Movie Review – Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe (2019)

Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, 2019

Directed by Randall Lobb and Robert McCallum.

Synopsis:

A documentary that details the history of Mattel’s definitive action figure toy line and its growth into a hugely-popular film and TV property.

For sure, the name of this documentary is a mouthful. But for something that describes itself as definitive, you’d expect as much. As a title, Power of Grayskull: The Definitive History of He-Man and the Masters of the Universe is fairly self-explanatory as to its contents, and definitive it certainly is.

With that in mind – and for the sake of a word count – I’m going to refer to the movie as Grayskull for the rest of this review.

Now I feel as though I have to make it clear straight off the bat – this is a movie that’s right in my wheelhouse.

Live-Action Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Show May Be Coming To Netflix

Coming soon after reports that Paramount are still interested in a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie, it now seems we may see a Netflix live-action show, too.

Franchise co-creator Kevin Eastman discussed all things Tmnt at last weekend’s San Diego Comic-Con, and gave us some hints about plans for a new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles property. Eastman suggested that a harder-edged version of the Turtles, echoing the comic roots of the characters, could be a good fit for Netflix.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, he explained the potential ideas as so:

“…I feel like that’s the direction I think we can go and there’ll be enough of and audience to support both. Because we do see a lot of that fans asking when can we get that edgy, you know, Netflix Daredevil-ish sort of intensity of the Turtles – at the same time, you can balance that

There's Another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Movie in The Works and It Will Be "Next Level Type Stuff"

When you have a popular franchise like Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, you are going to want to milk it for all it’s worth and it looks like Paramount Pictures is preparing to get another movie made.

I’m personally not a fan of the past two Tmnt movies that have been made. It’s a rare thing for me to hate movies, but I did not like those films and I wasn’t the only one. But, maybe the studio actually learned from their mistakes as they move forward on this new project.

The news comes from Ninja Turtles co-creator Kevin Eastman, who when asked about a possible new film, he told Cb that the new film will be “next level type stuff”:

"Stay tuned. It is a work in progress cause, you know, the experiences and so the fans reactions plus and minus to the 2014, 2016 movie, uh,

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Fan Game Pays Tribute to Arcade Classic

Matthew Byrd Jun 24, 2019

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rescue-Palooza! remixes classics beat-em-ups while adding new content.

One dedicated fan has decided to pay tribute to the golden age of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles games) by creating a brand new arcade-like Tmnt title called Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Rescue-Palooza!

While plots have rarely played a big role in Tmnt games of the past, the story of Rescue-Palooza is actually integral to the appeal of this project. See, it seems that Shredder has decided to re-ignite his rivalry with the turtles by kidnapping all of their friends over the years. Actually, he's managed to kidnap about 60 people.

The reason that number is significant is that it also represents the total number of playable characters in this game. Yes, once you rescue one of the many kidnapped characters, they can be selected via the character selection menu alongside our turtle heroes.

Nickelodeon to Hold SpongeBob 20th Birthday Blowout at Comic-Con

Joseph Baxter Jun 18, 2019

SpongeBob SquarePants’s 20th anniversary will be the center of Nickelodeon’s grandiose Comic-Con presence this year.

SpongeBob SquarePants is turning 20 soon; a fact that Nickelodeon has spent much of the year reminding the world in celebratory jubilance. Besides the July 20 special, SpongeBob’s Big Birthday Blowout!, the diminutive dweller of a pineapple under the sea has lined up another movie, a confirmed prequel series and even possible spinoffs. However, San Diego Comic-Con will be the backdrop for a more ephemeral experience to celebrate said birthday, with Nickelodeon promising a party unlike anything else for convention attendees.

Nickelodeon is transforming the floor of Comic-Con into SpongeBob’s undersea hamlet home, Bikini Bottom! – Well, 1800 square feet of said floor, anyway. Indeed, Comic-Con International: San Diego July 18-21, 2019 will see the channel – in addition to an array of meet-and-greets, signings and giveaways – host an interactive experience for its

Marvel Fans Flock To Twitter To Wish Chris Evans A Happy Birthday

If you’re a diehard McU fan, you’ll no doubt know that there are way too many important dates to keep track of, especially if you want to be familiar with the ins and outs of every single facet of the universe. However, for those who are more interested in the actors and actresses that keep us entertained, there are fewer dates to be mindful of. Hint: today is one of them.

