Storyline

Loomis Crowley is testing the underground game Stay Alive with his friends Sarah and Rex. When the game is over, Loomis finds Rex and Sarah dead in their room, and he is pushed by a shadow from the staircase, breaking the banister and hanging the same way he died in the game. Loomis' sister, Emma, gives his game to his best friend, Hutch. They, and his friends Miller, Phineus with his sister October, Swink and Abigail play the game together. When Miller and Phineus die the same way they died in the game, the survivors disclose that the game is based on the life of the evil Countess Elizabeth Bathory. She was buried alive in the tower of her real state in the Geronge Plantation. With the police chasing them, and after the death of October, the survivors reach the house and try to find the corpse of the Countess to destroy her fiend. Trivia

Although the term "Blood Countess" is used in the movie's synopsis, it is never said within the movie. When Hutch and Abigail are hearing the story of Elizabeth Bathory from the author of the book "The Lady of Blood", the author says, "Thus began her obsession" (speaking of using the blood of the girls as a "Fountain of Youth", as Abigail says), to which Hutch replies, "The Blood Countess" (not in the theatrical version, but at approximately 1 hour 1 minute and 44 seconds on the uncut-version DVD). Goofs

At the beginning of the movie, the mansion is shown with Loomis playing. Later when the rest of the group plays, the layout of the mansion is completely different. Towards the end of the movie, the actual mansion Hutch and Abigail are in and the mansion Swink plays in the game are different from the others. The layout of the game mansion and the live mansion never match the previous. See more »

Really cool
27 October 2006 | by See all my reviews

After seeing the movie, I was freaked out to even go down to my basement in fear that I may see "The Bloody Countess". I was truly freaked out by this movie. The whole storyline of the video game tied in very well. Made it almost believable. The next day I checked the movie out online to find that this was based on the REAL bloody countess, Elizabeth Bathory. I found it quite interesting the life this woman led. That people (NOBLE PEOPLE) can get away with things like this. The depths she would go to, to stay youthful and the harm she put on to so many girls. I would recommend this to anyone to enjoys a heart stopper and to encourage them to check out the real story behind this woman. Quite graphic and gross to be truthful but interesting at the same time.
