  • Variety
The $120 million multinational disaster movie “Inversion” leads a slate of two feature films and a TV series from Hong Kong-Chinese producer and financier Sun Entertainment Culture (Sunec). The two movies mark Sun’s English-language film debut.

Founded in 2011, Sunec has been involved in Hong Kong-Chinese co-productions such as 2017’s “Paradox” and 2015’s “Spl II: A Time for Consequences,” starring Wu Jing. Red Stewart chats with Second Act director Peter Segal

Peter Segal is an American filmmaker who has been working in the film and television industries since the late-80s. He is best known for his projects like the Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult, The Longest Yard, and Get Smart.

His latest movie was the romantic comedy Second Act, which Flickering Myth had the chance to interview him about and I in turn had the honor to conduct:

Mr. Segal, thank you so much for taking the time to speak with me sir. It’s an honor.

Oh absolutely, thank you.

To start with, when reading your biography I noticed that you double majored in broadcast journalism and English, which is interesting because I’ve noticed other film directors like Orson Welles and Christopher Nolan didn’t pursue film as their university major either. I’m wondering, how different do

Disney, Paramount & More Hit With Concussion Suit From Stuntman Estate
The life of The Longest Yard and Invincible stuntman Darryl Hammond ended in 2017 with the ex-Arena football player suffering from severe head trauma but today his family went after the Walt Disney Company, Paramount, Columbia as well as the Arena Football League (Afl) for negligence, wrongful death and more.

In a jury-seeking, multi-claim complaint, Hammond’s widow and children want wide-ranging but unspecified damages from the defendants for “willfully and intentionally” concealing from the player/stuntman the risks and consequences of such “repetitive head impacts” and “concussions” as sustained over the years.

According to the suit, Hammond was a player in the Afl from approximately 1991-2016 and “suffered symptoms of brain injury” from the head impacts during Afl football games. During this time, he also starred in two feature films. In 2004, he was a stunt double for Paramount and Columbia’s remake of The Longest Yard starring Adam Sandler where

Exclusive: Existence, a survival story based on a screenplay by Anthony Jaswinski who penned the hit thriller The Shallows, will be directed by Brad Anderson (The Machinist) and produced by Tucker Tooley Entertainment. The harrowing story was inspired by the 1981 ill-fated shipwreck of a research vessel that became marooned after a typhoon on a remote island — the North Sentinel Island –in the Indian Ocean.

Upon exploring the terrain, the surviving crew encounters multiple terrors not only from the forces of nature but also from a sect of people who have existed in a primal state for about 60,000 years. Widely considered to be the last remaining Pre-Neolithic society on Earth, the North Sentinelese tribesmen have successfully saved themselves from extinction by exercising their right to resist all integration with the outside world – avoiding the catastrophic violence and disease that such contact has historically brought to other indigenous people.

Second Act is a comedy in the vein of Working Girl and Maid In Manhattan. Jennifer Lopez stars as Maya, a 40-year-old woman struggling with frustrations from unfulfilled dreams. Until, that is, she gets the chance to prove to Madison Avenue that street smarts are as valuable as book smarts, and that it is never too late for a Second Act.

Peter Segal director of such comedic juggernauts in Get Smart, The Longest Yard and Nutty Professor II: The Klumps follows on from his latest 2013 semi-dramatic comedic boxing film Grudge Match with a Jennifer Lopez feministic inspired dramedy Second Act.
