John Mellencamp Honors Republic Records at Grammy Hall of Fame Gala
Image
The Recording Academy and Grammy Museum held the second-ever Grammy Hall of Fame Gala at the Beverly Hilton Friday night, where iconic recordings including Cat Stevens’ Tea for the Tillerman, Santana’s Supernatural and Jay-Z’s Reasonable Doubt and Gloria Estefan and Miami Sound Machine’s “Conga” were all officially inducted, while John Mellencamp, John Batiste, Conan Gray and Emmylou Harris were among the night’s performers.

Mellencamp and Gray performed as a tribute to Republic Records, which was selected as this year‘s label honoree for the event.

“They told me not to say anything about politics, so I won’t say anything about how terribly the country’s being run,” Mellencamp quipped to cheers and applause as he took the stage toward the end of the evening, before performing his 1985 song “Small Town.”

Mellencamp also performed “Longest Days” before finishing with his classic “Jack and Diane,” teasing the...

4 Eric Kripke shows to watch (and 2 to skip)
Image
When it comes to showrunners, Eric Kripke is one of the most consistent. You know what to expect, and if you don’t, then you haven’t seen enough of his content. He’s a lover of urban myths, history, and downright absurdity, and he’s also a man who likes to create something timely and timeless all at the same time.

The majority of people will know Kripke for his CW series Supernatural, but he has worked on many other shows and movies before that. Since his Supernatural days, he’s become a creator to watch out for, but that doesn’t mean everything he’s made is something you need to watch right now. Although I’ll admit that it was hard to put a show to skip on this list.

Supernatural’s Most Glaring Flaw Is Bobby’s House and Dean’s Car Defied Logic for 15 Seasons
Image
Supernatural has always been a top choice when you want to watch something that has both heart and horror. Whether it’s Sam and Dean’s brotherly shenanigans, insane monsters, or jaw-dropping cameos (remember when Scooby Doo and gang showed up?), the show has maintained its fanbase throughout the decades.

And I know, finding logic in a show that’s all about the supernatural – quite literally – might seem like nitpicking. However, if we are talking about the flaws of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki-starrer, let’s start with how Bobby Singer’s house was always around the corner and how Dean’s Impala stood strong despite the miles on it.

The mystery of Supernatural and Bobby’s home Sam and Dean at Bobby’s house in Supernatural (2005-2020) | Credits: The CW

The Worst Season of Supernatural: Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki Couldn’t Save Season 12 from Its Awful Storyline
Image
Fifteen seasons. Two networks. One apocalypse. And the ever-evolving mystery of Jared Padalecki’s hair. Supernatural finally hung up its salt and holy water in November 2020 after 327 monster-hunting, demon-slaying, emotionally devastating episodes. It survived The WB turning into The CW, a revolving door of showrunners after Kripke stepped down post-Season 5, and even a real-world pandemic.

It was phenomenal, but not every season hit the mark. Season 12 was a bit of a cursed object, but through angels, leviathans, time travel, and even Scooby-Doo, the Winchester boys kept things entertaining. The show could make the viewers laugh, cry, and occasionally sleep with the lights on. Even with its ups and downs, Supernatural stuck around not just because of its fanbase, but because it never lost its charm or its knack for not taking itself too seriously.

What went down in Supernatural season 12?

Now that everything great has been acknowledged about Supernatural, it...

“Had I known he was going to last that long…”: Supernatural Producer on the Character He Inspired in the Show
Image
Robert Singer, a producer on Supernatural, was under the impression that the character named after him was not going to stick around for long. However, the reality was far from that, given that Singer grew to regret giving him his name a little.

Bobby Singer is one of the more beloved characters in Supernatural. It turns out that the producer would have protested a little more if he had known that his namesake was going to stick around for a while in the show.

It seems that Robert Singer might have been in on the joke when he gave Bobby Singer his name, but he was definitely not prepared for how long the character was going to last on the show. Regarding that, he said:

Before Supernatural, Jensen Ackles Was in Almost 500 Episodes of One of the Most Popular Soap Operas on the Planet
Image
Jensen Ackles is best known for his stint as Dean Winchester in the globally popular series Supernatural. Ackles appeared in all fifteen seasons of the show and etched his name into modern pop culture as the series ended up with more than three hundred episodes, a number many television stars will struggle to replicate.

