Suggested MPAA Rating: PG-13 for sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images
The film contains a fairly dark tone. The film tackles a variety of very dark themes such as genocide, fascism, political and personal corruption, ideological fanaticism, spirituality, immortality, murder and torture, depression and trauma, infidelity, discrimination, prejudice, and bigotry, war and war atrocities, terrorism, wrongful imprisonment, adolescent sexuality, the loss of innocence, abuse, inbreeding, and rape. Sexuality is a bit more heightened and pervasive, with passionate kissing and some risqué themes, and violence, while not often graphic, is sometimes bloody, often upsetting, dark, disturbing, horrific, and/or tragic.
The film utilizes horror effects not uncommon in Harry Potter films including hip-hop edits, jump scares, dark and gloomy cinematography, sometimes bloody violence, frightening creatures, gritty and ominous settings, and frightening, bleak, and creepy music and sound effects.
