Men In Black: International Review

Not long into the first act of Men in Black: International, a thought popped into my mind that I just couldn’t shake. It’s not a particularly controversial musing, but it’s certainly something I never expected to believe, so bear with me: I miss the foregone days of a Barry Sonnenfeld comedy.

Sure, the Golden Raspberry Award-winning director gave us some of the most abysmal films of the past twenty years, but before there was Wild Wild West and Rv, there were the critically acclaimed Get Shorty, both Christina Ricci-starring Adams Family films and most significantly, 1997’s Men in Black. Odds are if you’re reading this review, you’re familiar with the Will Smith-starring action adventure comedy, which only works because it’s too smart to play it cool. Twenty-two years later, Men in Black: International does its best to recapture the spirit of the original,

“His intelligence, his worldliness and his work ethic are what really touched me â€. and his ability to care for people of all walks of life was just very inspiring,” the 25-year-old singer tells People. “The way that he made everybody feel special and

In 2004, 13-year-old Joanna “JoJo” Levesque hit the charts with her breakout smash “Leave (Get Out).” Two well-received albums followed, and she was poised for a promising career in pop â€. until a seven-year lawsuit with her former label halted her from releasing new music.

Save for appearances in movies like Rv (with Robin Williams) and G.B.F., the young starlet seemed to have disappeared from the public eye as she and her legal team fought to reinstate her artistic freedom, which culminated last week when JoJo, now 25, finally released Mad Love, her first full-length album in a decade,

One Year Later, I Still Miss Robin Williams

It was August 11, 2014. The theater was full with an advance screening of The Giver starring Jeff Bridges and Meryl Streep. The red carpet event was live-streamed prior to the showing as stars from the film flooded in and entered the New York City party while we, in Knoxville, Tenn., gazed at the screen.

I checked my phone for the time and came across a message on the screen.

“Actor Robin Williams found dead at his home. He was 63.”

A friend put it best when he said that hearing the news of Williams’s passing surprised him with grief.

It did the same for me.

Now, to this point, Robin Williams was just another face (or voice) on the screen to me. An actor who had given life to Genie in Aladdin, the main character of Flubber, and was Mrs. Doubtfire. Nothing of note, but fun most of the time.

Feel free to join us by adding your own.

I was pretty young when Robin Williams first rose to stardom as Mork from Ork, but I was a dedicated fan. I bought a pair of official Mork suspenders and wore them all the time.

An emotional 'Ask Drew' looks back at the life and work of the great Robin Williams

An emotional 'Ask Drew' looks back at the life and work of the great Robin Williams
"Suicide is a permanent solution to temporary problems." - Robin Williams, "World's Greatest Dad" This is a very emotional "Ask Drew." This is, I would suspect, the closest you're ever going to see to me losing it on camera completely. I guess I shouldn't have been surprised when there was a Robin Williams question, since it's still so fresh and so raw for so many people, but I couldn't have known just how hard it would be to talk about him. I mean, I have stared at the blinking cursor on my blank document page for almost two days now, grappling with one question: how in the hell do you even remotely begin to sum up someone as huge as Robin Williams? We could start from the personal angle. I could tell you about the occasional e-mails I got from him when I was at Ain't It Cool, or the

Robin Williams: A Man of a Million Voices

Yesterday we ran a story on some of Robin Williams’ most under appreciated performances. But as the remembrances keep rolling in and as new, gruesome details about his suicide become apparent, it became clear that Williams didn’t just have depth in his filmography; he was an actor and performer who displayed worlds of expression and moved so many in remarkable and distinct ways.

Rather than ask our staff to rattle off more of their favorites, we asked them to recall Williams’ personality and the legacy his work left on their lives. We’re looking at each side of his many faces as a comedian, a movie star, a voice actor and a true character, offering our final goodbye to a man who gave us so much.

Robin Williams Left Behind Four Unreleased Movies

The untimely death of Robin Williams has certainly been felt, and will continue to reverberate in our minds and hearts, and on our screens, for years to come. Williams was at work on a number of projects before he died, four of which are films that are already in the can and will be seen this year and next.

