Everyone’s favorite killer doll is headed back to the small screen with “Chucky” Season 3: Part 2 on April 10, but are any further movies being planned at this time?
Created by Don Mancini, the “Chucky” television series remarkably plays around with existing elements from all previous films without disregarding Anything from the past. From the original Child’s Play to sequels including Child’s Play 2, Bride of Chucky and even Seed of Chucky, it’s all one cohesive timeline that Mancini remains deeply committed to.
Of course, the most recent film in the Child’s Play franchise was the 2019 remake, to date the only movie in the saga that’s Not part of Mancini’s vision. Is Mancini’s original incarnation going to spend his final days on TV, while another Chucky will be featured in the movies? It’s a question we’ve been asking ourselves for the last few years,...

After taking a detour to the small screen with his own TV series, Chucky is heading back to the world of feature films.
In 1988, the original Child's Play movie was released, introducing pop culture icon Charles Lee Ray, aka "Chucky," the horror genre's most well-known killer doll. The character would return in a series of films before making the transition to television with the Chucky series from Syfy and USA Network. In a new interview for the Scream Dreams Podcast, Chucky's creator, Don Mancini, shared an exciting update on the future of the franchise. When asked about what upcoming projects he has in the works, Mancini revealed that he's begun work on a new Chucky film, confirming his plans to bring the character back to the big screen.

Every long-running horror franchise has at least one laughably bad sequel. Whether it be the storyline, the characters, or the setting. Look at films like Jason X, Halloween: Resurrection, or perhaps Seed of Chucky — though that one might have been intentional. It’s sort of a rite of passage at this point for big franchises to have at least one sour addition. After all, when you have so many movies, they can’t all be winners. But at least most franchises call it quits at some point and realize they’re sort of losing grip of the movie. But when it comes to 1979’s The Amityville Horror, it has yet to reach that point and now boasts upwards of 30 movies. You may assume at least the majority of these 30 sequels would all have to do with the original story in some way. After all, they all have Amityville in the title.

Tom Holland's 1988 film "Child's Play" was initially meant to be a satire of the commercial madness that swept the world when Cabbage Patch Kids proliferated through the marketplace a few years before. What if, "Child's Play" asked, the soul of a vicious serial killer possessed your ultra-hot Christmas toy? The result was a genuinely creepy supernatural thriller about a young boy named Andy (Alex Vincent) his single mom (Catherine Hicks) and the mysterious Good Guy doll who likely contains the personality of Charles Lee "Chucky" Ray (Brad Dourif), known to the police as the Lakeshore Strangler.
Like many of the slasher films of the 1980s, "Child's Play" was extensively sequelized. The mythos of Chucky the killer doll expanded, leading to strange byzantine rules of voodoo magic (Chucky uses a magical amulet and magic spells to shunt his soul into a doll body), as well as inter-doll mating, and a lot of queerness.

John Waters may not have directed a film in nearly two decades, but he has been far from slowing down. With a handful of books, several TV appearances and his annual one-man show, Waters is about as busy as he’s ever been. Thankfully, one of those books, “Liarmouth”, will be his next feature. And after that? Anything but retirement.
In a new profile straight out of John Waters’ hometown of Baltimore, the writer/director said, “I jump up every day to go to work…People say why aren’t you going to retire? Because I wish I believed in another life after, but I don’t. So I want to see every person, every movie, read every book, go everywhere in the world…That’s why I think travel is so important. That’s why I continue to do this show.” The show he’s referring to is A John Waters Christmas,...

Legends are hanging out with Legends on the set of Chucky Season 3 as Jennifer Tilly took to her X account to share an image with John Waters. Yesterday, news broke that the iconic filmmaker behind such titles as Hairspray and Cry Baby would be joining the cast of the slasher series for the second half of its third season. Far from his first tango with the little red-headed devil, Waters previously appeared in 2004’s Seed of Chucky, where his character, a paparazzo named Pete Peters met an untimely death after getting in Chucky’s way. This time around, the Baltimore native will appear as Good Guys doll creator, Wendell Wilkins. How Wendell will play into the storyline remains to be seen, but the first batch of episodes revealed that Chucky (voiced by Brad Dourif) was aging at a rapid rate, so perhaps he’ll be seeking out Wilkins’ help to...

