Ridiculous
iamfallen55521 January 2015
I have quite enjoyed this title, despite some of the ridiculous scenarios (it is a super hero show so I can overlook some stuff). But this episode simply showcases poor writing in favor of "tense" situations. Why is it that a gun that shoots "cold/fire" is able to move faster than a man that can supposedly move so fast that time essentially stands still? Also, why in the world would it take The Flash to stop these guys? You have a police squad who knows what they are up against, and they literally all just walk slowly towards the bad guys with riot shields? Why didn't you place a few riot shields up front and have a few of your good shooters further back to take them out? There are real people that use flamethrowers to attack people, and we don't need a superhero to take them down. They're actually a very easy target. And then at the end of the episode, you set up an entire perimeter for Flash to fight these guys? The bad guys were literally STANDING THERE and the police didn't just shoot them in the back? Overall, very poor writing just to make The Flash look needed.

Ehhh?
From-DK-with-love7 February 2019
Warning: Spoilers
What did I just watch? Some kind of lame TV Show written by a 4 year old?

2 villains with no superpowers. Flash in trouble?! Why in earth didn't he just remove their guns, with his superspeed? Why did the police not just shoot them? Explosion was no larger than a small firecracker. I could go on.....

Skip this episode :-)

Bad Writing
rouwdouwer6 May 2015
Warning: Spoilers
So, the Flash can run through two goons with hi-tech guns, but can't trip them up? Or punch them? Or take their guns?

Aside from the whole sad feelings thing the episode had going, the fight with Cold and Heatwave was so disappointing it hurt.

I usually refrain from writing these things. It's not even that the show is bad, it's just that people don't react this way. A full- force police squad confronts two guys with silly guns and no one shoots? Oh, one of em shoots, and in a display of Eastwood marksmanship shoots one of the silly guns. We all seen enough police bravery last year i.r.l. to know policemen aren't that virtuous when it comes to shooting at perceived dangers. Then the last showdown, not a single sniper? Go watch Flashpoint (no pun intended). Even the Canadian strategical unit takes along a sniper every other mission.

This show is decent enough. The last few episodes in particular (except the Firestorm bit, which was cringeworthy). This one is just bad writing. Really bad writing. Hope it picks up.

Worst episode of the season
ibrahim-a-y21 October 2015
Warning: Spoilers
Oh dear god! This was the absolute worst episode so far. I don't know what the writers were thinking, I mean sure you may need the flash to take on meta-humans, but the villains in this episode were normal people, and I'm pretty sure that the police have taken on bad people before. There were police almost everywhere, and the villains were literally surrounded, but no police officer shot? They could've had a sniper in one of the buildings and he could've taken them both down, but only the flash could take them down with his really smart idea. They may have had super guns, but they weren't super humans, a shot to the head would've killed them. And don't get me started about the explosion. seriously, that explosion wouldn't have killed a baby. AWFUL AWFUL WRITING

Oh, the pain of bad writing.
mixx8610 April 2015
Warning: Spoilers
I give this episode a 3 due to it having The Flash in it.

I understand that this show, just as The Arrow, have limited funding, is a TV show, and is produced at breakneck speed by a gang of enthusiasts severely controlled by a bunch of execs, but even under such circumstances it is actually possible to create something approaching watchable.

This episode was cringe worthy. I usually bury my face in a pillow as soon as 'feelings' are mentioned in this series. In this ep. it came up a lot of times - 'Oh, I confessed my feelings...' 'You should talk about your feelings for her...' 'Oh, crash and burn when I explained my feelings...' I mean, who talks like this? Nobody! Interspersed between the feelings-drivel we get some of the worst 'tension-building' with a laughable fight between The Flash and a couple of idiotically written bad guys, surrounded by even more stupid policemen bearing shields and unused guns that could end the fight in 2 seconds.

I seriously hope the series will improve. I want super-speed, heavy hitting bad guys and cool crimes in need of a stopping. I want marvellous science. What I don't want is an endless teen-angsty pusflood of feelings.

Stupid Writing
tero-j-ojala24 January 2016
Warning: Spoilers
I cannot fathom why anyone could give this episode more that 3 stars. Really stupid episode, the "evil genius"-villain Snart could be ended by regular bullet in first 15 minutes of the show. There is no body armor, ice-gun is just ridiculous. Normal gun would be more harmful (speed and range).

