Marc Alan Fishman: A Tale of Two Trailers

  • Comicmix
This week, the gods of the interwebs granted us a look at two dichotomous trailers for a pair of blockbuster comic book films soon to be hitting the mega-multi-plexes. Spider-Man: Homecoming and Justice League gave us somewhere around four-minutes total of titillating three-dimensional text, brief respites of prose, and the best action snippets CG could render. But beyond those stark generalities comes two massive worlds apart.

This should come as no surprise to any of us. Spider-Man is packed with wit, charm, and street-level action amidst the hints at bigger set pieces. Justice League is a dark and sordid affair – not without its own charm and wit, but punctuated with the Synder-trademarked sepia-hued gravitas and angst. At this point, would it be enough to say I was ear-to-ear smiles at one trailer… and terribly nervous about the other?

Two guesses which is which. Then again, if I give you two

Blu-ray Review – Finding Dory (2016)

Finding Dory, 2016.

Directed by Andrew Stanton and Angus MacLane.

Featuring the voice talents of Ellen DeGeneres, Albert Brooks, Ed O’Neill, Kaitlin Olsen, Ty Burrell, Hayden Rolence, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, Idris Elba, Dominic West, Bob Peterson, Kate McKinnon, Sloane Murray, Bill Hader, Sigourney Weaver, Brad Garrett, Allison Janney, Vicki Lewis, Austin Pendleton, Stephen Root, and Willem Dafoe.

Synopsis:

Pixar continues its string of great animated movies with Finding Dory, which successfully continues the Finding Nemo story in a way that doesn’t feel like a cash grab. This set, which includes two Blu-rays and a DVD, has a nice smattering of bonus features, although a solid making-of documentary is conspicuously missing.

I had a couple young children when Finding Nemo came out, so the film hit me between the eyes as a parent (and still does, since my wife and I had another child a few years later). Its

Ingmar Bergman's Sixty-Four Minutes With Rebecka: intriguing, sexy and intense

The newly discovered screenplay suggests the then 51-year-old film-maker reacting to the sexual liberation of the 1960s in characteristic fashion

Related: Previously unknown Ingmar Bergman script to be filmed by former antagonist

Ingmar Bergman’s work was often erotic, even, or especially, when sex was not the ostensible subject matter. There is a stark sensuality and fascination in some of the bleakest situations; an eros to go with the thanatos. But the recently discovered screenplay Sixty-Four Minutes With Rebecka – which Bergman evidently intended to retitle The White Wall and make as an English-language movie, forming his part of a tripartite collaboration with Federico Fellini and Akira Kurosawa – really is notably sexy, even if the sexiness is coloured by his distinctive anxiety, self-inspection, self-reproach, and intimate marital anguish. For Bergman, like Socrates, the unexamined sexual life was not worth living.

A previously unknown script by Swedish director Ingmar Bergman, intended to be part of a collaboration with Federico Fellini and Akira Kurosawa, is to be turned into a film to mark the 100th anniversary of his birth.

Sixty-Four Minutes With Rebecka, written in 1969, is about a teacher of deaf children who falls pregnant. The film follows her over the course of a few days, during which she gets into a car accident, visits a sex club and goes to dress fittings.

43 Wtf Moments From WWE Raw (Jan 4)

WWE.com

The first WWE Raw of 2016 looked set to be a bumper edition.

First of all, we were set for another few hours of Vince McMahon. Who doesn’t want that, right?

The Chairman of the Board returned last week to call out Roman Reigns, but ended up getting himself arrested after putting his hands on an officer. Then we saw some terrible acting from Stephanie McMahon that I haven’t yet recovered from, before the Vin man secured his bail from jail.

He returned to the arena at the end of the night to announce that Sheamus would be challenging for Reigns’ WWE World Heavyweight Championship on this week’s episode – with McMahon himself stepping in as guest referee.

I’m praying he turns up in sleeveless Attitude Era referee McMahon used to…

On top of that we had the threat of another United States Championship match between

The X Factor 2015: week four, as it happened

It was Love and Heartbreak week. Two acts were eliminated, and there were enough recaps to make the whole thing seem like a giant waste of everyone’s time. Stuart Heritage liveblogged.

8.57pm GMT

Well, that’s it. Anton is gone, but we’re over halfway through so perhaps things aren’t all bad. Thanks for joining me, everyone, and don’t forget to join me next Saturday, when X Factor will inexplicably be five minutes longer than it was last night even though it has two fewer singers in it. I hate this joke of a life. Blardigan always wins.

He was Ok, Anton, wasn’t he? I mean, I’ll never buy any of his records or listen to any of his songs or ever think of him every again, but at least he wasn’t Max Stone.

And she does. Anton Stephans Is Going Home.

Mad Max: Fury Road | Blu-ray Review

Every so often, and in increasingly rare numbers, a big budget Hollywood extravaganza comes along and negates the crushing conditioned cynicism built into our cinematic receptors. Walking into a franchise reboot of a series that hasn’t received fresh blood in nearly three decades, following a trilogy of films having starred an infamously fallen matinee idol, forecasts were dubious at best for George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road. Premiering out of competition at Cannes just prior to receiving its worldwide premiere, the seventy year old originator of the iconic series defied all expectations to create a beautiful and intense action film, standing as one of the best sequels to arrive in well over a decade. Stuffed with innovative visuals, bloody violence, insanely choreographed car chases and serving a rudimentary feminist allegory coursing through the usual arid bromide of commonly testosterone laced genre, the film is unforgettable testament to the