Nearly a decade ago, Chris Evans hit the big screen to bring Captain America to life and has since been featured in nearly a dozen McU films (assuming we count uncredited cameos and post-credits scenes). While he may have retired from his role as Steve Rogers in Avengers: Endgame, his contribution to the franchise won’t be forgotten anytime soon, and earlier today, fans flocked to Twitter to wish the star a happy birthday.

For those who weren’t aware,

Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Review

James Hunt Jun 5, 2019

If anything, Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles isn't bonkers enough.

In the gloaming of the 21st Century’s second decade, the pop-cultural narrative has been dominated by superhero mash-ups and the idea of shared universes.

From the McU to the Dceu, from Ready Player One to Wreck-It Ralph, audiences have favoured combination over innovation. Whether you deride it as the end of culture, or forgive it as a collective grasp for familiarity in a world too mad to comprehend, it’s hard to deny that it is, for better or worse, what people want.

So it is that we find ourselves watching Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Fears of a cultural nadir aside, there’s tons to enjoy in this surprisingly apposite meeting. Batman and the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are all, at their core, city-based crimefighters with an animal theme and a plenty of martial arts moves.

Batman Vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Blu-ray Review

Something I’m enjoying seeing lately is animation catching up to the comic book realm when it comes to crossovers. In most instances, we’ve been forced to rely on the latter because it’s really been the only medium to get around red tape separating various franchises. But thanks to some of the top publishers out there, Batman has fought the Predator, Archie has had to survive a Sharknado, and the Ghostbusters will soon meet up with the Transformers.

Now, because of Batman vs. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the acclaimed miniseries written by James Tynion IV and illustrated by Freddie Williams II has been adapted to film. Actually, before either version came along, the only way for these pop culture icons to cross paths was in our imaginations – and maybe sometimes with the help of action figures. Odds are that my six-year-old self probably concocted such a mashup back in the day.

eBuying Comics: Week 19

  • Nerdly
It is fair to say like Star Wars in the 70′s and Game of Thrones today, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were a pop culture phenomenon. Between 1984 when the comic debut and the mid 90′s the heroes in a half shell were everywhere. Comics, cartoons, movies, actions figures and pizza boxes. The humble beginnings to major success are the kind of things dreams are made of for self publishing comics creators. To this day an Tmnt #1 (Mirage Studios) is one of comic collectors most highly desirable comics. A graded 9.8 (Nm) first print of the very first issue is valued at upwards of £13000. First print comics from the original Mirage Studios are very rare sightings at conventions and even rarer on eBay. Eventually there were five printings of the #1 taking its print run to 1988. The only one I was able to find on eBay was a third printing, it was listed as

DuVernay teams with 'Batman' book comic scribe for film

Hollywood Director Ava DuVernay and 'Batman' book comic scribe Tom King are teaming up for the film The New Gods.

DuVernay announced on Twitter that King is coming aboard to write The New Gods with her, the DC film project she has set up at Warner Bros, reports deadline.com.

It was reported by deadline.com last year that DuVernay is attached to direct a big screen adaptation of the Jack Kirby comic.

The New Gods was the Genesis of the uber-villain Darkseid. Also called "Fourth World," the story unfolded in a trilogy of related comics written and drawn by Kirby that were published in the early 1970s: The New Gods, Forever People and Mister Miracle.

Chris Evans Has Portrayed 8 Different Comic Book Characters

With Avengers: Endgame slowly disappearing from the limelight, it looks like Chris Evans has officially ended his long-running tenure as Captain America. While it was a bittersweet moment for sure, fans are beginning to accept the changes which have recently hit the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and if one thing’s certain, it’s that the future is going to look very different moving forward.

In the midst of his departure from the McU though, some folks have started to look at his entire filmography and discovered something quite intriguing. Throughout the last two decades, Chris has played over a half a dozen comic book roles spanning close to 20 movies. While a good chunk of that can be attributed to his stint as Captain America, if you dig deeper, you’ll find he has quite an extensive history of characters which got their start in comics.

In fact, we’ve gone
