Muy Caliente!
Perhaps I am not the person best qualified to comment on this new DVD. I am completely unfamiliar with Los Lobos' studio work, and have only seen them in concert once before. And that was over 15 years ago, when they opened for the Grateful Dead here in the NYC area. I must confess that, Deadhead though I am, I thought they kicked tuchus on the Dead that day. (Granted, this was one of those shows at which Uncle Jerry was "nodding out" over his guitar!) Anywaste, a coworker who's a huge Los Lobos fan convinced me to try this new DVD, and man, am I ever glad that I listened to him! From first tune to last, this is an extremely high-energy display, filled with many jaw-dropping moments. I don't know if this level of intensity is par for the course at all Los Lobos shows, but geez, what cookers the boogying audiences at the fabled Fillmore shrine got on the two nights preserved on this set! Covering numerous styles of music, showcasing great musical dexterity from every member of the band, and going off on extended explorations that should satisfy any (tie) dyed-in-the-wool jamfan, these tunes really do smoke. One tune (I believe the name is "That Train Don't Stop Here") gets so intense that you just can't believe it. Los Lobos fans, and ALL fans of great music, should be delighted with how this DVD has turned out. Buy it or rent it out and then crank it up! There's only two more words that I have to describe it: MUY CALIENTE!