There are literally 100 more logical ways to end these two moron- villains than "crossing the beams"-strategy. You could just shoot them during their stupid monologues. Or drive over them. Or if you feel really pacifistic, use tear gas and disarm them (they do not have any gas-masks).

But no! Police needs the Flash for it. And Flash can outrun a bullet & missile in previous episode, but now he cannot outrun a really slow looking ice/fire-beam?! Come on! In previous episodes Flash literally takes clothes off a mugger and brings police officer next to him, all in the blink of the eye. Why he just does not do the same to the villains? Take stupid guns in fraction of a second.

And also this episode is full of "feelings" and step-dad is really annoying again. Why the h**l can't Flash do something different than helping the incompetent police for a while?

The disappointing return of a disappointing villain.
amdarmy24 October 2015
In the comics, Snart may be an iconic villain, but in the show, all I can think the entire time is... "why is he a threat?". His superpower is owning a short range gun that happens to have unique ammunition; but ammunition, if anything, less dangerous than standard bullets. Barry could disarm him and beat him to a pulp faster than Snart could pull the trigger, taking him out with absolute minimal effort or risk. There is absolutely zero reason for the Snart story arc to last more than the half second it takes Barry to deal with him. He's unbelievable as a threat. It makes any part of the show where he's the primary motivator tedious rather than entertaining.

His partner is simply more of the same, another unbelievably harmless cliché.

Quietly disappearing them, never to be seen again, is an option to consider.

What should really happen though, seeing as Snart's an important part of the comics, is that he gets more dangerous. Give him some tech that actually makes him a plausible threat. Give him some serious body armor and a predictive targeting system. Or a cold field that makes him dangerous to approach. Just something, anything that makes him dangerous.

As of right now, I'm really tempted to just go do something else when I see that he's part of an episode.

Runs Hot and Cold
Fluke_Skywalker9 April 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Ten episodes in and we already have our second appearance from Captain Cold. That's okay, though, because A.) Anything is better than a freak of week baddie and, 2.) Captain Cold (Wentworth Miller) is a lot of fun. He's joined here by Heat Wave, and together they take aim at The Flash. The latter is initially convinced by Dr. Ulterior Motive (AKA Dr. Wells) to let the police worry about the hot/cold duo and focus on getting faster so that he can be ready for the next appearance of Yellow Flash (AKA Reverse Flash).

The crux of the episode (or more accurately, Barry's lesson of the week) is that you can't selectively be a hero. Such things give each episode a nice little arc and provide a hero moment for our, well, hero. The relationship drama between Barry and Iris takes another step when Iris moves in with Eddie and the latter saves Barry's life. I like that Eddie is a good man because it would've been so easy to make him a sleazeball that we're rooting against. Here we want Barry and Iris together, but we want to see Eddie happy too.

Fun villain + solid story = another winner for 'The Flash'.

The Fastest Man Alive, with a little bit of Frost and Fire
SpoodermanDerp21 January 2015
The Flash returns with "Revenge of the Rogues" after a mid-season break, however Captain Cold also makes a return to Central City with a new friend who is named Heat Wave that now has the flamethrower for a weapon. But does Frost and Fire make up for a great episode?

The whole cast does a great job on doing their part to make this show entertaining and worthwhile while also returning the light-hearted feel of the whole show. Grant Gustin remains intact and joyful to watch as The Flash, Dr. Wells also remain to be mysterious and quite menacing, and the supporting cast such as Cisco, Caitlin, Iris and Detective Joe are still great in each of their respective roles. I was rather looking forward to the return of Captain Cold and the introduction of Heat Wave, however they felt like ordinary and mediocre villains with cheesy and clichéd dialogue throughout the episode. The episode is also filled with clichés that sometimes make you want to yawn or skip the scene sometimes because it just flat out becomes predictable on what happens next. The visuals, which I was rather worried of because it might've loss its quality, also remained intact and stunning just like the previous episodes. The action didn't lose it's way and were still entertaining to watch. The Iris and Barry (which I am now calling) forced relationship makes a return which I now treated as a hint that you could now stand up to get a drink or refill your snack. Towards the end of the episode, I hope it was a sign that the Iris and Barry relationship would finally end because if it makes a return then it will just be super annoying already.

