Quinn Scharn had just one thing on his mind after waking up from the surgery that cost him his right leg: “I want a dog with three legs.”
Scharn had learned at 10 that bone cancer was threatening his leg and hip. (This was Scharn’s second go-round with the disease; he survived it as a baby.) Within months, he was heading into the operating room for an amputation.
That was two years ago. This month, Scharn, how cancer-free, found Logan, a three-legged dog at the Front Street Animal Shelter in Sacramento, California,

'Tis the season to annoy everyone by using "'tis the season" way too many times when talking about holiday stuff. Halloween hasn't even happened yet, but the Christmas decorations are already taking over drug stores so ABC is just going ahead and announcing its 2015 holiday lineup. It's something to look forward to after the candy is gone, anyway, and since the "Toy Story 20th Anniversary Special" and "It's Your 50th Christmas, Charlie Brown" are involved, you should definitely mark your calendars.
Here's a chronological list of holiday programming highlights, via ABC:
Friday, November 27
"Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town" - In the perennial favorite created in 1970 by Rankin-Bass Productions ("Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Frosty the Snowman"), Fred Astaire narrates this timeless tale of Kris Kringle (Mickey Rooney), a young boy with an immense desire to do good things for others. The vocal cast features Mickey Rooney as Kris Kringle, Keenan Wynn as Winter,...

Diamonds are a dog's best friend, too. It took six years, but Lois Matykowski's missing diamond wedding ring finally reappeared when her 10-year-old Rottweiler mix, Tucker, swallowed a popsicle stick this month, according to ABC News. The Wisconsin pooch - known affectionately to his family as the "food burglar" - wolfed down a popsicle and its stick, which prompted Matykowski to call her veterinarian. The vet suggested feeding the dog bread with Vaseline to help bring up the stick. Eventually, the stick came back up, and it worked so well that, two days later, Tucker coughed up something much more sentimental: Matykowski's wedding ring,...

Britain's Got Talent star Amanda Holden has revealed that she fought for her daughter to star in the show's trailer - because no other child is as "gorgeous".
The video, which focuses on the fact that the judges are now all parents, stars both Holden's daughter Hollie and Alesha Dixon's toddler Azura.
Speaking to Digital Spy at the opening night of I Can't Sing!, Holden explained that she and Dixon were unimpressed when they heard that kids were being cast to play their daughters.
"Hollie was in it because my agent saw that they were trying to cast Amanda Holden's child and Alesha Dixon's child and we both went, 'There aren't any children as gorgeous as our children, so you need to just have our children'," she revealed. "They were brilliantly behaved."
She added that while Hollie might have caused mischief in the trailer, she is "beautiful" in real life,...

If A&E hoped suspending Duck Dynasty star Phil Robertson would quiet the controversy over the bigoted and ignorant statements he made in a GQ profile, they got the opposite effect. The show became a culture war battlefield, as Sean Hannity gave radio listeners A&E’s phone number telling them to call and GLAAD receiving “violently angry phone calls and social media posts“.
The NAACP put out a letter with the Hrc, which seems to have gotten the media to pay attention to Robertson’s racially insensitive comments in addition to his homophobic ones. Meanwhile, the rest of the Robertson clan put out a statement saying they can’t imagine continuing the show without Phil Robertson.

Renee was worried about safety on "Mob Wives," so she decided it was probably time she got an attack dog for the house. "I want a dog that’s going to kill you," she told Big Ang.
"If that’s what make you feel better, then do it," Ang told her.
But the reaction from the other women was mixed, and sometimes hilarious. "Renee is the last person in the world that, I think, should have an attack dog, because she screams all the time," Drita said. "'Ahhh! I need spaghetti!' The dog will be paranoid all day long."
Nevertheless, the women joined Renee on a three-hour trip to a kennel to pick out a dog. Renee ultimately decided she wasn't ready for one, though. Perhaps because the owner reminded her that dogs are not bullet-proof.
Renee will just have to be her own protection for now on "Mob Wives,...

