The near tragedy makes a strong situation

Made by the Paris Eclair Company, this two-part subject will hold from beginning to end. Charles Krauss has the role of a playwright, rather fascinated by the woman who is to interpret the leading role in this new drama. Of the player his wife is jealous. Hers is a fine characterization. She shows by her manner that she is a beaten woman; she realizes she is losing her hold upon her husband, but lacks the art. the finesse, the ability to play a bold hand or to adopt opposition tactics. She inspires pity if not necessarily respect. That she should resort to strategy, to attempt to remove her rival through the hand of another, was perfectly natural. The near tragedy makes a strong situation and it is finely treated. Another splendidly staged scene is where the playwright reads his work to the assembled players and the manager, Mr. Liabel gives a thoroughly workmanlike portrayal of the leading man. Miss Andriot has the role of the leading woman. - The Moving Picture World, December 6, 1913
