Insights: A Peek At Latin America’s Video Potential

Panama is a tiny slip of land with a surprisingly giant place in the natural, commercial, and human history of the Western Hemisphere. Now, it hopes to enlarge its influence in film and TV, addressing its own complicated history with notable projects while spotlighting the best of a Spanish-language industry that reaches three continents.

I was in Panama City recently for the Panama International Film Festival, held a few miles from what for 85 years was fortified U.S. territory, the Canal Zone. The festival featured Oscar-winning Best Foreign-Language Film A Fantastic Woman and Abner Benaim’s loving documentary about Panamanian actor and musician Ruben Blades.

Other films – further displaying the diversity of projects – included Devil’s Freedom, Everardo Gonzalez’ bleak and chilling documentary about Mexico’s murderous kidnapping culture, and the sweet lesbian relationship comedy, Anchor and Hope, from Barcelona-based Carlos Marques-Marcet.

Perhaps most haunting was Diciembres, Enrique Castro Rios’ fictional take on the 1989 U.

Stephen Amell announces Colin Donnell’s Arrow return

Following on from the news that Caity Lotz’s Sara Lance / White Canary is set to make a return to Arrow for its season six finale, actor Stephen Amell has revealed that we’ll also be seeing another familiar face in Colin Donnell, who’ll presumably be making an appearance in flashback form as Tommy Merlyn.

21 episodes into Season 6 and I still haven’t shot a flashback. So this picture… this picture feels really good! pic.twitter.com/UCx3cQ7q88

— Stephen Amell (@StephenAmell) March 29, 2018

Donnell portrayed Tommy in the first season of Arrow, but was killed in the season finale as he attempted to rescue Laurel from a collapsing building during the Undertaking. He has since returned to the show for several flashback/dream appearances, the last of which was in season five during Arrow’s 100th episode ‘Invasion!’.

Arrow Welcomes Back Caity Lotz for Season Finale — Get Speculating!
It appears that Arrow will close out Season 6 with a return visit from Sara Lance.

Legends of Tomorrow star Caity Lotz is set to bring Sara back over to present-day Star City in time for Arrow’s season ender, airing Thursday, May 17. Collider was first to report on the encore, after which Lotz herself tweeted about it. (I still get the vapors from that workout scene.)

Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon Collector’s Edition Blu-ray Clips & Trailer

Shining a satirical ray of light on the horror genre is nothing new, as a number of films (both indie and mainstream) have done this for a few decades now, but only one (that I know of), Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon, states that in its own cinematic world, Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, and Freddy Krueger actually existed. Don't believe me? Check out some Blu-ray clips from Scream Factory's Collector's Edition of Scott Glosserman's cult movie before it hits shelves on March 27th.

Epic Trailer for Albert Pyun's Indie Space Opera Interstellar Civil War

Epic space battles, sandy wastelands, mysterious magic... I'm not sure exactly what's going on in Interstellar: Civil War, the new space opera from Albert Pyun, but there's ambition to spare in the first real trailer from the movie.

Albert Pyun is mostly known for his post-apocalyptic B-movies including Cyborg, Nemesis, Knights and others, but the director has done quite a variety of films over the years, even, pioneering the one-shot feature with dashcam alien invasion film Invasion.

Synopsis:

Blumhouse Picks Up New Sci-Fi/Horror Flick Invasion From Leprechaun Writer

Even if some of their films haven’t been your cup of tea, none of us can deny the force in the industry that Blumhouse Productions has become. In the past decade or so, they’ve enthralled audiences with new franchises such as Paranormal Activity, Insidious, Ouija, The Purge and, my personal favorite, Sinister, to name but a few.

But now, they’re aiming to find new ways of keeping us awake at night, this time via Invasion, a sci-fi horror flick that involves a home invasion that happens during an alien invasion. Sounds cool, right? The company snagged the rights to the spec script this week, and it comes to us from Into the Storm‘s John Swetnam and Leprechaun: OriginsHarris Wilkinson.

