All the people seen online at the beginning (extras in the 3D screens) are members of the producer's immediate family.
The actress coming out of the elevator is the producer's third cousin, Chelsea Kerr. She begged for a role in the film, even a small one, after working in theatre since the age of 5 and wanting to gain some on-set experience. Her scene took almost two and a half hours to shoot, and lasted only three seconds on screen.
The role of "Older Ashlin" was originally supposed to be a voiceover, but the casting director noticed a striking resemblance between Mare Shepherd's and Leslie Hopps and cast her onscreen.
The hair/make-up artist, Elke Winters, was also working night shoots on Scooby-Doo 2: Monsters Unleashed (2004) (which was filming in Vancouver at the time). She would work a 12 hour shift on "Scooby-Doo 2" till 8am, then head to the SPANK set and work till 8pm, where she would then head back over to "Scooby-Doo 2" to start another night shift till 8am the next day. She did this for 3 days straight... without sleeping until the last day on "SPANK" she was found passed out on the set of Jarvis' bed.
While in post-production, working with a team of two CGI animators, the director realized there was not going to be enough time to complete all the CGI work in the given time frame of three months. Unable to find a third animator, he decided to learn the 3D software "MAYA 4.5" and joined the team himself. Post production was completed on time.