Overall, a mediocre episode but still entertaining nonetheless if you want to pass the time. +Cast performance, -Mediocre and Clichéd villains, -Predictable episode, +Visuals, +Action, -Iris and Barry forced relationship, +That end credits scene which teases a new character to watch out for.

Verdict: 7.4/10

I Hope We're Not Enemies
ThomasDrufke20 January 2015
So the Flash has returned and much like Arrow's first two seasons, the first episode after the winter break was just okay. The Flash isn't the fastest man alive anymore as we now know of the Reverse Flash but his intentions are still unclear, as is his identity. I still think there is more to Harrison Wells' character. This show still has a ton of mystery surrounding what the second half of the season will have to offer but I'm nevertheless excited it's finally back.

Barry is now struggling with the famous superhero dilemma of trying to pay attention to all crime while also figuring out who the bigger threat is and how to balance the two. He also has to take down Captain Cold who makes his return to the show and once again doesn't have clear motivations. That's one of the problems so far this season is that most villains haven't had believable enough intentions to make me invested in the story lines. The Flash had plenty of help from his crew this week including giving Cisco the duty of presenting the defense weapon to the police force. To me it just seems like you would give somebody with more credibility or better presentation skills. I was also puzzled as to why the police would give back those weapons to Cisco and Star Labs, who just nearly killed thousands of people only a year ago.

Wells didn't play a huge part in this episode but he did have a few great scenes with Detective West and Barry. I have a feeling we are in for something big with Joe West and Wells by the end of the season. Their rivalry is building up well. And Wells' "I hope were not enemies" scene was just as revealing. I could be crazy but what if somehow Harrison Wells is actually Barry from the future? It's extremely far fetched but it would explain why he wants to keep Barry safe.

It seems like every comic book villain now-in-days copies Joker's threatening video message scenes. Captain Cold did the same with Caitlin Snow, who was the weekly damsel in distress, and it didn't do much for me. His character was interesting the first time but his relationship with Heat Wave felt pretty dull. I also didn't think the effects this week were all that great, especially the heat and cold guns. It was a solid episode with just a few very stupid character decisions. Panabaker has been a bright spot on the show so far but her storyline this week felt out of place. By the way was that a Batman comic Barry pulled out of his bag at his place?

+Great Barry, Detective West, and Wells scenes

+Panabaker

+Wells & Barry "aren't" enemies

+Easter eggs

-Weird and irrational character decisions

-Why is Cisco getting these responsibilities?

-Cool villains turned out to be stupid

Casting just made this show interesting
willz18721 January 2015
With the addition of 'Prison Break' alum team, Wentworth Miller and Dominic Purcell, this episode kind of felt like a major motion picture. Made me realize what good casting can do for a show. Every other bad guy actor on this show to date has been forgettable. Cold's and Heatwaves' powers - or lack thereof - are limited, so writers, DC genius, Geoff Johns, and team, are going to have to give us something to stay invested in.

Looks like this show is going to have it's ups and downs. This was an up. Looking forward to seeing the character, Firestorm, realized as well.

First real fun, I've had watching the Flash TV show

Ranking/Reviewing every Flash episode: Revenge of the Rogues
lbramson10 June 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Captain Cold is back! But this time he has a sidekick named Heat Wave who helps him kidnap Caitlin. This might be my least favorite so far, but that doesn't mean it's bad. The issue is we've seen all this before. Captain Cold was in Episode 5. The kidnapping over and over again was already getting stale by this point. And overall it came after one of the best of the whole series so its disappointing to put it lightly. The opening was cool but nothing else stands out as amazing tho. The worst but still pretty solid episode. The show is far from bad, heck even the worst episode is fairly good, so I think a 7.3/10 is a perfect rating for Episode 10!

Favorite Episode
sweaver-4700727 May 2015
This episode was amazing and my favorite episode of the season. Captain Cold is my favorite villain and Wentworth Miller is one of my favorite actors and for Dominic Purcell to be cast as Heat Wave just made the episode that much better. The two are great together. I loved the comic book-y feel of the episode and thought it was extremely fun and well written. The final battle of fire and ice between The Flash and the two rogues was my favorite showdown of the season besides Flash vs. Reverse Flash. The crossing of the streams of the two weapons was great as well and made for an extremely entertaining end. I loved everything about this episode and how Snart and Rory differed personality wise. Great casting, Great writing, Great episode. 10/10
