Storyline
The murder of high-school student Lilly Kane shook the seaside town of Neptune, California to the core. For once popular girl Veronica Mars, it meant the loss of her best friend and being ousted from the affluent crowd that she once thought were her friends. Her father, Sheriff Keith Mars, found himself voted out of his job after making some unpopular accusations about the murdered girl's family. In response, Keith opened his own private detective agency. Now, Veronica, with her sardonic wit and a few new friends, works as his assistant while also navigating life as a high school (and later college) student.

Trivia
Rob Thomas had originally wanted a very middle-American dad to play against the wealthy beach town folk of Neptune and included a line in the original pilot script in which Keith (
Enrico Colantoni) talked about driving around Omaha as a 20-year-old. The line was changed to driving around Schenectady after Enrico was cast, as Thomas didn't think he looked very Nebraskan. The Schenectady line did not appear in the finished pilot, however, and years later the original Omaha line was included as part of the second Veronica Mars book, Mr. Kiss and Tell.

Goofs
Veronica's (Kristen Bell) dog, Backup, changes after the pilot episode, Veronica Mars: Pilot (2004). The dog in the pilot is a brown American Pit Bull Terrier but was recast for the rest of the series. This was done to avoid dealing with Backup One's dog trainer, as their lack of preparation for the pilot shoots delayed production a lot.

All the articles about Veronica Mars make you think that it's a good, well-made show.
Sadly this is far from the truth. Except for a few cute moments, that show is annoying, boring and frankly mildly offensive.
I really wish UPN would have spent all that time and attention on Jake 2.0 which, even if far from perfect, was the last show that actually had something to offer. It had life, which Veronica Mars sadly lacks and it had interesting characters, in comparison to Veronica Mars's clichés masquerading as real characters.
It's time for UPN to stop wasting its time and money and move on and take some chances on something a lot more interesting.