Fast national ratings for Monday, Dec. 12, 2011
The return of "Fear Factor" to NBC after a five-year absence was greeted with pretty good ratings -- and way better numbers than anything Peacock has aired on Mondays in the past couple years. CBS ended up leading the night by a wide margin, though, as it had nearly a full complement of original episodes while ABC and Fox weren't at full strength.
CBS averaged just above 12 million viewers and a 7.4 rating/11 share in households Monday night, coasting to a win over NBC (7.1 million, 4.1/6). Fox took third with 5.7 million viewers and a 3.4/5. ABC (4.3 million, 2.6/4) came in fourth, and The CW trailed with 1.4 million viewers and a 0.8/1.
The adults 18-49 win also went to CBS, which earned a 3.6 rating in the demographic. NBC's 2.6 was good for second, while Fox finished third with a 1.8. ABC averaged 1.1 and The CW 0.5.

Fear Factor, which in its last incarnation (circa winter 2005/06) was pulled from NBC’s schedule due to sagging ratings and to make room for the Friends spin-off Joey, came back with a bang this Monday night.
The stunts-and-gross-outs spectacular averaged 8.6 million total viewers over its two-hour run, while scoring a 3.4 demo rating. That represents gains of 43 and 111 percent over The Sing-Off‘s most recent performance in the time slot, and scored NBC an easy second-place status in both primetime hours.

Michael Vick may never have rescheduled that interview with Oprah Winfrey, but he's opening up yet again about his 2007 conviction and prison sentence for dog-fighting and the surprising public rehabilitation that followed.
GQ will release a full profile on Aug. 18, and, in the meantime, Deadspin has posted some of the highlights from the interview. And one thing the Philadelphia Eagles quarterback apparently makes clear is how much he's a fan of our four-legged friends.

With only a few days left until Christmas day is upon us, chances are your kids are now out of class until next year and spending their free time in some mixture of snowball fights outside and curled up in front of the television inside (we'd love for them to be reading, but we know how kids are). While the time they spend outside frolicking in the snow equates to peaceful R&R time for you parents, you can help even if out by putting in some of these high-quality Christmas classics that are guaranteed to be as entertaining for the grown-ups as they are for the kids.

Hard to believe, but it’s true: NBC scored a rare Tuesday victory in adults 18-49. In total viewers, CBS carried off the victory. Fox claimed a place in the mid-table followed by disastrous performances of ABC and The CW.
Without an original installment of Glee as opponent, NCIS averaged a stronger 19.78 million viewers and a 4.0/12 among adults 18-49 and led the field at 8pm. Compared to its performance from November 23, 2010, this was an increase of 1.00 million viewers and a tenth in the demo.
Next was Minute to Win It (7.67 million viewers; A18-49: 2.3/7), which posted gains of 690,000 viewers and 21 percent in adults 18-49 over its season two premiere a week ago. A repeat of Glee placed third, drawing 5.59 million viewers and a 2.1/6 among adults 18-49, followed by repeats of I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown (5.52 million viewers; A18-49: 1.6/5) and The Vampire Diaries (1.36 million viewers...

The season finale of the veteran reality series last night hit season highs, drawing a 4.0/11 in adults 18-49 and 11 million viewers overall. This was up 29% in 18-49 from last week in 18-49 but down 20% from the Biggest Loser fall finale last December. Vs. the spring finale in May, it was up a tenth. With Minute to Win It (2.3/7, 7.7 million) at 8 Pm up 21% from last week to score its best 18-49 rating since the show's premiere and its largest audience ever, NBC (3.4/10, 9.9 million) logged its first nightly win in 18-49 this season outside of football-dominated Sunday. It was a two-network race between NBC and CBS last night, with Fox and the CW airing wall-to-wall reruns of their flagship series Glee (2.1/6, 5.5 million) and The Vampire Diaries (0.5/1, 1.3 million), respectively,...

Fast National ratings for Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2010
CBS bounced back from last Tuesday's slightly diminished rerun numbers with the night's biggest audience -- by far. Though the final outing for Season 10 of NBC's "The Biggest Loser" did manage to fare stronger among adults 18-49.
ABC, airing a Christmas special and repeats of "No Ordinary Family" and "Detroit 1-8-7" didn't look so hot in either respect.
First place CBS averaged 16 million viewers and a 10.0 rating/16 share among households throughout the night. NBC (9.9 million, 5.8/9) came in second, with Fox (5.5 million, 3.4/5) in third, ABC (4.3 million, 2.6/4) in fourth and the CW trailing in fifth (1.3 million, 0.9/1).
NBC's 3.4 rating in the adults 18-49 demographic bested CBS (3.1), which placed second, followed by Fox (2.1), ABC (1.1) and The CW (0.5).
Tuesday hour by hour:
8 p.m.
CBS: "NCIS" (19.8 million viewers, 12.1/20 households)
NBC: "Minute to Win It" (7.7 million, 4.4/7)