Despite the longevity of his Supernatural role, it isn’t by far the most number of episodes the actor has appeared in a single show. Instead, that honor goes to one of the most popular daytime soap operas, which gave Ackles his start in Hollywood. Here is everything you need to know about Ackles’ nearly 500 episode-long stint on a popular soap opera.

“Do you have bigger cups?”: 15 Years Later, I Still Can’t Believe Supernatural Kept Jared Padalecki’s Most Unscripted Moment in the Show’s Funniest Episode
Image
Supernatural ran for fifteen seasons, and a large part of its lasting appeal centered on the performances of Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki. The series frequently allowed the actors to improve, resulting in some of the best unscripted moments. However, one improv moment from Padalecki stands out even after fifteen years.

In the show’s sixth season, an episode saw the Winchester brothers encounter fairies. The episode features some of the most hilarious interactions between the brothers, with Padalecki ad-libbing one hilarious line that proves why fans still aren’t over the episode’s humor. Here is why I can’t believe Jared Padalecki improved this funny Supernatural line.

Jensen Ackles and Jared Padalecki played brothers Dean and Sam Winchester in all fifteen seasons of Supernatural. The series frequently incorporated humor to balance its horror aesthetic, greatly contributing to its longevity and popularity.

“I Wanted To Go in With Him as My Teammate”: Lauren Cohan on Producing ‘The Walking Dead: Dead City’ With Jeffrey Dean Morgan [Exclusive]
Image
On screen, Lauren Cohan and Jeffrey Dean Morgan’s characters, Maggie and Negan, have been at each other’s throats for years. That’s because, in Season 7 of The Walking Dead, the latter slaughtered the former’s husband with a barbed wire-covered baseball bat while she sat by helplessly. To put it lightly, Maggie’s hatred towards Negan is totally understandable. In the first season of the pair’s spin-off series, The Walking Dead: Dead City, they were forced to work together and got to know each other on a deeper level, resulting in the blossoming of a friendship.

In real life, Cohan and Morgan went into the offshoot supporting one another and fully having each other’s backs. During a recent installment of Collider’s Ladies Night, Perri Nemiroff chatted with Cohan about her time as not only the star of the AMC series, but also how she jumped...

“It’s So F***ing Hard To Get Their Schedules”: ‘Tracker’ Producer Reveals If Jensen Ackles and Melissa Roxburgh Will Ever Return
Image
There’s no doubt that a cameo or guest appearance from a beloved actor can help drive up viewership numbers and maybe even add some new fans. Although the Justin Hartley-led CBS procedural, Tracker, certainly wasn’t aching for extra eyes, it didn’t hurt when Jensen Ackles (Supernatural) and Melissa Roxburgh (The Hunting Party) were introduced to the story as the siblings of Hartley’s Colter Shaw. With the title recently wrapping its second season, all eyes are on what’s to come from Season 3. While there are plenty of directions that the next installment could move in, many fans are wondering if or when a Shaw family reunion will come into play.

Luckily, executive producer Elwood Reid shed some light on the potential meet-up during a chat with TV Insider. At this point, it sounds like both Ackles and Roxburgh are game to return to the drama,...

‘The Hunting Party’s Fate Has Been Decided Following the Season 1 Finale
Image
The Hunting Party concluded its final season at the end of April, and NBC has finally decided on the future of the series. The network has ruled that The Hunting Party, which is streaming on Peacock, has been renewed and will receive a second season. The Hunting Party premiered alongside other shows such as original dramas Suits: LA and Grosse Pointe Garden Society, and it was the strongest performer of the bunch, which was enough to earn it another season. The Hunting Party debuted with a shocking 0% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, and it finished its first season with an 18% but an 81% rating from audiences on Rotten Tomatoes. After receiving only 10 episodes in Season 1, The Hunting Party Season 2 will move to an 18-22-episode season, and it's expected to be released later this year or early 2026.

