Tyra Banks on ‘Top Model’ and Why She Keeps Fighting to Prove Herself in the Industry

Tyra Banks on ‘Top Model’ and Why She Keeps Fighting to Prove Herself in the Industry
Tyra Banks is sitting in her trailer on the set of “America’s Next Top Model” on a Saturday afternoon in Santa Monica, Calif. She’s hair-and-makeup-ready, wearing sweat pants and about two hours away from taping the finale of Season 24, which is expected to last well past midnight.

Though she’s working on the weekend, the day before shooting the finale, Banks was hard at work on another project: her upcoming book. And the day before that, the new mother spent all day on the “Top Model” set, shooting the penultimate episode of the season and sitting in executive meetings to plan the big finale.

That busy schedule is why Banks stepped away from her on-camera duties last season of “Top Model,” selecting Rita Ora to host, while she continued her producing work. But after overwhelming noise from fans, Banks decided that a one-season hiatus was enough, and it was time to get back to wearing

Tyra’s gone Tyger!

Supermodel Tyra Banks took fierce to a new level, by channeling a tiger for a ferocious photo shoot in the new issue of Paper magazine, which hits newsstands on Tuesday.

Et was there as the America’s Next Top Model host underwent a stunning transformation which required a five-foot wig, a tiger mask made from hundreds of sequins, five sets of fake nails and three sets of prosthetics.

“I call my fans tigers with a ‘Y’ and the creative director of Paper magazine was like, ‘Girl, I want to turn you into a t-y-g-e-r!’” Banks explained about the fun concept.

“I've never done prosthetics in a glamourous way,” she added. “However, I have done prosthetics for when I was turned into a man and actually when they transformed me into a man I was attracted to myself. I was like, ‘Wow, I look kind of hot.’”

Model Calls for Stylists to ‘Learn How to Do Black Hair’ After They Avoided Her Backstage at Paris Fashion Week
Though runways are getting increasingly more diverse every season, the same progress seemingly isn’t being made backstage.

Model Londone Myers called attention to the different treatment she received at Paris Fashion Week in an Instagram post. In the time-lapse video, stylists buzz around models getting ready for the show while Myers sits in the hair and makeup chair, apparently ignored by the backstage glam squad.

“I don’t need special treatment from anyone. What I need is for hairstylists to learn how to do black hair,” she captioned the post. “I’m so tired of people avoiding doing my hair at shows.

Tyra Banks and Erik Asla Split After 5 Years Together
Tyra Banks and photographer Erik Asla have broken up, a source tells Et.

Banks and Asla had been dating since 2013. The two welcomed their 1-year-old son, York Banks Asla, via surrogacy last January.

"There was no drama at all," the source says of their breakup. "They are still friends and co-parenting their son, York Banks Asla, together.”

Tyra is a very hands-on mom, so it is not surprising she would continue to co-parent with Erik," the source adds.

Et has reached out to reps for comment.

Et spoke to Banks last July, when she talked about the benefits of working with Asla professionally.

Why 'America's Got Talent' Needs to Replace Tyra Banks as Host
The next winner of America's Got Talent is about to be crowned. However, the long-running reality competition has a more important decision on the horizon. While new host Tyra Banks started off the season as a passable, if boring, stand-in for Nick Cannon, her live show hosting performances have been a different story. The increased pressure of the live shows has created some increasingly bad outings by Tyra and Agt would be best off replacing her for season 13.

ABC Daytime Head Lisa Hackner Out in Department Reorganization

ABC Daytime Head Lisa Hackner Out in Department Reorganization
Daytime head Lisa Hackner is out at ABC, Variety has learned. Hackner served as the network’s exec VP of daytime and syndicated programming, joining in October 2013.

The department is being reorganized affecting about 5 to 10 people on the West Coast, source tells Variety, as a result of “FabLife’s” cancellation. Some staffers were offered other opportunities within the company. Hackner has elected to leave the company and stay on during a transition period, the source said.

During her time of roughly three years at ABC, Hackner did not develop or bring about any successful new programs, which sources say led to her departure. She oversaw last season’s short-lived Tyra Banks panel show “FabLife,” which was cancelled after one season, following Banks preemptively quitting her own series. “The View” also shifted from the daytime purview to ABC’s news division in 2014.

