Storyline

Nine Icelandic gay teens tell us about their lives in their frozen corner of the world. Feeling excluded, experimenting with drugs and sex, finding others like themselves, self hatred, thoughts of suicide, coming out to parents. These honest interviews show us that no matter where they are in the world many aspects of being gay are universal. Written by Havan_IronOak@Bigfoot.com

Some fears are universal
13 April 2004 | by Havan_IronOakSee all my reviews

In this interesting documentary we hear from 9 teens from Iceland who have come out as gay. It was quite interesting to me that the problems and the fears experienced by these teens today in a country so foreign to me were not dissimilar from my own long ago in the USA.

What WAS different was that the parents in all cases were much more clued in and accepting than parents in the States seem to be, even today. The only kid who suffered any rejection in this film was one who was not interviewed but who had been born and raised in America before returning to Iceland.

The film maker was at the screening in London where I saw this and said that they had arranged for a copy of this film to be given to every school in Iceland. (It's shown as part of a social studies curriculum) I only wish that in America this type of thing was as easily accepted. I also wish that kids coming out in the states had access to this film so that they would see that they are NOT alone.
