A melodramatic path that is somewhat out of the ordinary
Marion Leonard plays in this picture's early scenes a young woman struggling to earn a livelihood by writing stories. The plot takes a melodramatic path that is somewhat out of the ordinary as showing a phase of modern literary life not often pictured. This fact takes it out of the usual experience of common people and consequently blunts a little the edge of sympathy that the average spectator will feel for it. Miss Leonard does much to counterbalance this defect; but coming to the plain truth, the picture is not convincing and, with all its excellencies, is not very effective. - The Moving Picture World, August 31, 1912
