- Six ordinary Matoran are chosen to become Toa, guardians of the legendary city of Metru Nui. But as they accustom to their new role, conflicts quickly arise between them, and a sinister plot is set in motion right under their noses.
- The legends tells the story of how the Toa came to be, chosen from the pool of Matoran youth in the great city of Metru Nui and, though physically transformed, hardly prepared for increased size and super heroic powers. Now in short order, the Toa--who babble and bicker like agitated adolescents--have to master their new gifts, impress their leader, and prepare to protect their home.—Anthony Pereyra {hypersonic91@yahoo.com}
- When Toa Lhikan, guardian of Metru Nui, is captured by the ruthless Dark Hunters, he passes his power onto six unsuspecting Matoran, who are reluctant to accept their new destiny as the Toa Metru. However, Metru Nui's governor, Turaga Dume, is even more resistant to welcoming his domain's new heroes, and the Toa Metru are separated following a dangerous test. Now, pursued by the Dark Hunters and guided by the Great Spirit Mata Nui, the Toa will venture across the six Metrus that make up the great city to reunite. But even as they reach their goal, a series of events have already been set in motion that will have devastating consequences for all in Metru Nui...and the Great Spirit himself....—SightSpirit
- The great city of Metru Nui is in danger. Its sole protector, a Toa of Fire named Lhikan, has given six Matoran, one of each element a Toa Stone, in hopes that they will unite to fight the Makuta, avoid Dark Hunters Nidhiki and Krekka, and finish the Kanohi Vahi, the legendary Mask of Time.
- In the sequel, Vakama tells a story that takes place a long time before Mata-Nui. He and the other turaga (Nokama, Whenua, Onewa, Matau, and Nuju) were chosen to be the Toa Metru of the island Metru-Nui. They must fight off the Morbutzkah (an evil plant that grows rapidly) to save Metru-Nui.—movie_lover_5000
- 1000 years (in-universe) before the events of 'Bionicle: Mask of Light', the half-mechanical, half-organic humanoid 'Matoran', and numerous other species, inhabit the six cities of Metru Nui, under the protection of sentinel Toa Lhikan (Michael Dobson), intertribal elder Turaga Dume (Gerard Plunkett), and the deity Mata Nui, the personnification of their world. The inciting action occurs when Lhikan is captured by 'Dark Hunters' Nidhiki (Paul Dobson) and Krekka (Michael Dobson), and empowers the six Matoran Vakama (Alessandro Juliani), Matau (Brian Drummond), Nuju (Trevor Devall), Nokama (Tabitha St. Germain), Onewa (Brian Drummond), and Whenua (Paul Dobson) to take his place as Toa.
The new Toa set out on a series of adventures (shown only briefly, in a montage), culminating in the recovery of the Great Kanoka Discs, which serve as sources of power. When they present these to the city, the villain Makuta (Lee Tockar), disguised as Dume, humiliates them instead. Onewa, Nuju, and Whenua are captured, but meet with Lhikan in prison, now a Turaga himself, who trains them in their new powers. Vakama, Matau, and Nokama escape, and elude the Dark Hunters in search of their comrades. With the help of the immense, intelligent ungulates known as the 'Kikanalo', these three Toa rejoin their brethren and Lhikan, who reveals the supposed Dume is an impostor, who plans to imprison the entire Matoran population.
The seven protagonists then expose Makuta, too late to stop him. Makuta, once exposed, strikes Mata Nui unconscious and imprisons the Matoran. Vakama and Lhikan then confront Makuta while the other Toa take the Matoran aboard ship, and set a course to escape. Lhikan is killed in the fight, but Vakama tricks Makuta into stunning himself, and all six Toa immobilize him under a crystal dome. Over a series of voyages (not shown), they settle the Matoran on an island named after Mata Nui, where they become six Turaga to govern the tribes.