Melissa Roxburgh stars in the lead role of Rebecca Henderson in The Hunting Party.

“I’ll beat you like a rented mule”: The Most Wasted Character in Yellowstone Had the Most Macho Scene in the Taylor Sheridan Universe
Image
A primary reason behind Yellowstone‘s immense success was its memorable characters. Besides the leading names, some minor characters have also left an indelible mark on the fans’ minds. Steven Williams’ Cowboy was such a character who had a very brief role in Season 2 but delivered some of the most savage Yellowstone moments.

Taylor Sheridan’s Western TV hit featured a complex web of characters and their family trees. It is tough to keep a check on the number of people driving the story. However, Cowboy was such a character who, even after his brief role, could steal the spotlight.

‘The Boys’ Composers Talk Pushing The Envelope For An Envelope-Pushing Show – Sound & Screen TV
Image
The composers on The Boys are apparently going to have to wait a long time, if at all, for a note or two from creator Eric Kripke on how to do better.

After performing spirited pieces from the Prime Video superhero drama at Deadline’s Sound & Screen: Television event, composers Christopher Lennertz and Matt Bowen were asked if they’ve ever been scolded for going too far with their music.

“I’ve never gotten a note saying I’ve gone too far. If anything, it’s I can go farther,” Lennertz said. “Eric usually says make me give you a note, and I never seem to get that if I tried.”

Lennertz reminisced about when The Boys first went into production and how he formed the “band” that would create the soundtrack for the superhero show. With Bowen as his first member, the duo...

“It Was Such a Big Responsibility”: Lauren Cohan on Her "Life-Changing" ‘Supernatural’ Experience [Exclusive]
Image
The bonds of Supernatural run deep. Like the ongoing procedural, Law & Order, the 15-season drama was a stopping point for many acclaimed actors on their rise to the top. For Adrianne Palicki, it was a speedy but recurring guest appearance just before she skyrocketed to fame in Friday Night Lights, while Sterling K. Brown got his hands dirty with the Winchester brothers before Army Wives, which led him on the path towards This Is Us. Double-dipping into the Supernatural universe, not only did Lauren Cohan enjoy a guest-starring role as a complex villain, but she went on to star with fellow Supernatural alum, Jeffrey Dean Morgan in The Walking Dead and its hit spin-off, The Walking Dead: Dead City, the latter of which having just debuted its second season.

The behind-the-scenes world of Supernatural has a lore of its own, with plenty of fans waiting for further updates about the reunion brewing between its creator,...

More info on the Supernatural reunion coming in The Boys season 5
Image
The fifth and final season of The Boys is on the way. We'll see the return of main characters like Homelander and Billy Butcher, but also side characters like Soldier Boy, Homelander's father (basically) and the "original" superhero, played by Supernatural alum Jensen Ackles. Solder Boy already featured in the third season but was put on ice after that. Not for long.

The Boys was created by Eric Kripke, who also worked on Supernatural, which explains why he might have had Ackles on tap for the role. For season 5, he's bringing back a couple other Supernatural alums: Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins. Together, those three comprised the main trio of the show, at least in its later years, with Ackles and Padalecki playing demon-hunting brothers Dean and Sam Winchester and Collins playing the angel Castiel.

We've known that for a minute. Speaking recently to TV Insider, Kripke revealed some new details.

15 Best TV Shows Like Supernatural
Image
When we first met Sam and Dean Winchester on "Supernatural," they were just a pair of estranged brothers with a whole host of daddy issues attempting to track down their missing father (Jeffrey Dean Morgan). They -- and we -- never could have imagined the journey that the Winchesters would go on over the course of the show's astonishing 15 seasons. From their humble origins as hunters to becoming pawns in a larger battle between God and the Devil, the best "Supernatural" episodes saw these two boys put through the gamut.

With such a long series run, "Supernatural" was able to embrace every facet of the genre, including goofier and increasingly meta storylines right around the show's 10th season. "Supernatural" was beloved by its fans, as evinced by thousands of pages of fan fiction produced and the enthusiastic response to its stars' appearances at conventions. If you're still mourning its loss,...