Don Mancini, who has written every film in the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise (except the remake) and directed a few of them, developed the TV series Chucky with producer David Kirschner – and he has made it clear that he enjoys casting actors in multiple roles. For example, Devon Sawa has already played four different characters over the course of the TV show’s three seasons. Now Entertainment Weekly has learned that legendary filmmaker John Waters is the latest person to play two different roles in this franchise. Having previously played Pete Peters, a tabloid photographer who got dissolved by acid in 2004’s Seed of Chucky, Waters has now been added to the cast of Chucky season 3, where he’ll be playing Wendell Wilkins, “the reclusive creator of the Good Guy dolls, who gets drawn into the psychopathic Chucky’s tangled web”.

Tom Holland's 1988 film "Child's Play" was about a serial killer named Charles Lee Ray (Brad Dourif) who was fatally wounded by a cop (Chris Sarandon) during a shootout in a toy warehouse. As he lay dying, Charles, a.k.a. Chucky, used voodoo magic to shunt his consciousness into a nearby Good Guy doll, a talking plastic child about a foot tall. In the body of the doll, Chucky continues his reign of terror. "Child's Play" was clearly a spoof of the Cabbage Patch Kids phenomenon a few years previous, positing that the year's difficult-to-obtain ultra-hot Christmas toy could possibly contain the soul of a murderer.
To date, there have been six sequels to "Child's Play," a remake, and a spinoff series called "Chucky," which concluded part one of its third season in October of 2023. The series became increasingly wild as it went on, tilting heavily into camp and comedy.

Chucky has added another returning franchise cast member. The show, which is the latest entry in the long-running killer doll franchise that began with the 1988 horror movie Child's Play, is in full continuity with the previous movies (except the unrelated 2019 remake starring Mark Hamill as Chucky) and includes returning cast members Brad Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, and Christine Elise. You better run, because the coolest horror shirt of the year just dropped.
Since 2023 has been the longest year ever, you may have forgotten that it all kicked off with the robotic monstrous femme supremacy of "M3GAN." Not only did M3GAN aerial cartwheel her way into our horror-loving hearts and immediately establish herself as the next great horror icon (greenlighting a sequel in the process), but she also absolutely slayed at the box office. As of publication, "M3GAN" is the third highest-grossing horror film of the year, just behind "Scream VI" and "Five Nights at Freddy's." Considering one of those films is a legacy sequel and the other is based on an insanely popular video game franchise, this makes "M3GAN" the most popular original horror film of the year. In honor of everyone's new best friend, the horror-themed apparel company, Cavity Colors, is releasing an officially licensed "M3GAN" shirt and zip-up hoodie.

Who on earth would want to release a horror movie in November?! That’s like showing up to Thanksgiving dinner on a full stomach or going for a jog after a marathon. Surely, studios don’t purposefully plan to release their movie during the four weeks After the entire world is consumed with the dead, dying, maimed and dismembered, right? The calendar says spooky season is over (although you and I know differently) and as the grumpy neighbor in Halloween II says, the general audience has “been trick or treated to death” by October’s end.
On the contrary, November Horror has had some shockingly great runs over the years. And maybe there’s a method to the madness. If horror fans are lucky, October is packed tighter than a Black Friday sale at Target during a live in store Taylor Swift performance. Why not wait a couple of weeks...

LGBTQ+ horror movies and TV shows provide entertainment, representation, and thrills, serving as an important part of queer culture. While some horror engages in harmful tropes, there are more directors and screenwriters now providing queer horror stories that aren't demonizing. Many examples of queer horror stories exist within movies and TV shows, offering diverse LGBTQ+ characters and storylines that go beyond their queer identities.
There are many great LGBTQ+ horror movies and TV shows that provide entertainment, representation, and thrills. The horror genre is one of the backbones of queer culture. This intersection exists for multiple reasons. Queer culture and the horror genre both frequently reject conventional societal standards. Additionally, even before moving pictures existed, horror novels provided some of the earliest examples of queer representation. As the genre adapted to movie and TV screens, horror continued to play an integral role in queer expression with many shows even making direct commentary on LGBTQ+ issues.

Alien vs. Predator. Freddy vs. Jason. Sadako vs. Kayako. Bobby "Boris" Pickett's "Monster Mash."
Throughout horror genre history, there have been numerous examples of characters crossing over into one another's universes, continuity, and canon. While cinematic universes featuring characters from other genres are all the rage these days (especially with regard to action and comic book superheroes), there remains something special about the horror crossover.
For one thing, horror was the first genre to birth a cinematic universe long before it became a buzzworthy term, thanks to Universal Pictures' "Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man" in 1943. “Nothing is what it seems.” A seemingly offhand remark made early in Don’t Look Now is slowly revealed to be the theme around which the film revolves.
Nicolas Roeg’s directorial efforts may not have always connected with audiences immediately, but his impressionistic approach has aged like fine wine. Don’t Look Now, in particular, was decades ahead of its time upon its release in 1973.
The screenplay — written by Allan Scott and Chris Bryant (The Awakening), based on a 1971 short story by Daphne du Maurier — analyzes the psychological effects of trauma through a horror lens; a motif we’ve seen explored many times over in recent years, from Ari Aster’s filmography to David Gordon Green’s Halloween trilogy.

