5 Mind Boggling Questions From the Manifest Pilot

If The 4400 and Lost had a love child, Manifest would be that child. The pilot opened up with a mystery that is bound to take at least the season, possibly more, to figure out. So many questions, so little answers. A good TV pilot leaves you wanting more, and that’s exactly what Manifest did. The show is enticing and intriguing. You want to know what is happening. A lot is being thrown into the hour. A lot is setting up stage for what’s to come no doubt. They wanted to capture their audience. They did that. This show mixes the best of Lost and The 4400 and gives it

Manifest Episode 1 Review: Pilot

The premise of Manifest gives the show a strong start, but the staying power of its central mystery is questionable.

TV

This review contains spoilers for Manifest.

Manifest Season 1 Episode 1

The first episode of Manifest is an exemplary pilot in some ways; the premise of an airplane time-jumping five years is engaging, and the central mystery about what has been done to the passengers is a great hook. Even though only a few characters are able to grab us emotionally from the start, the groundwork is laid for many more to pull us in as the varying stories of the passengers onboard Flight 828 unfold. It’s actually the potential crime-of-the-week plot structure that’s the main source of trepidation. Can this show sustain itself over a long period of time based only on the varied interpretations of a voice in the head, essentially saying, “If you build it, they will

Manifest Review: Is NBC's Sci-Fi Drama Another High-Concept Crash and Burn?

Manifest Review: Is NBC's Sci-Fi Drama Another High-Concept Crash and Burn?
This review comes with a letter grade attached, but there’s a caveat: A show like Manifest really can only be graded an “incomplete.” NBC’s shiny new drama — debuting on Monday, Sept. 24 at 10/9c — has an undeniably cool sci-fi premise… but we’ve been burned by those before, haven’t we? The Event, FlashForward… ever since Lost, TV’s batting average with high-concept dramas like this has been pretty dismal. Since NBC only sent out the pilot episode for review, we have no way of knowing if this show will actually fulfill its early promise — but the first hour

  • Variety
Which series from the cavalcade rolled out at the 2018 broadcast TV upfronts are poised to pop in primetime?

NBC’s new medical drama “New Amsterdam” and The CW’s reboot of “Charmed” are among the top social-media darlings of the moment, if data about their initial reception online is any indication — although sometimes, it isn’t a terrific predictor.

This year, “New Amsterdam” is showing early signs it could be a breakout hit, according to data-analytics firm ListenFirst Media. The new series ranked in the top three among all shows presented during the 2018 TV broadcast upfronts across organic conversation, social engagement, video views, and positive sentiment, as measured over the past week.

The social profile of “New Amsterdam” is “similar to the trend we saw with NBC’s ‘This Is Us’ during the 2016-17 TV upfronts season,” said Jason Klein, ListenFirst’s co-ceo. Indeed, the network has slotted “New Amsterdam” on Tuesdays at 10 p.

Emmy spotlight: Karin Konoval (‘The X-Files’) comes out from under the bed and wows audiences with new role(s)
Karin Konoval has already made her mark on “The X-Files” thanks to her iconic performances as under-the-bed villain Mrs. Peacock in “Home” and fortune teller Madame Zelma in “Clyde Bruckman’s Final Repose,” but her latest role(s) in this week’s “Plus One” could make her mark on the Emmys. As twins Judy Poundstone and Chucky Poundstone and their two dopplegangers, Konoval effortlessly portrays four complicated, quirky characters who have a telepathic link. And, oh yeah, did we mention Chucky just happens to be a man?

As we know, the Emmys love when actors take on multiple roles — just ask Tatiana Maslany who prevailed for portraying all those clones in “Orphan Black” (2016). Might Konoval earn her first career nomination at the 2018 Emmys for playing this gender-bending group of doppelgangers?

The 20 Best Sci-Fi TV Series of the 21st Century, Ranked

The 20 Best Sci-Fi TV Series of the 21st Century, Ranked
It hardly needs mentioning, but not all science-fiction is created equal. Even as a term, it’s difficult to pin down exactly what constitutes sci-fi, especially in a medium like TV that can change so much from week to week or season to season. So when we took stock of the best TV shows from the past two decades, we turned to one unimpeachable source as a guide for what we should include in our list.

Thanks, Roman.

That’s not to say that a few of the shows might have an odd sword or two, but most of what we tried to single out here imagines a world markedly different from our own. Some take place in reimagined futures, while others take a sharper focus on the present with some key, otherworldly changes.

Given the wealth of shows in this genre, we opted not to include animated or unscripted series in this particular list.

Arrow’s Talia al Ghul Will Be More Than Just A Nyssa Knock Off In Season 5

When Nyssa al Ghul was introduced in Arrow, many fans assumed that it was because The CW series was unable to use Talia. Due to the way the former was portrayed, most now look at them as pretty much the same character, hence why it came as a big surprise when we first heard that the Talia would show up in season 5. Thankfully, we can expect her to be more than just a carbon copy.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly about bringing the better known daughter of Ra’s al Ghul to Arrow, executive producer Marc Guggenheim explained that the two sisters are very different.

“She’s definitely her own person; she’s not a Nyssa clone, by any stretch. You can definitely sense a familial resemblance. Having Ra’s al Ghul as your dad, it’s likely to forge a very specific kind of person. They’re close enough and