No Supernatural Fan Would Mind Season 16 Focusing on Dean’s Daughter Taking Over the Winchester Legacy
Image
Supernatural has been a pretty bizarre show from time to time, bringing about a slew of twists that were unlike anything that was on television at the time. One of these times was when Dean Winchester had a daughter, as a consequence of one of his many one-night stands. While not the first time that the character has dabbled in possible fatherhood, the show’s seventh season did give Dean a child, one who tried to kill him.

Dean’s only confirmed daughter, Emma, was the result of Dean’s union with the Amazon, Lydia, and served as an antagonist for one episode in the seventh season of Supernatural. While the character did end up dying, it’s not like people have not come back from the dead in the show, which makes her a great candidate to continue the Winchester legacy.

Dean has at least two candidates who could...

The Next Great Horror Cult Hit Arrived When No One Was Looking
Image
A few years back, as streamers purged their libraries of films that "weren't performing well" for tax write-offs, I lamented a possible future without cult films. My love of cinema was forged in the fires of VHS tapes found at my local Mom & Pop video store, bizarre movies recommended to me by the teenager behind the rental counter, and box office flops that found their audiences when they could be consumed from the safety of a living room couch. I hypothesized that cult films will never die, and that "as long as people are making weird, subversive, and provocative films that were never meant to appeal to four-quadrant audiences, there will be those dedicating their time to finding them and making sure like-minded folks can enjoy them, even if it means putting the 'underground' back into underground cinema."

And if the newly minted cult following of director Zelda Williams and...

The Boys Creator Confirms Fans' Hopes About Season 5's Major Supernatural Reunion
Image
The Boys Season 5 will up its game when it comes to Supernatural actors. Both shows come from creator Eric Kripke, and it would finally lead to a major reunion.

Throughout its first four seasons, several actors from Supernatural made their way over to The Boys, whether as cameos, guest stars, or recurring characters. In Season 3, Jensen Ackles joined the series as the villainous Soldier Boy. With The Boys confirmed to end with the upcoming Season 5, Kripke confirmed to TV Insider that the final season will come with a major Supernatural reunion.

There have been talks about Padalecki to make an appearance since last year, but Jensen Ackles officially confirmed that Season 5 would feature not only his on-screen brother from Supernatural but fan-favorite Misha Collins, too, who played Castiel in the long-running fantasy horror series. They made the announcement in a viral post in late February.

“Dude you had a girl in you”: 5 Years After ‘Supernatural,’ Eric Kripke’s Show Is Getting Skewered Over Problematic Representation of S*xual Assault
Image
Eric Kripke seems to have a recurring problem when it comes to handling assaults on men. Recently, the director was in some hot water for depicting a particularly raunchy scene with Hughie Campbell in The Boys (played by Jack Quaid), which was not entirely consensual.

This seems to have been a problem in Kripke’s writing, as similar situations seemed to have cropped up at least once every season of Supernatural, where Sam and Dean faced similar situations at the hands of the women in their lives, only for it to be laughed off as the episodes closed.

'[Sam] and Ruby Smoothed Things Over': Supernatural's Jared Padalecki Celebrates Sam Winchester's Birthday With Sweet Family Photo

Supernatural star Jared Padalecki has always spoken about the fantasy horror series with enthusiasm and acknowledged the impact the long-running series has on his life and career. Similar to previous years, the actor also paid his character, Sam Winchester, a tribute on his birthday.

Jared Padalecki was 23 years old when Season 1 premiered in 2005 and was 38 when the final season aired in 2020. Similar to one of the most iconic Supernatural quotes, the show did end up being a family business, not just because the cast and crew evolved together, but because many found their significant others on the show, including Padalecki. Jensen Ackles is best known for playing Dean Winchester in Supernatural and was most recently seen as Soldier Boy in The Boys. While these are great roles for the star, his breakthrough came with the soap opera Days of Our Lives. The longest-running soap opera saw Ackles play the first adult iteration of Eric Brady, the son of Roman and Marlena Brady.

