This is the only Open Season film to have a theatrical release. It's sequels Open Season 2 (2008) and Open Season 3 (2010) were not released theatrically, instead being released straight-to-dvd, which both only took 2 years to make.

Matthew Taylor who voiced Buddy and Deni would later take over Patrick Warburton and Jon Favreau as Ian and Reilly respectively in the straight-to-DVD sequels, as well as Elliot in Open Season 3 (2010) and the Open Season video games. He'd even go under the additional voices in various later Sony Animation films (except for Surf's Up (2007) and Angry Birds (2016) where he was outside the additional voices for who he voiced in those films).
