Storyline

Twenty years ago, Earl Piatowski walked out on his wife, Puppy. They were in love, but he was restless; he left her for the independence, opportunity and romance of a life on the road among our towns and highways. Now, one sale away from a lifetime achievement award, he ís assigned the same small town where he and Puppy married, and even though he has been in thousands of towns just like this one, Earl isn't immune to the emotional implications. Few people are as lucky, or as unlucky, to witness what their lives would have been had they made different decisions Earl & Puppy takes this journey, explores the consequences of Earl's choice and pursues ideals like independence and achievement which so deeply influenced his life. Touching, magnetic and poetic
17 November 2004 | by See all my reviews

It's rare to see a short film that leaves such a lasting impression.

Earl & Puppy focused on Earl's search for his romanticized lost love, Puppy, and the ramifications of pursuing a dream. The storytelling perfectly captured the struggle between the quest for independence and the longing for comfort and safety - in an exquisitely told piece. The music was subtle and moving - and after watching it at a film festival, I wished I was in my living room watching it on DVD to replay the dream-like slow motion scene with the children playing in the yard.

The writing was poignant, the acting impeccable, and the directing flawless. This is a filmmaker to watch - I'm anxiously awaiting Jeff Seymann's feature film debut.
