HBO Max New Releases: February 2021

HBO Max New Releases: February 2021
When it released Wonder Woman 1984 to its HBO Max servers in December, WarnerMedia made it abundantly clear that it was ready for a new era of movie distribution. Now, in its list of new releases for February 2021, Warner is attempting another grand experiment for HBO Max.

Judas and the Black Messiah premieres on HBO Max this Feb. 12 and is by every indication the kind of film that awards shows go gaga over. Both Daniel Kaluuya and and Lakeith Stanfield look to be at the top of their respective games in this story about Black Panther Party chairman Fred Hampton and the FBI that wants to take him down. Will this have the same rhetorical oomph on the small screen? Guess we’ll find out!

15 Biggest Box Office Hits That Premiered at Sundance, From ‘The Blair Witch Project’ to ‘Get Out’ (Photos)
Sundance is the biggest market for indie films around, and for good reason. The festival has a history of finding the quirky, independent crowd-pleaser that goes on to be a box office smash. 2020 saw a record sale of $17.5 million for the Andy Samberg comedy “Palm Springs,” which proved to be one of Hulu’s biggest movies ever. And while some films fizzle at the box office despite their festival hype, many more manage to sustain that buzz all the way until Oscar season. Here’s a few that made a splash at both Park City and for wide audiences. All box office figures are domestic numbers.

15. “A Walk in the Woods” (2015) – $29.5 million

It should come as no surprise that Robert Redford premiered a movie he starred in at at his own festival. But he also proved that he still carries some box office clout. The film, acquired by Broad Green Pictures,

Hugh Grant & Josh Hartnett Join Ever Expanding Cast for Guy Ritchie's New Thriller
Guy Ritchie is reportedly looking to reunite with The Gentlemen star Hugh Grant for his next project, the currently untitled action thriller formerly known as Five Eyes, starring macho man Jason Statham and Parks and Recreation alumni Aubrey Plaza. While the deal is not yet done, Grant has found much success working with Ritchie in the past, receiving unanimous praise from both critics and audiences alike for his portrayal of the charmingly amoral private investigator, Fletcher in 2019's The Gentlemen.

Alongside Hugh Grant, Penny Dreadful star Josh Hartnett has also reportedly joined proceedings for the project, which was previously shopped to buyers at the Toronto Film Festival as Five Eyes. Should Hartnett join Five Eyes, this would not only mark his biggest movie role in nigh-on a decade, but also his second collaboration with both director Guy Ritchie and star Jason Statham, with the actor already joining the pair for Wrath of Man,

Spiral: From the Book of Saw will have plenty of ties to the Saw mythology
The Saw franchise was the king of horror throughout the 2000s and I was one of those who absolutely ate it up. The series wound up coming to a conclusion with Saw: The Final Chapter, but as any good horror fan knows, slapping The Final Chapter on anything is pretty much a guarantee that it won't be. Sure enough, John Kramer (Tobin Bell) would return seven years later for Jigsaw,…

Ryan Reynolds Says Deadpool’s First MCU Mission Will Be Finding Who Killed Bambi’s Mom
Now that Deadpool 3 has been confirmed to be set in the MCU, it’s opened the floodgates for a plethora of meta references from the animation giant’s back catalogue of classics. Following this, Ryan Reynolds has stated on Instagram that Wade Wilson’s first order of business will be to hunt down whoever killed Bambi’s mom.

Being emotionally traumatized by Bambi is a rite of passage for children all over the world, partly because the movie is rightly recognized as an iconic masterpiece, and partly because it’s as safe an introduction to the concept of death as most parents can show to their kids.

The film was referenced in Deadpool 2, of course, when Wade’s narration argued that his second big screen outing should be considered a family flick despite beginning with a vicious murder, arguing that such an event also takes place in the 80-year-old classic,
