Alessandra Di Sanzo,
Padre Puglisi a priest from a mafia-controlled district of Paleremo, helps kids to get off the streets and in his church creates an embracing place of hope and righteousness, which means trouble for the local mafia. He continues his solitary fight until the bitter end.Written by
For three years Don Giuseppe (Pino) Puglisi was the Parish of Brancaccio district of Palermo. He was murdered on his 56th birthday on September 15th,1993 by Mafia killers. Don Puglisi fought actively the social environment where Mafia grows and flourishes. He founded and ran a Center for the children and the teenagers, giving them both an alternative to their native environment and a way to escape to Mafia enrollment. The movie style is grave and severe, the protagonist is at the same time loving and rough.Director Roberto Faenza and actor Luca Zingaretti are perfect for a perfect movie. I wish to recommend to see both "Alla luce del sole" and "I cento passi" (aka "The one-hundred steps") by Marco Tullio Giordana, another excellent movie on the Mafia subject.
