Storyline

When a shy girl, secretly in love with her rocker-grrl housemate, meets an unbalanced heiress on the run, anything could (and does) happen in BRUSHFIRES, the latest production from Chicago-based film group Split Pillow. As the three women negotiate the dangerous relationships among them, the seven women directors weave a sensual tale of suspense. Drawing inspiration from the poem by Jessica Wilbur and the surrealist parlour game, The Exquisite Corpse, each director selected a word or phrase on which to base her segment, and the seven chapters of the film bear their individual marks. This impressive experiment in filmmaking emerges as a sensitive tale of young desire, loss, and love's confusion. Written by Split Pillow

Worth A Look
16 December 2005 | by valis1949See all my reviews

A nice Independent film from Chicago. Although the film begins with a Lesbian perspective, it is more about roommates who forget their reasons for moving in together, than it is about Lesbian relationships, although that is a factor. I think that you could say that the characters are sicker than there sexual identities. There are some real 'manipulators' in this film. Interesting digital photography, and all of the sets look very fine. It also has a very good soundtrack.

Do Not Dismiss this film because of any Gay/Lesbian slant, it holds up on the relationships between the characters. The film is fairly low budget, in fact, real low, but it still manages to use some fairly interesting digital techniques. I am glad that my local Blockbuster picked up this 'small film'.
