Ratings: ‘Roseanne’ Finale Dips, But Still Beats ‘The Voice’ Finale – and Everything Else
Roseanne” went out with a bang with Tuesday night’s season finale. And though this episode put up lower Nielsen numbers than last week’s, the ABC revival still managed to top NBC’s season finale of “The Voice” — and every other show on broadcast TV — in the all-important adults 18-49 age range.

The “Roseanne” finale scored a 2.4 rating/11 share and 10.3 million viewers. Those gaudy figures for the half-hour sitcom weren’t enough for ABC to topple first-place NBC in terms of primetime averages.

CBS, which was runner-up in total viewers for the night, aired the most-watched show of the night: the “NCIS” season finale.

Airing at 8 p.m. on ABC, “Roseanne” averaged a 2.4 rating in adults 18-49 and 10.3 million viewers. That is off by a few percentage points from the 2.6 and 10.7 million the show drew last week. This week’s episode was also the lowest-rated and least-watched episode of “Roseanne” this season, but nevertheless it was still far and away the top show of the night in the demo.

The Middle” averaged a 1.7 rating and 7.1 million viewers. Those are the best numbers the show has drawn since April, as well as an improvement of 42% in the demo and 34% in total viewers compared to last season’s finale.

Black Panther Is a Cultural Movement, and This 1 Is Finally For Us

At last, I was able to watch a superhero flick without remaining still in my seat. I lived to see the day when a woman who looks like me kicks ass in every action scene thanks to Black Panther. My people, we have been invited to commence #WakandaWeek by shattering box office debuts - yes, we did that. A tear nearly fell from my eye because this is what I've been waiting for. I've been waiting to feel a sense of belonging, for a moment to finally exhale. I enjoy being engulfed in the adrenaline rush that takes over me when I watch movies starring Thor, Batman, the Avengers, etc., and when my friend bought us tickets to see Black Panther in IMAX 3D, I told her that she gave me a reason to dress up. We weren't the only ones who turned a movie date into a red carpet

Will Smith is only a few months out from costarring in his first major superhero movie (no, we're not counting Hancock) with Suicide Squad, and from the looks of it his character Deadshot will return again soon, either in a sequel or another DC-branded movie.  But before we see Smith don the assassin's costume yet again, he'll be in a unique monster movie hitting Netflix later this year called Bright. The first trailer for Bright -- which sort of feels like Alien Nation meets Lord of the Rings -- arrived during the Oscars, and you can check it out below. With Bright, Smith reteams with Suicide Squad director David Ayer for a movie (written by Chronicle's Max Landis, mind you) about a world where fantasty creatures like Orcs live side by side with humans...

Will Smith Won’t Fly In Tim Burton’s Live-Action Dumbo

Admittedly, Will Smith was always an odd choice for Tim Burton’s Dumbo remake. The A-list star isn’t necessarily known for his Disney movies, and he’s often quite particular with the films he does make – even if some of his recent choices, like last year’s Suicide Squad and Collateral Beauty, weren’t necessarily the most critically rewarding. Nevertheless, the actor was in talks to star in the studio’s live-action adaptation of their classic 1941 animated film, though the tides have now changed, as Smith is no longer involved, according to Deadline.

From what we’re hearing, the Hancock star reportedly backed out due to salary and scheduling concerns. Such is the life of those in Hollywood. With Sony hoping to bring Bad Boys for Life to fruition with Martin Lawrence involved and Joe Carnahan writing and directing, it seems Smith’s more interested in returning to one

Celebrating the movie roles of Eddie Marsan

Mark Harrison Oct 11, 2016

We salute the film work of one of Britain's very best, and most versatile, film actors: Mr Eddie Marsan...

Eddie Marsan isn't just one of the best British actors working today – he's also one of the busiest, appearing in all kinds of supporting roles in major movies, while also appearing on TV a lot, on both sides of the Atlantic. He was fantastic as the latter lead in BBC One's Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell last year and he's also a regular on Showtime's Ray Donovan as Ray's brother Terry, an ex-boxer suffering from Parkinson's disease.

On the big screen though, it's Marsan's versatility that really makes him so watchable. He's had attention grabbing turns in minor roles in blockbusters like Hancock, Mission: Impossible III and Guy Ritchie's Sherlock Holmes films, but he's also at home amongst a big ensemble in more serious fare like Spielberg

Weekend Box Office Preview: Tim Burton’s ‘Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children’ Will Nab Top Spot
Things get serious this weekend. Three studio released with a combined cost of some $300 million —”Deepwater Horizon” (Lionsgate), “Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children” (20th Century Fox) and “Masterminds” (Relativity)— are opening on a single early fall release date.

After three fall weeks, Clint Eastwood’s “Sully” is the sole clear winner with “The Magnificent Seven” opening in the mid-$30 millions. So the season is down 15% so far.

For all three new releases, this timing could be perilous. The same weekend in 2015, “The Martian” opened at $54 million and the second weekend of “Hotel Transylvania 2” scored $33 million, boosting a Top Ten total to $140 million. Weekend results could bring both marginal returns for the three studios as well as a continuation of the downward trend.

At least each of this week’s debut films can rely on some pedigree to boost their chances. But their anticipated results will all fall

Movie Review – Deepwater Horizon (2016)

Deepwater Horizon, 2016.

Directed by Peter Berg.

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Kurt Russell, Gina Rodriquez, Dylan O’Brien, Kate Hudson and John Malkovich.

A story set on the offshore drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, which exploded during April 2010 and created the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

By all accounts, it would have been far easier for Deepwater Horizon, Peter Berg’s surprising retelling of the Bp oil rig disaster of 2010 – to pull its punches, to water down its politics, to portray British Petroleum as incidental disaster artists. Yet to Peter Berg’s credit – who is again finding his feet after the one-two of Hancock and Battleship – he’s created a blockbuster that at once is ripe with anger, whilst operating as an incredibly efficient blockbuster.

Berg has always occupied a strange space in Hollywood. His Friday Night Lights was at times meditative, yet his latter films are far more akin

The Weekend Warrior 9/30/2016: Deepwater Horizon, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Masterminds

Welcome back to the Weekend Warrior, your weekly look at the new movies hitting theaters this weekend, as well as other cool events and things to check out.

This Past Weekend:

While the new movies reigned at the box office this past weekend, both Antoine Fuqua’s The Magnificent Seven (Sony) and the animated Storks (Warner Bros.) didn’t fare nearly as well as our projections, both falling short by about $10 million. The Magnificent Seven, starring Denzel Washington and Chris Pratt, fared decently with $34.7million, which is about the average for Washington’s films, but the fourth highest opening for a Western after last year’s The Revenant, the animated Rango, and Cowboys and Aliens. Storks’ $21.3 million opening wasn’t great compared to other animated September releases with Sony still holding the September opening record with Hotel Transylvania 2, but it should continue to do well with no other animated movies opening for another month.
