The movie deals with the real life story of East German singer and writer Gerhard Gundermann and his struggles with music, life as a coal miner and his dealings with the secret police (STASI) of the GDR.
This documentary takes us to four different people's different ways right through the very highs and lows of what it means to become a professional actor at the Ernst Busch Academy, Berlin, Germany. A very intense, very emotional movie which leaves nothing undisclosed but remains fair towards the persons featured in the end. "You need to be a bit mad for this kind of job" one of the students says -- "It is existentially necessary for me to play" says another.
"Die Spielwütigen" won the audience's award at the 54th international movie festival in Berlin. Some of the questions covered are: What is success? What's the price one pays? What do they want to make out of my life? What do I want to make out of my life?
