HBO Max Movies and TV Shows Streaming in February 2021
February brings the release of two Warner Bros. theatricals premiering in theaters and on HBO Max on the same day. Debuting on February 12, Judas and the Black Messiah tells the story of Bill O'Neal (Lakeith Stanfield), who infiltrates the Black Panthers per FBI Agent Mitchell (Jesse Plemons) and J. Edgar Hoover (Martin Sheen). As Black Panther Chairman Fred Hampton (Daniel Kaluuya) ascends, falling for a fellow revolutionary (Dominique Fishback) en route, a battle wages for O'Neal's soul.

Tom & Jerry, which premieres on February 26, reignites one of the most beloved rivalries in history when Jerry moves into New York City's finest hotel on the eve of "the wedding of the century," forcing the event's desperate planner to hire Tom to get rid of him.

HBO Max New Releases: February 2021

HBO Max New Releases: February 2021
When it released Wonder Woman 1984 to its HBO Max servers in December, WarnerMedia made it abundantly clear that it was ready for a new era of movie distribution. Now, in its list of new releases for February 2021, Warner is attempting another grand experiment for HBO Max.

Judas and the Black Messiah premieres on HBO Max this Feb. 12 and is by every indication the kind of film that awards shows go gaga over. Both Daniel Kaluuya and and Lakeith Stanfield look to be at the top of their respective games in this story about Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and the FBI that wants to take him down. Will this have the same rhetorical oomph on the small screen? Guess we’ll find out!

"Chris came in with a thriller concept. He pitched this very elaborate, dense idea. We wanted it to feel much more like Seven. But it has so many ties to the mythos of Saw."

On top of that, she has a new movie coming out called Death of Me, which hails from director Darren Lynn Bousman.

Upcoming Movies in October 2020: Theaters, Streaming and VOD

Upcoming Movies in October 2020: Theaters, Streaming and VOD
October looks a lot different than it did only a few weeks ago. As the month many movie theater owners were hanging their hats on with the hope of a weekly deluge of new movies , October has recently been vacated by high profile features that include Wonder Woman 1984, Death on the Nile, and Candyman.

Yet if you’re a cinephile or movie lover who is desperate for new stories and visions, it is not all doom and gloom. Between the streaming market of Netflix, VOD, and other platforms, as well as some smaller films willing to roll the dice on a limited theatrical release, there are still more than a few things to see in October 2020…

2067

October 2 (U.S. Only)

A high-concept science fiction setup if we’ve ever heard one, 2067 is the story of Ethan Whyte (Kodi Smit-McPhee), a young man born in a dystopian future where he

Upcoming Horror Movies in October 2020: Theaters, Streaming, and VOD
October is here, which means it’s the time of the season for getting scared. With Halloween gradually becoming a month-long celebration over the past few years — even if the coronavirus has put a damper on many activities such as trick-or-treating — one thing we can always look forward to during these 31 days is a deluge of horror movies old and new, whether via streaming, cable network marathons or even fleeting theatrical releases.

Horror is already a reliable genre both at the box office (under normal circumstances) and in the digital space, so it’s no surprise that even in these compromised times, scary movies are coming at us hard and fast in October. Below is a round-up of fresh horror releases arriving either at your local multiplex (and we urge you to keep the risks of going to the theater in mind) or right in your living room. Ironically, even in decidedly unnerving times,

Darren Lynn Bousman Explains How Chris Rock Brought Him Back to the Saw Franchise [Exclusive]

Darren Lynn Bousman Explains How Chris Rock Brought Him Back to the Saw Franchise [Exclusive]
Director James Wan's Saw is one of the most influential horror movies of the modern era. But it can be argued that Darren Lynn Bousman, who helmed Saw II, Saw III and Saw IV is perhaps the most instrumental figure in making it the huge franchise it is today. Now, after more than a decade away, Bousman is returning to the series for Spiral, which is set to hit theaters next year. Bousman had vowed never to return but the power of Chris Rock managed to pull him back in.

I recently had the chance to speak with Darren Lynn Bousman about his new movie Death of Me, which arrives later this month. We'll have the full interview up soon. During our conversation, the subject of Spiral Came up. Bousman explained to me what drew him back to the franchise after all this time, and it all started with getting to meet Chris Rock,

Another Decade with Takashi Miike: Flip Your Wig

Another Decade with Takashi Miike: Flip Your Wig
Another Decade with Takashi Miike is a series of essays on the 2010s films of the Japanese maverick, following Notebook's earlier survey of Miike's first decade of the 21st century. In tallying up the sum of Takashi Miike’s work, getting anything like a concrete read on his artistic outlook and output is difficult, bordering on impossible. He made it easy to pigeonhole him by specializing for a time on the outré and the unapologetically crass at a time when, in America anyway, artists were losing a culture war. Western critics didn’t quite know what to make of a turn towards unrepentantly violence images in horror films as a species. Gore in service of a deliberate sledgehammer nihilism seems to be catching on so the majority of critics do as they always do and ghettoized the efforts, even gave the work a suitably boogeyman-style moniker in “torture porn.” Miike