The first project is Merry Friggin’ Christmas, an indie comedy with a November 7th release date, which also stars Joel McHale and Wendy McLendon-Covey. Williams plays McHale’s father, who joins his son on a road trip to retrieve some forgotten gifts. This sounds a little bit too close to some of Williams’s later film roles (like Rv), which left a little something to be desired, but just the presence of the comedian on screen will be enough to get me to give it a chance.

The actor will then

Monday’s episode of Conan ended on an unusually somber note. The cause: During the course of taping that evening’s show, Conan O’Brien, Andy Richter, and their guest Will Arnett got word of Robin Williams’ unexpected death.

“We tape these shows a few hours early, and by the time you see this now on TV, I’m sure that you’ll know. I’m sorry to anybody in our studio audience that I’m breaking this news—this is absolutely shocking and horrifying, and so upsetting on every level,” a visibly shaken O’Brien explained at the end of the show.

Robin Williams moved from commercial productions to prestige cinema with ease
I had to stop and think about it. When was the first time I encountered Robin Williams? I'm pretty sure it was reruns of "Mork & Mindy" at a young age, if not the boisterous Oscar-nominated performance he gave in Barry Levinson's "Good Morning, Vietnam." By then he had already dazzled countless audiences in "The World According to Garp." Whatever it was, like so many, it was the start of, as his widow noted in a release, "countless moments of joy and laughter" he would deliver for the next three decades of my life. And now, he's gone. It soon became erratic late night appearances with David Letterman and the like, as the movies flowed in. Terry Gilliam's "The Adventures of Baron Munchausen," for instance, or another, much more timid Oscar-nominated performance in Peter Weir's "Dead Poets Society." He continued to spotlight range and versatility in Penny Marshall

Faerie Evil: The Making of Maleficent

Trevor Hogg chats with director Robert Stromberg, production visual effects supervisor Carey Villegas, visual effects supervisors Seth Maury and Kelly Port, digital effects supervisor Darren Hendler, and previs supervisor Mark Nelson about reviving a Disney classic…

“There are not many production designers/visual effects people who have made the leap which doesn’t make sense to me because it seems like the perfect breeding ground to moving up into directing,” reflects filmmaker Robert Stromberg who started as a matte painter and became the Oscar-winning production designer for Avatar [2009] and Alice in Wonderland [2010]. “On Master and Commander [2003] I met Peter Weir and we hit it off. I came in as a Visual Effects Supervisor and spent so much time with Peter that I became a liaison between him and Ilm. We started talking about other things especially about characters and what it is like to direct. I learned so much from

‘The Angriest Man in Brooklyn’

The Angriest Man in Brooklyn

Written by Daniel Taplitz

Directed by Phil Alden Robinson

USA, 2014

When one thinks of comedy, one name always comes to mind. He is a man of supreme funny-man power, impeccable timing, and an almost unlimited supply of improvised genius: Robin Williams. Over the course of four decades, Williams has delighted audiences both young and old, from his wacky comedies and stand-up routines to his occasional voice-over work in animation. Though known mostly for his comedy, he is also a very talented dramatic actor. He is a man who continually surprises. Unfortunately, however, with his latest cinematic effort, The Angriest Man in Brooklyn, it seems he may have run out of steam and this is unfortunate because the subject matter of this film is full of true potential.

Williams is Henry Altmann, a bitter man in his 60s, angry at everything and everyone around him. His

2014 MTV Movie Awards Led by 'American Hustle' and 'Wolf of Wall Street'

The 2014 MTV Movie Awards were announced today and once again it's a grab bag of nominees, but this year is even more curious than most as the one film thought to be the most populist film of the lot, Gravity, comes away with only one nomination and that being for Sandra Bullock for Best Actress. Then you have the Movie of the Year category, which pits The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire against American Hustle, The Wolf of Wall Street and 12 Years a Slave. I don't know how the nominees are decided at the MTV Movie Awards, but I know the winners are supposedly determined by MTV viewers, which means, looking at this list, the Hunger Games crowd is likely to make a huge mark.... or, it could be the Leonardo DiCaprio crowd that became ever-so-vocal after he, predictably, lost Best Actor at the Oscars.
