-pop supergroup also dropped a series of concept photos this week, while the tracklist released earlier this month revealed that there will be 6 tracks to the mini album.

The jokes will extend well past April 1st on HBO and HBO Max.
“Barry” returns for its fourth and final season. After the shocking Season 3 finale which saw Barry (Billy Hader) getting arrested and Cousineau (Henry Winkler) being hailed as a hero, there will be plenty of consequences for both. The dark comedy premieres on April 16 with two episodes.
“A Black Lady Sketch Show” will also bring plenty of laughs when it returns for its fourth season. The sketch comedy series premieres April 14.
On the drama side, the limited series “Love and Death” premieres on April 27. It’s based on the true story of Candy (Elizabeth Olsen) and Pat Montgomery (Patrick Fugit) and Betty (Lily Rabe) and Allan Gore (Jesse Plemons) – two churchgoing couples enjoying their small-town Texas life… until an extramarital affair leads somebody to pick up an axe.

With its list of new releases for April 2023, HBO Max is premiering the final episodes of two major shows.
First up is the continuation of Titans season 4 on April 13. Returning after a four month hiatus, these next six episodes will be the last go around for HBO Max’s gritty live-action DC series. Arriving three days later on HBO proper is the fourth and final season of Barry. Bill Hader and the rest of the Barry team wrote themselves into a fascinating corner with the conclusion of season 3. And judging by the first teasers for season 4, this final batch of episodes will indeed catch up with our favorite actor/hitman in prison.
Other TV shows of note this month include the Pete Davidson-starring animated series Fired on Mars on April 20 (light ’em up) the the Elizabeth Olsen-starring true crime story Love & Death on April 27.

In the final season of HBO Max’s “Barry,” premiering on April 16, Barry’s arrest for the murder of Cousineau’s girlfriend leads to a shocking conclusion. Vernon, a member of the K-pop powerhouse act Seventeen, released his first solo mixtape “Black Eye” today. A pop punk song delivered in a tone of raw openness to the backdrop of a rhythmic and airy instrumental, “Black Eye” tells the story of an adolescent trying to cope with the constantly changing world around him. The accompanying music video visually amplifies the sense of loneliness, rebelliousness and self-doubt one experiences in the course of growth, reminiscent of footage captured with a hand-held camcorder.
Vernon is the third member of the 13-piece act to release a mixtape as a part of their ‘The Thirteen Tapes’ series, following Hoshi’s “Spider” in April 2021 and Woozi’s “Ruby” in January 2022.
While being a member of Seventeen’s Hip-hop unit, Vernon also continues to venture outside of the group, shedding light to his flair as a solo artist. He collaborated with Charli Xcx for...

An image was posted on Seventeen’s official social media channels on December 16, revealing the release date and the title of the mixtape. Vernon is the third member of the 13-piece act to release a mixtape, following Hoshi’s “Spider” in April 2021 and Woozi’s “Ruby” in January 2022.
