Old Michael, the bootblack, falls ill. The rich landlord threatens to evict him. Sammy, the landlord's son, is moved at the distress of Michael's wife, and, to secure money, takes Michael's blacking kit and goes out on the street soliciting work. The elegance of his attire attracts a crowd, among whom is his father. When he discovers the reason of his son's actions he is overwhelmed with regret at his hard-heartedness, and atones for it by rendering substantial financial assistance to old Michael.