Ackles was in the show for three years and was extremely popular as a heartthrob. Before him, the character was played by multiple child actors. Twelve years after he left the show, Greg Vaughan was cast in the role in 2012, with some tough shoes to fill. However, the former model revealed that Ackles gave his blessing to Vaughan.

Stephen King is one of the most prolific authors, and many of his works have been adapted into films and television shows. The horror author has been very vocal about his thoughts on his adaptations, but one of them even got a letter of thanks for changing one of the endings.

In a new appearance on Steve Kmetko's podcast Still Here Hollywood, lead actress Dee Wallace detailed King's reaction to the film changing the ending, per Entertainment Weekly.

Around the 18:15 mark, Wallace opened up about Cujo. "Cujo is my favorite movie of mine," the actress revealed. "The movie is very different from the book. In the movie,...

Eric Kripke: Supernatural Only Got Greenlit Because of Another “Piece of crap’ Show I Refused To Abandon
Image
Supernatural was a show that became one of the most important flagship IPs of The CW. However, the show was greenlit because another show failed to be the pop culture phenomenon that Supernatural ended up being. Eric Kripke adapted a version of Tarzan that was more flash in the pan than anything else.

Eric Kripke revealed that the entire reason he got to sail as the captain of the Supernatural ship was that he decided to sink with another show that he had not been keen on making as long as the company wanted it to last. However, seeing the writing on the wall, the show was canceled before the ordered episode quota was reached, with Kripke being approached for new ideas.

The ‘Supernatural’ Cast Jumps in Dean’s Impala Ahead of Their Reunion in ‘The Boys’ Season 5
Image
It was announced earlier this year that The Boys Season 5 would feature a Supernatural reunion, with Jared Padalecki and Misha Collins joining Jensen Ackles in the cast of the final season. The team has since shared several behind-the-scenes looks at the highly anticipated reunion coming in the next season of The Boys, which has also been in production for months. Collins has shared another photo of the group on his personal Instagram, except this time, they’re not on The Boys Season 5 set; they’re back in Dean Winchester’s legendary 1967 Chevy Impala. Winchester is portrayed by Jensen Ackles in the series, and his brother, Sam Winchester, is played by Padalecki. Collins portrays Castiel Lucifer in the series, and Ruth Connell, who also features in the photos, plays Rowena MacLeod.

It’s unclear at this time what roles Collins and Padalecki will play in The Boys Season 5, but Ackles has...

Eric Kripke’s Comic Book Series About a Superhero Facing Mid-Life Crisis Screams a Jensen Ackles TV Show
Image
Eric Kripke has already cast Jensen Ackles in one indie superhero comic adaptation. What’s another, that too penned by Kripke himself? Jacked is a comic book from the Supernatural creator that, at its core, looks at a superhero having a midlife crisis. Ackles has already managed to wow fans and audiences as Soldier Boy in The Boys, but Jacked also seems something that is right up his alley.

Indie superhero comics have become a cornerstone in mainstream film and television, thanks to IPs like The Boys, Invincible, and The Umbrella Academy. With renewed interest in capitalizing on these non-Marvel and DC projects, some interesting projects might get the time to shine in the mainstream.

One can see some shades of Jacked in The Boys Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy in The Boys season 3 || Credit: Prime Video

Eric Kripke wanted to tell a story with Jacked that could very easily be echoed in The Boys.

“You need to teach me that trick”: Supernatural’s Funniest Moment Is One Scene Where Jared Padalecki Finally Accepts Dean is a Genius
Image
Supernatural‘s two protagonists, Dean and Sam Winchester, are widely remembered by fans for some key personality traits that were associated with them. However, there were multiple episodes where the characters actually broke the mold, revealing hidden layers of their characterizations, which were eye-openers for even the characters themselves.

One such incident was when Sam Winchester, who is usually considered the nerdier of the two, realized that Dean was actually a little more skilled than he let on when it came to things like computers and other geeky things. Sam’s surprise even prompted him to ask Dean to teach him the skill someday.
