Having a Sonic racing game on the go sounds awesome, and this game is just that with some major drawbacks. The visuals look great for an 8-bit console, as everything is colorful and full of personality. The music in this game is awesome too, as it is somewhat reminiscent of previous Sonic games, while still sounding fresh. The tracks are decent, as they're pretty much what one would expect from a racing spinoff, but they're pretty awesome here. The gameplay though, is what this game trails behind. This game has the most flawed gameplay I have ever played in a racing game. One being the fact that you must turn before you reach the turn in each race for some reason, as if you try to turn right when you reach the turn, you will fly off the track and lose the race. This alone makes racing in this game incredibly unfair. Also, the racing itself isn't as fun one might expect, especially in a Sonic game. It's not too bad, as it can be alright once you get the hang of things, but everything just feels like it's on autopilot at times. This game is definitely not great and i'm not sure if I can really recommend it to anyone, as the flaws make a lot of other racing games much better. Despite the colorful visuals, awesome music, and occasionally okay racing, this game is never really more than mediocre.