Plot details are still scarce, and understandably so, but Deadline says that the film includes themes like immigration and features a strong female lead. It’s far too early for casting,

Colton Haynes Teases Upcoming Arrow Appearance With New Video

Arrow has a lot to prove with its sixth season. At one point, it was the hottest superhero show on television, but now it’s got Supergirl, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, The Gifted and Marvel Studios’ various Defenders projects to contend with, among others. Perhaps that’s why they’re bringing back fan favorite character Roy Harper, who hasn’t been seen in the series since 2016’s ‘Invasion!’ event.

To mark his return to the Arrowverse, actor Colton Haynes posted a short video of himself on set (which you can check out at ComicBook.com), in which he’s apparently stolen Stephen Amell’s coat while he uses his Airstream trailer. Just judging from this clip, it certainly looks like a very cosy and stylish jacket – so I can see why he swiped it.

From what we understand, Haynes is set to make quite the return to the hit show,

Berlinale 2018: Panorama Adds Idris Elba’s ‘Yardie,’ Pedro Almodovar-Produced ‘The Silence of Others’
The 2018 Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama section has completed its lineup with the addition of films including “Yardie,” Idris Elba’s directorial debut; “The Silence of Others,” a documentary produced by Pedro Almodóvar; and “Lemonade,” produced by Cristian Mungiu.

Rolling off its world premiere at Sundance, “Yardie” is an adaptation of Victor Headley’s British cult novel about a young Jamaican who drifts into the drug-dealing underworld of 1980s London. The movie is being represented in international markets by Studiocanal.

Directed by Almudena Carracedo and Robert Bahar, “The Silence of Others” portrays survivors of crimes of Spain’s 40-year Fascist dictatorship, who seek justice and attempt to prosecute perpetrators. The documentary feature, which was filmed over four years and is produced by Almodovar, follows survivors and human rights lawyer on a journey to build an international lawsuit. “The Silence of Others” also explores how divided Spanish society remains over the Franco era, even after nearly

Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars – Would You Like To Know More?

  • HeyUGuys
Author: Dave Roper

This month Starship Troopers: Traitor of Mars gets its home entertainment release with Casper Van Dien and Dina Meyer returning from Paul Verhoeven’s original to add their voices to the latest entry in the series. The release of this new animated movie marked the twentieth anniversary of the original film, and, more than any other entry in the series, aims to recapture the magic and mayhem of Verhoeven’s 1997 classic.

Things have moved on a great deal since the days of Rico’s Roughnecks and Neil Patrick Harris’s wonderful military uber-scientist. The war with the bugs is still ongoing, and bloodier than ever. Each of the movie sequels has broken off from the main events of the first film and taken a more intimate look at the ravages of constant war. Göteborg Film Festival Unveils Lineup of 41st Edition

Göteborg Film Festival Unveils Lineup of 41st Edition
The 41st edition of the Göteborg Film Festival, Scandinavia’s biggest film fest, is set to kick off with Gabriela Pichler’s “Amateurs,” which is also one of the nine Nordic films competing for a Dragon Award.

Written by Pichler and author Jonas Hassen Khemiri (“Invasion!”), “Amateurs” is set in the small municipality of Lafors, which hopes to solve its economic drought by attracting a German discount supermarket. In order to bolster Lafors’ appeal, local teenagers are asked to produce films about their hometown, but the films don’t turn out as expected. The project gets called off, but two young girls decide to continue working on their documentary anyway.

Goteborg’s artistic director, Jonas Holmberg, told Variety that “‘Amateurs’ delivers a powerful image of contemporary society and pays homage to utopian films with its political and humanistic undertones.”

“Amateurs” marks Pichler’s follow-up to her daring feature debut, “Eat Sleep Die,” which won the

  • DailyDead
Last week, I gave you guys a few lists from Amazon and Netflix in regards to what they have to offer via their streaming services this fall. As a newbie to Hulu, I only discovered over the weekend that they, too, beyond just being an amazing resource for television programming, offer up a killer selection of genre movies that are free to stream with a standard Hulu membership.

Here’s a look at an assortment of 31 films from Hulu that I think would be great movies to stream this October. I tried to give you guys a wide variety, too, hitting various sub-genres, so hopefully there’s a little bit of something for everyone in this list.

The Faculty

As far as high school horror films go, The Faculty has remained one of my very favorites for years now. Essentially, it’s Robert Rodriguez riffing on The X-Files, and who can resist that?