I don’t need to inform anyone that mainstream Hollywood entertainment is still in the grips of a franchise and IP based fervor. Mega franchises, sequels, reboots, requels, remakes – all of these have been the lion’s share of high profile releases for well over a decade now. Everything from the most recognizable franchises in film history to more niche pop cultural artifacts have been resurrected, dusted off, and had a new coat of paint air-brushed on.
Every day across social media the online film community seems to litigate “the state” of Hollywood.
Superhero fatigue. Franchise fatigue. You know the discourse. Personally, I take as much of a nonchalant attitude with all this stuff as I can. I have my peccadillos. I have my areas of agreement regarding “the state” of Hollywood. But at the end of the day I’m just…a dude. A dude who just wants to...

Seed Of Chucky (2004): A silly and fun installment, but it hardly feels like a horror movie, deviating from the traditional slasher genre. Cult Of Chucky (2017): While solid and suspenseful, it falls short compared to the previous film, with bizarre visuals and creative deaths.

The Child's Play franchise remains popular and has solidified its place in entertainment history with a successful spinoff TV show. Child's Play movies are available to stream online, with most of them available on the platforms Peacock and Fubo. For viewers who prefer to rent or buy the movies, they are available on various platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, and Google Play, with rental prices around $3.99 and purchase prices around $15.00.
Child's Play is one of the most iconic and well-known horror franchises of all time, and fortunately for anybody who wants to watch them, these movies are all streaming online. The slasher series began in 1988 and solidified Chucky, a doll possessed by the spirit of a crazed serial killer, as a pop-culture staple. The franchise has remained relevant for multiple decades, with six sequels, a remake, and a successful spinoff TV series that aired on Syfy and the USA Network.

Chucky is the iconic slasher villain and the main reason viewers keep coming back for more of the Child's Play franchise. The franchise follows a consistent storyline that begins with the original 1988 Child's Play movie. The Chucky TV show spinoff expands the franchise's plot, bringing back old characters and maintaining Chucky as the central villain.
The Child’s Play franchise has a lot of movies and a successful spinoff series, creating questions about the viewing order of Chucky's slasher series. Ever since 1988’s Child’s Play introduced viewers to Chucky, the character has been an iconic slasher villain. Chucky is a doll possessed by the spirit of serial killer Charles Lee Ray. Played with gravelly-voiced panache by Brad Dourif, the killer doll is both the villain and arguably the antihero of the Child’s Play franchise.

John Waters is no longer a cult filmmaker. The filmmaker, author, artist, actor, and spoken-word performer has been a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences since 1990 (David Lynch was his sponsor). He’s screened “Hairspray” in the museum’s theater (with a Q&a moderated by Oscar-winner Barry Jenkins). The Academy Film Archive preserved his PSA, “John Waters Doesn’t Want You to Smoke.” He’s even getting a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. As Waters likes to note, he’s so respectable he could puke.
At this point, everyone loves John Waters. John Waters should be hosting the Oscars, an idea so commonly held that if you ask the upbeat and unerringly polite Academy CEO Bill Kramer the odds of making that happen, you can hear him doing his best not to roll his eyes. “If I had a dime for every time that question’s been asked,...

Blumhouse and Universal's "Five Nights at Freddy's" movie is looking more and more like it has the makings of being the reason for the Halloween season, and a big part of the allure is seeing the larger-than-life animatronics of Foxy, Bonnie, Chica, and Freddy Fazbear in live-action. The fearsome foursome of Freddy Fazbear's Pizzeria (home to child murder and possessed robot animals) represents the introduction to horror for a new generation, so it was important that no shortcuts were taken in bringing them all to life. Fortunately, the creative team behind "FNaF" went above and beyond by enlisting the services of the legendary Jim Henson's Creature Shop. With the help of some of the very best in the biz, all of the animatronics look character-correct ... and downright terrifying.

