Having put his practice before everything else, Richard Anstruther, an army physician, has somewhat neglected his wife, who, because of this, drifts into a flirtation with Larry Gordon, one of Anstruther's brother officers. Unwilling to expose his wife to the climatic conditions of South Africa, whence he has been ordered, Anstruther charges Gordon to watch over and protect her while he is away. This Gordon says he will do, but nevertheless, takes every opportunity to poison Eleanor's mind against her husband. Sometime after reaching Africa, Anstruther sends for his wife, who is only too glad to come. By curious coincidence, she and Gordon, who has also been ordered down, take the same boat, Gordon, taking full advantage of his opportunity, endeavors to make Eleanor more and more suspicious of her husband. At the Guards' Ball, affairs come to a climax when Austruther sees his wife in Gordon's arms, Anstruther, on his way to the smoking room in the barracks, is told of the fresh fever ...