Hackner had a close relationship with Banks, having developed her successful daytime talker “The Tyra Banks Show” at

Film Review: ‘Fursonas’

Film Review: ‘Fursonas’
The fascinating phenomenon of “furries,” or people who don anthropomorphic full-body costumes for role-playing purposes, gets some — but not much — light shed on it in “Fursonas.” With director Dominic Rodriguez (apparently a sometime furry himself) perhaps assuming more familiarity than the average viewer is likely to have, this documentary leaves many basic questions unanswered while getting mired in in-fighting between different factions at odds over their community’s public-image control. Winner of a Spirit of Slamdance award, it’s sure to intrigue the curious in further festival and possible niche commercial exposure. But one suspects the definitive nonfiction-cinema study of this subject has yet to be made.

“Furry fandom,” which according to some experts dates back at least to the early 1980s, can take different forms, from people paying specific homage to beloved childhood Saturday-morning-cartoon characters to those who’ve created a unique animal alter ego for themselves. The first

Tyra Banks Leaves Her Own Talk Show, FABLife, After Two Months

Tyra Banks Leaves Her Own Talk Show, FABLife, After Two Months
Tyra Banks is exiting her own daytime talk show FABLife after just two months. "This is a very difficult decision, but necessary," she tells The Hollywood Reporter, saying she'll instead be focusing on her beauty company. Banks will remain as an executive producer until December, but the lifestyle show (which debuted in September) reportedly won't replace her with another host. Other co-hosts include Chrissy Teigen, fashion editor Joe Zee, interior designer Lauren Makk, and Diy YouTuber Leah Ashley. FABLife had been billed as Banks's big return to daytime television since her Emmy-winning The Tyra Banks Show ended in 2010, but that hype will have to be short-lived. Banks, of course, is also approaching the potential end of America's Next Top Model, which may or may not see its final smize after its current cycle.

Tyra Banks Leaving Her Own Talk Show ‘FABLife’ to Focus on Cosmetics Line
Tyra Banks is leaving her own talk show “FABLife,” just two months after the daytime talker premiered, Variety has confirmed.

The host is departing the show to focus on her new cosmetics line. In a joint statement released to Variety, Banks and Disney/ABC say, “Tyra Banks has made the decision to scale back her role on the nationally syndicated lifestyle show ‘FABLife.'”

Banks will be on the show two to three times per week through the end of 2015, and will occasionally appear through the end of the season. She will also continue her exec producer duties for the remainder of the year.

“This is a very difficult decision, but necessary,” Banks’ statement reads. “I will be devoting more time to my new, growing cosmetics company, Tyra Beauty, which is expanding faster than anticipated, as well as overseeing my company’s other entertainment ventures. I will however continue to

‘FabLife’: Tyra Banks, Chrissy Teigen & Joe Zee Tease New Daytime Talker

‘FabLife’: Tyra Banks, Chrissy Teigen & Joe Zee Tease New Daytime Talker
Tyra Banks is back on daytime TV with new panel show “FABLife,” but the model-turned-television host promises the syndie talker will be unlike anything viewers have seen before on the small screen.

“I’m interested in things that are not the same. I’m also interested in television where I’m not by myself. It is hard by yourself, it is lonely by yourself, it is tiring by yourself,” says Banks, who hosted six seasons of her own syndicated talk show “The Tyra Banks Show” from 2005 to 2010, adding that the “life-stylist” co-hosts are what make the show unique.

“I was not interested in coming back to daytime and doing like, ‘Tyra Show’ part two,” the host insists.

Banks is joined by four lifestyle experts who round out the roundtable with different areas of expertise. Chrissy Teigen, the model and “Lip Sync Battle” host who has garnered a huge social media

FABLife: Tyra Banks assembles a lifestyle dream team to make you fabulous

Tyra Banks was in the midst of a successful run hosting and executive producing her daytime talker The Tyra Banks Show, helming the wildly successful America’s Next Top Model and dabbling in other TV ventures when she realized everything was going so right … and felt terrifically wrong. “At that time in my career, I was probably the most successful, lucrative and relevant — everything in my life — and the most unhappy,” Banks admits. McLoughlin, who served as president of Telepictures Productions from 2006 to 2013 and has worked on myriad talkshows, including “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” and “The Tyra Banks Show,” is now spearheading new changes on “The View.” She’ll help make key hires for next season to freshen up the show, and advise on the show’s strategy for publicity, marketing and booking.

For the first time, “The View” has a smaller audience (2.52 million) than “The Talk” (2.55 million). Three of the four co-hosts of season 18, Rosie O’Donnell, Rosie Perez and Nicolle Wallace, exited the show. Amid all the changes following Barbara Walters’ retirement in May 2014, ABC News took over management of “The View” from the daytime division, a mandate from Disney
