Originally Kashmera Shah was set to play the role of Alisha until she was convinced by the director, Rajeev Virani, that "she was definitely his Reena!"
The movie was shot in 35mm with synch (live) sound at over 70 locations throughout Bombay and also Los Angeles. Crowd control in one of the worlds largest populated cities was a nightmare especially since the film includes action chase sequences in the city streets and dance numbers.
In the film, My Bollywood Bride, the main character of 'Alex' (played by Jason Lewis) was named after Alejandro Junger (Alex) as a tribute. The real Alex is a LA based cardiologist that traveled often to India and inspired the writer/producer, Brad Listermann, to take a major interest in India and all things Indian.
