Eiff 2018: ‘Blood Fest’ Review

Stars: Robbie Kay, Jacob Batalon, Seychelle Gabriel, Jacob Batalon, Barbara Dunkelman, Tate Donovan, Zachary Levi | Written and Directed by Owen Egerton

Produced by popular YouTube outfit Rooster Teeth, Blood Fest aims to follow in the footsteps of self-aware meta horrors like Scream and Cabin in the Woods. Unfortunately, while there’s no doubting the filmmakers’ evident love for the genre, the end result isn’t nearly as funny or as clever as it thinks it is.

After a generic slasher movie prologue in which a young boy sees his mother get killed by a masked maniac, we’re introduced to horror-loving Dax (Robbie Kay) and his best buddies Sam (Seychelle Gabriel) and Krill (Jacob Batalon), who are desperate to attend horror festival Blood Fest, against the wishes of Dax’s strict father (Tate Donovan), who blames the genre for his wife’s (i.e. Dax’s mother’s) murder in the prologue.

First Shazam Trailer to Strike Down at Comic-Con?

The upcoming DC movie Shazam! is currently slated to release in April 2019, but no promotional work has been released just yet for the movie. Fortunately, DC fans may get their first glimpse of the movie next month at San Diego Comic Con.

James Wan, who is directing Aquaman, which releases in December, revealed that the first trailer for his aquatic superhero movie will also debut at San Diego Comic Con. DC tends to try to release more than one trailer at San Diego Comic Con every year, so it wouldn't be too surprising to see a Shazam! trailer release as well. DC has made a tradition of making a huge splash at San Diego Comic Con every year, with a number of huge announcements, in addition to the trailers. Considering that Marvel Studios will be absent from the Comic Con this year, there will certainly be a gap that DC

BuzzFeed’s Newest Web Series Is ‘Mythbusters’ For The Beauty World

BuzzFeed is putting the magic of Disney to the test. Some of the most fanciful moments from Mouse House films will be examined in Bogus Beauty, a new series that brings the Mythbusters approach to the world of beauty.

In each episode of Bogus Beauty, hosts Chrissy Mahlmeister and Selorm Kploanyi tackle a specific idea propagated by a Disney film. For example, can you actually pull someone up into the air using your hair, as Rapunzel does in the Disney flick Tangled? In the first installment of Bogus Beauty, Mahlmeister and Kploanyi find that feat to be harder than it looks.

Pearl Studio Forges Its Own Animated Path

With a slate of projects already in play and a partnership with one of animation’s most acclaimed directors, Pearl Studio is striving to create family entertainment with a global reach.

New Wreck-It Ralph 2 Trailer Parties with Disney Princesses
The new trailer for Wreck-It Ralph 2 is here and it puts more focus on Sarah Silverman's Vanellope von Schweetz this time around. John C. Reilly's titular character is shown off quite a bit along with some new characters, but Vanellope steals the show when she meets up with all of the Disney Princesses, who seem to be more than a little bitter. This is the same footage that fans were shown at the D23 Expo last summer and proved to be pretty popular, especially when all of the surviving voices of the Disney Princesses appeared on stage together.

In the new trailer for Ralph Breaks the Internet, Vanellope along with her best friend Ralph, venture into the world of the internet through an ethernet cable in the Litwak's Video Arcade. There's many good scenes in the new footage, but the best has to be when Vanellope finds herself

Disney Vs. Pixar Tournament Bracket Causes Chaos on Twitter

March Madness is in the air, and not only for college basketball. A new bracket that puts Disney movies up against Pixar movies has turned into utter chaos online from fans arguing and discussing the problem with certain brackets. Over the years, March Madness has been spreading outside of the sports world, turning into memes and other lighthearted jokes, but the Disney and Pixar crowd are taking this bracket very seriously and it's slowly tearing the internet apart.

A Twitter user by the name of AP posted the Disney Vs. Pixar bracket last week, which has now been shared nearly 45,000 times as of this writing and has a conversation (or argument) of almost 100,000 comments. The blank bracket puts some Disney classics, with the oldest being The Little Mermaid, up against some of Pixar's most beloved tales. One of the main arguments is that the bracket does not contain any of Disney's pre-Little Mermaid classics,

Oscar Isaac and Olivia Wilde Experience ‘Life Itself’ in First Trailer

After mostly focusing on animation, scripting Tangled, Bolt, Cars, and more, Dan Fogelman jumped into live-action with Crazy, Stupid, Love., and then soon followed with his directorial debut Danny Collins, a good-natured, affable showcase for Al Pacino. He’s now returning this fall with Life Itself–no relation to Roger Ebert–starring Oscar Isaac, Olivia Wilde, Mandy Patinkin, Olivia Cooke, Laia Costa, Annette Bening and Antonio Banderas.

Following a trailer debut on This is Us, Fogelman’s hit show, Amazon Studios has released the preview online. The story follows multiple generations and feels a bit like a more conventional version of Cloud Atlas with a heart-on-its-sleeve, wide-reaching scope. Still, Fogelman has proved that he can take on schmaltz with a certain charm, so hopefully that’s the case here. See the preview below.

Life Itself opens on September 21.