Well another season of Dexter has now come and gone. Although I’ve read mixed reviews about this season I have to say that I was really entertained by it. I’m also going to not hold anything back in talking about it so if you haven’t seen it yet and plan to then be forewarned that there be spoilers abound in these waters.
This season of Dexter had the very large shoes of last season to try and fill. John Lithgow had a stellar performance as the Trinity killer in an amazing story line that shocked, amazed, and hit us with a punch in the gutt on its way out the door with the unexpected murder in the final moments.
When viewing the season’s overall story arc I think the writers did a pretty good job of delivering us a season that wasn’t too over-the-top while...

(S01E12) I want a dog butler now. Sofia Vergara managed to do so much with her simple reactions to this dog, and Jay's interactions with it, throughout this episode, she had me laughing without saying a word. In fact, this may have been one of the funniest episodes of Modern Family yet.
Misunderstanding was the theme for all three families this week. You had Gloria misunderstanding Jay and Barkley's relationship -- Barkley being the dog butler. Cameron's big heart led to all kinds of Latino insanity in their household, to Mitchell's horror, while it was Phil's fear of his wife that allowed several instances of misunderstanding in the saga of the big bare breasted tractor rider (*Ahem* It's a combine).

Welcome to another edition of TV or Not TV where I apperently beat myself to the punch.
After breaking out the family copy of It’s a Wonderful Life and sobbing uncontrollably I was ready to come here and extole the virtues of this movie that I still love after all of these years. I drafted several paragraphs talking about this movie and just when I sat down to commit them all here at Quick Stop Entertainment I discovered, to my horror, that I had already written about the movie this same time last year!
Even though I clearly was in a smiliar frame of mind this time last year I looked back at last year’s article and find that I really scratched the surface of why I enjoy this holiday classic. I talked a bit about the plot, I talked a bit about what the film means to me,...

One anecdote from a Charles M. Schulz biography I read years ago said that whenever Schulz was considering hiring someone, he would take them out to lunch and see how they salted their soup. If they salted after they tasted it, they were hired; but, if they salted before they tasted it, there was no chance. Obviously, the alleged agoraphobe was not into extras for the sake of extras. So, it's no surprise that after 2000, when Schulz passed away, executive producer Bill Melendez decided he would add no salt to his Peanuts either. He vowed that all animated specials would only be made from Schulz's already-published cartoons. The result is choppy and episodic, but I Want a Dog For Christmas, Charlie Brown is also, because of this decision, wonderfully pure, and the most worthy special since the original A Charlie Brown Christmas.

With the holidays already locked up by Peanuts adventures, Charlie Brown takes another shot at Christmas with I Want a Dog for Christmas, Charlie Brown, and true fans of the Peanuts gang are glad for the effort. Focusing on little brother Van Pelt, Rerun, the tale follows the dream of dog ownership. Rerun and Snoopy, as the curious and close friends they have become, set out to get Rerun his own dog for Christmas, even though his mom doesn't think he's responsible enough. Snoopy's brother Spike soon shows up, and Rerun becomes fixated on adopting him. The wild results are a fun-filled adventure with equal parts Peanuts charm and clever storytelling. While not the most famous Peanuts special, this is definitely one of the best. It has a bit more to the story, and doesn't rely so much on the easier gags.

Curious George. Harold and the Purple Crayon. Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel. Classics each and every one. Call it a babysitter in a box or call it a great tool for educating your children, either way what we have on our hands here is 19 hours of story books new and old converted to a digital medium. Some of these genuinely are treasures reincarnated in an animated medium while others are newer stories that have yet to prove their heirloom mettle. However, your average tot won’t care as much about the legacy of a given story as they will about the presentation. A majority of the stories found on these 16 discs have received the full animation treatment from the humble illustration origins, but there are a few in the collection which are little more than scans of the pages being panned over by the camera. Depending on the age...