It's killer doll season once again; in keeping with recent fall tradition, "Chucky" is heading back to our TV screens very soon. The USA and Syfy Channel continuation of the long-running "Child's Play" franchise has been a horror fan's heaven for 2 years now, and it shows no signs of stopping with a third season set to move the action from Salem, New Jersey to Washington, D.C.
The season's first teaser hinted that Chucky (Brad Dourif) might be making fools of the politicians there as it featured the possessed toy in a CNN-style press conference of his own, berating journalists while dropping tidbits about the new season. Now, we've finally gotten a better look at season 3 via the full-length trailer, which just dropped. Will Chucky "drain the swamp" in Washington, or just fill it up with blood?

In 2013, nearly 10 years after Seed of Chucky hit theaters, Charles Lee Ray came home. Sort of. He arrived on the doorsteps of not only the Pierce family, but all the fans who had been waiting for years to see their favorite Good Guy in another misadventure. Needless to say, Don Mancini delivered with Curse of Chucky.

1998’s Bride of Chucky was a major blockbuster success for Universal. So, then, why did it take so long to get a sequel? And, even more to that point, why was it through Rogue Pictures? Full Moon’s Subspecies is an interesting franchise. It started in 1991, right at the dawn of a decade that’s all-too-often considered to be a mixed bag of horror offerings, catering to the direct-to-video market that was booming at the time. Until now, with the release of Subspecies V: Bloodrise on Screambox June 2, there had not been an entry in this series since 1998, nor had there even really been much merchandise until the comic book miniseries by Cullen Bunn a few years ago; and yet the vampire franchise still persists as a cult classic.

A lifelong horror fan, Don Mancini wrote the first Child’s Play script — originally titled Batteries Not Included, then Blood Buddy — while attending UCLA. “I realized that no one had ever done the living doll thing as a full-fledged feature where you treat the doll as a character who can actually emote...
Child’s Play creator Don Mancini and franchise alumni Brad Dourif, Jennifer Tilly, Fiona Dourif, Alex Vincent, Christine Elise, Billy Boyd, John Waters, Tony Gardner, David Kirschner, and more spill their guts along with such notable fans as Marlon Wayans, Abigail Breslin, Lin Shaye, and Dan Povenmire, among others.

Festival favorite Living with Chucky, now streaming exclusively on Screambox, more than celebrates the Child’s Play franchise; it highlights the family behind it. Multihyphenate filmmaker Kyra Elise Gardner wrote, directed, edited, produced, and appears in her documentary feature debut to explore the popular horror franchise from a unique position.
Gardner is the daughter of special makeup effects legend Tony Gardner, who has been with the franchise since Seed of Chucky. The documentary details the history of the Child’s Play films by the cast and crew, in addition to Gardner’s relationship with the series and the impact it had on her family. Gardner, you could say, literally grew up with Chucky.
Bloody Disgusting spoke with Kyra Elise Gardner about her feature debut and how it evolved her relationship with her Chucky family and the horror genre.

Plot: Kyra Gardner, the daughter of special effects artist and puppeteer Tony Gardner, takes a journey through the Child’s Play franchise.
Review: Friday the 13th has Crystal Lake Memories (both the book and the movie). The Nightmare on Elm Street series has the documentary Never Sleep Again. But a lot of the big horror franchises are still waiting to receive their definitive documentaries. Last year, I read the book Reign of Chucky, a film-by-film examination of the Child’s Play / Chucky franchise that was packed with interesting information about the making of the movies. But since it was assembled during the production of season 2 of the Chucky TV series, it was missing one major element: authors Dustin McNeill and Travis Mullins weren’t able to land interviews with some of the most prominent players in the franchise, like Don Mancini, who has written every entry in the series, or actors Brad Dourif,...

Filmmaker Kyra Elise Gardner’s examination of the Child’s Play franchise comes from a personal place in Living with Chucky, debuting on Screambox and Digital on April 4, 2023.
Kyra Elise Gardner is the daughter of Tony Gardner, one of the most prominent and integral special effects artists in the “Chucky” franchise. For the Gardners, Chucky is family.
And the Chucky films, well, they’re often about family as well.
The filmmaker’s familial relationship with the killer Good Guy doll, voiced by Brad Dourif, fittingly coincided with the horror icon unexpectedly finding himself a family in Bride of Chucky. Bride, penned by Don Mancini and directed by Ronny Yu, gave series protagonist Andy Barclay (Alex Vincent) a much-needed rest and instead introduced franchise mainstay Tiffany Valentine (Jennifer Tilly), opening up new layers to Chucky in the process.
