I recently rented "Fun & Fancy Free" and frankly was disappointed in this Disney film. It really was NOT a feature film in any sense except length, as it really consisted of stringing together two short cartoons (one good, one quite lame) and releasing them as a feature. But, the story of how and why this was made as well as the path to it coming to the theaters WAS very interesting and well worth seeing. In particular, unlike most 'making of' featurettes I have seen on DVD, this one actually had a lot of amazing content. Usually, when such a film is assembled many decades after the initial release, so many of the stars of the film have died that there really isn't much to say. Here, however, the film makers managed to uncover a huge quantity of very interesting archival footage--real treasures. For example, animation and sketches of earlier versions of characters, missing segments and alternate sequences are shown and made "Fun & Fancy Free" much more entertaining. This sort of film is exactly what such shorts SHOULD be. Great job by all.
