Taylor Swift gave fans both a physical and virtual surprise on Tuesday night: those lucky enough to be inside Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium caught a performance of “All Too Well,” the 10-minute version; while those online learned the title of a new song. “Mastermind” will appear on Swift’s upcoming album Midnights, due Oct. 21.
Swift posted the title reveal at midnight, naturally, via TikTok, in a playful new series dubbed Midnights Mayhem With Me. Using a “technologically advanced device” (bingo ball cage), Swift picked one of 13 ping-pong balls corresponding to...

Quill: The Life of a Guide Dog, the well-received 2004 Japanese drama movie, concerns the life, growth and training of the titular Golden Labrador Retriever.
Directed by Yoichi Sai, the film opens with Quill as a puppy and follows him as he is taken to a professional guide dog school led by the friendly yet firm trainer Satoru Tawada (Kippei Shiina).
Although he’s a little slower than the other dogs at the school, Quill does exhibit a peerless level of devotion and patience for his trainers. Tawada decides that Quill would be the ideal guide dog for Mitsuru Watanabe (Kaoru Kobayashi), a lonely and ill-tempered elderly man who “would rather sleep than be dragged around by a dog.”
In time, Quill gradually helps his new master to open up and appreciate life, while Wanatabe learns not only to trust and...

“What sets this film above so many movies about animals is that it's about a dog who is realistic in every aspect.” – Roger Ebert, said in the Chicago Sun Times. As big dog lovers we're happy to present a clip from the film, "Quill: The Life Of A Guide Dog." Directed by Yoichi Sai (4 time Japanese Academy Award winner for "Blood And Bones"), 'Quill' appears to be a documentary on the surface, but it's based on the true story of a beautiful labrador retriever whose compassion and devotion transform him into a dedicated guide dog for the blind.
Here's the official synopsis.
Quill, a Golden Labrador Retriever puppy so named because of the feather-shaped birthmark on his side, is sent to live with a couple, Isamu (Teruyuki Kagawa) and Mitsuko (Shinobu Terajima), who work as volunteers for the training of seeing eye guide dogs. Quill is subsequently taken...

Ah, ninjas. Who doesn’t love ‘em? Well, except those pesky pirate lovers of course. For those that can’t get enough of ‘em, here’s a new trailer for an upcoming Ninja flick called ‘Kamui’, based on the ‘Legend of Kamui’ mangas which began in the mid 60’s. Directed by Yoichi Sai (helmer of ‘Blood and Bones’ and ‘Quill’) and starring Ken’ichi Matsuyama (’Death Note’, heck of a movie), this promises plenty of drama and action done in a way only the Japanese can pull off. The film is set for release in Japanese theaters on the 19th of September. No word on any Us release though, but I’ll be keeping an eye on this one.

Japan distribs at record clip in '04
Through the first six months of 2004, Japan's eleven major local and foreign film distribution companies have grossed more than ¥91 billion ($823 million), according to figures released recently by Shochiku, the country's second-ranked distributor-producer. The record half-year result --fueled by such offshore titles as Finding Nemo, The Last Samurai, and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, as well as local hits like Quill and Casshern -- would seem to indicate that country's full-year figures will easily surpass last year's boxoffice total of just more than $1 billion, which was based on Motion Picture Assn. estimates. Toho has the No. 1 market share, followed by Shochiku, which said it accounted for approximately 18% of boxoffice receipts.