Documentary ‘The Horror Crowd’ to debut at Frightfest 2020

Documentary ‘The Horror Crowd’ to debut at Frightfest 2020
Fear…the most primal of human emotions. Dracula, Frankenstein, The Wolfman… The Exorcist, Jaws, Alien. What made the creators of these films dream up the nightmares that kept us up at night? Were they as strange and twisted as their creations? And what about today’s creators of horror? Who are the minds behind the macabre of present day?

That’s the question posed by The Horror Crowd, a new revealing, intimate documentary from veteran actor insider Ruben Pla, which puts a spotlight on the dedicated nightmare-creators that form Hollywood’s horror community. Covering wide-ranging topics such as ‘Being the Weird Kid’, ‘Women in Horror’, ‘Race Relations’, ‘The Dark Side’ and ‘Film Festivals’, this fascinating insight into horror filmmaking and the movie industry features contributions from some of horror’s most innovative and renowned creators such as Oren Peli, Russell Mulcahy, Lin Shaye, Adam Robitel, Darren Lynn Bousman (Saw II), and Ernest R. Dickerson.

Saw: Every Jigsaw Killer From Worst To Best, Ranked

Saw: Every Jigsaw Killer From Worst To Best, Ranked
The Saw franchise was never one of horror’s all time greats, but it was at least respectable to some extent. For a very, very brief time at least. The original Saw met mix reviews, but has generally held up as a creative & engaging early 2000s horror film– one with a twist that still holds up to this day. Saw II wasn’t quite as solid, but a solid mystery and strong performances from both Tobin Bell & Donnie Wahlberg elevate the material.

Saw III onwards aren’t as strong, but they begin weaving together quite a narrative for the franchise. Lore and continuity became Saw’s focal point and while the quality dropped, the entertainment never waivered. To prove the franchise could really kill anyone, the original Jigsaw died at the end of Saw III, and

Syfy Channel Airing Saw Marathon This Weekend

Syfy Channel Airing Saw Marathon This Weekend
Of all the film marathons to undertake while locked in at home during a pandemic, Saw wouldn’t necessarily be on my list. Some of you may be braver (or more foolish) than I, though, and if Saw was on yours, this news ought to be useful.

As part of a day they’re dubbing “Saw and Disorder” (why is everyone riffing on the 80s of late?), the Syfy channel are broadcasting a marathon of Saw movies this Sunday the 26th, beginning with Saw II and ending with the most recent film in the series, Jigsaw.

Here’s the timetable for the telethon in full:

Saw II – 8:30-10:30Am Et/Pt

Saw III – 10:30Am-12:30Pm Et/Pt

Saw IV – 1-3Pm Et/Pt

Saw V – 3-5Pm Et/Pt

Saw VI – 5-7Pm Et/Pt

Saw Marathon Brings Jigsaw to Syfy This Sunday

Saw Marathon Brings Jigsaw to Syfy This Sunday
Would you like to play a game? Those who answered yes would do well to tune into SyFy this weekend as the network is set to air a Saw movies marathon, which will culminate with the network premiere of Jigsaw, the most recent entry in the franchise. With the upcoming sequel, Spiral: From the Book of Saw delayed indefinitely, this could be a good way for horror fans to get their fix of bloody, twisted traps.

Airing on Sunday, April 26 SyFy has put together what they are calling the Saw and Disorder marathon. This will include seven entries in the long-running and highly-successful horror franchise. Sadly, for whatever reason, James Wan's 2004 Saw, which kicked off the series, isn't being included. But starting with Saw II and leading up to the debut of Jigsaw, there will be a full day of blood to go around. Have a look at the full schedule.

Listen to Samuel L. Jackson When He Tells You ‘Motherf*ckers’ to Social Distance — Watch

Listen to Samuel L. Jackson When He Tells You ‘Motherf*ckers’ to Social Distance — Watch
Samuel L. Jackson advocated for social distancing during a video chat interview on the March 31 installment of “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” in the most Samuel L. Jackson way, which means a lot of expletives were used. Jackson teamed up with writer Adam Mansbach to put a new spin on the author’s bestselling children’s book “Go the F*ck to Sleep.” Jackson said to Kimmel, “[Adam and I] talked about what we could do remind people of social distancing and where we are in these times now. So he wrote a new poem, I read it, and we want to present it to the public right now.”

