    Confusing early version of novel

I thought the title rang a bell with the name Manon, with the film set in pre revolutionary France. Then I remembered seeing a late silent film version of this with John Barrymore & Dolores Costello in the leading roles, which wasn't bad. It was a good job I had seen that, because at least it gave me an idea of the plot, which I certainly wouldn't have got very far with by just viewing this version, as had no title cards, & presumed the audience must have all read the novel it is named after.

This is a shame as obviously money had been spent on this, with good acting, & having a quality director. Only worth watching for histroical purposes, & if you want a version of the story, the silent one When a Man Loves in 1927 is full of action & good, or there are later sound ones which I expect tell a good story.