The poem is appropriately titled “Stay the F*ck at Home,” and it finds Jackson urging “motherf*ckers” around the world to stay inside and practice social distancing and self-isolation. Jackson reads: “Now, technically, I’m not a doctor/ but, motherfucker, listen when I read a poem/ So,

Leigh Whannell, Director For ‘The Invisible Man’, Signs Blumhouse Deal For Film And Television

Leigh Whannell, Director For ‘The Invisible Man’, Signs Blumhouse Deal For Film And Television
Longtime Blumhouse writer/director Leigh Whannell has signed an overall deal with Blumhouse for film and television.

Over the course of 10 years, Whannell and Blumhouse have collaborated on seven projects, including The Invisible Man, in theaters today.

The two-year, first-look deal will cover projects that Whannell proposes to write, direct or produce.

Jason Blum, Blumhouse CEO and founder, praised Whannell’s vision. “Leigh creates movies which not only build franchises but fundamentally change the landscape of their genre. After he and James Wan made Saw, it launched dozens of copycats. Their work with Blumhouse on Insidious, founded not just a franchise but dozens of classical proscenium PG-13 supernatural horror films. I have no doubt that will be true for The Invisible Man and for anything else he wants to create. I just want to be there with him when he does!”

Whannell also reflected on the deal.

“Ten years ago,

Spiral Continues Saw Legacy with an R-Rating for Bloody Violence and Torture

Spiral Continues Saw Legacy with an R-Rating for Bloody Violence and Torture
Saw 9, officially titled Spiral: From the Book of Saw, is set to arrive in theaters just in time for the summer movie season, and fans need not worry about things being toned down this time around. The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) has officially handed down an R-rating to the upcoming installment of the long-running horror franchise. That means Chris Rock should be in for a bloody, brutal ride.

The ninth entry in the Saw franchise will not be breaking tradition, as every previous movie was R-rated. It's tough to come up with violent deathtraps cooked up by a sadistic killer and have things air on the PG-13 side of the line. Luckily, Lionsgate didn't feel the need to tone things down. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. With 2017's Jigsaw grossing more than $100 million at the box office, it's certainly not broken yet. Per the MPAA, here

Spiral: From The Book Of Saw Officially Rated R For Bloody Violence And Torture

Spiral: From The Book Of Saw Officially Rated R For Bloody Violence And Torture
In what must surely be the most unsurprising (but no less reassuring) news of the day, Lionsgate’s Spiral: From The Book of Saw has officially been rated R for “sequences of grisly bloody violence and torture, pervasive language, some sexual references, and brief drug use.” Shock, horror!

Truth be told, the first-look teaser for Spiral, which is coming to us by way of Saw II producer Darren Lynn Bousman, opened up a brand new chapter in the Saw legacy, one in which Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson will be forced to follow a paper trail which may or may not lead to the dreaded Jigsaw.

So, in that respect, the presence of Rock and Jackson hints at a very different Saw movie, though longtime fans of the horror franchise needn’t worry about an identity crisis, as today’s announcement of a hard R rating for Spiral

Saw Gets a Star-Studded Reboot With Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson's Spiral

If you were ever worried that you'd never see another Saw film, rest easy horror fans: the franchise continues! The first trailer for Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson's reboot titled Spiral dropped on Feb. 5, and it's pretty dark.

The ninth film in the gory series follows Detective Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks (Rock) and his rookie partner William Schenk (The Handmaid's Tale actor Max Minghella) as they investigate a grisly murderer who is specifically targeting police officers. Set in the same world as the original movies and directed by Darren Lynn Bousman, the reboot's trailer highlights an odd spiral design that decorates every crime scene and is reminiscent of the original Jigsaw killer's mark. As Zeke and William delve deeper into the mystery, working in the shadow of Jackson's police veteran character, they fall prey to the sick machinations similar to the previous films. In the final moments of the trailer,

Saw 9 Trailer Arrives: Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson Enter the World of Spiral

Saw 9 Trailer Arrives: Chris Rock and Samuel L. Jackson Enter the World of Spiral
Samuel L. Jackson and Chris Rock are in for a world of hurt in Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the ninth chapter in the Jigsaw saga. This latest sequel, which is technically Saw 9, is changing the franchise slightly while keeping the same aesthetic and even the same director from Saw II, Saw III, and Saw IV, with Darren Lynn Bousman at the helm.

The first footage from Saw 9 is ominous and dark, laced with a brittle layer of humor as promised by Chris Rock. Things go South when it is discovered that cops are being targeted this time out. Who is behind these killings? Chris Rock's Detective Ezekiel "Zeke" Banks is about to find out, as we see him chained up, his only means of escape is to saw one of his own limbs off, in a direct nod to the original Saw, which arrived in theaters as a blockbuster horror phenomenon.
