‘On The Rocks’ Star Marlon Wayans On The Art Of Portraying Deceptively Simple Characters, Memories Of ‘In Living Color’ And His Drive To “Do It All”

‘On The Rocks’ Star Marlon Wayans On The Art Of Portraying Deceptively Simple Characters, Memories Of ‘In Living Color’ And His Drive To “Do It All”
Over the course of decades, Marlon Wayans admired the work of director Sofia Coppola and actor Bill Murray from afar, finally getting the chance to collaborate with both on Apple TV+ drama, On the Rocks.

Debuting on the streaming platform in October, the film tells the story of Laura (Rashida Jones), a novelist and mother to two young daughters, who grows suspicious of her frequently-absent husband, Dean (Wayans), setting off on a journey with her philandering father Felix (Murray) to determine whether or not he is cheating.

A charismatic tech entrepreneur on the cusp of massive success, Dean proved to be a challenging role for Wayans, because of the fact that he was written as a mystery for his wife to figure out—a man whose actions and true motivations would only be understood over time.

For the writer, producer and actor—who hails from a legendary comedy family, and

‘Peacemaker’: HBO Max James Gunn ‘Suicide Squad’ Spinoff Series Adds Four
James Gunn’s Suicide Squad spinoff HBO Max series Peacemaker has added Chukwudi Iwuji, as Clemson Murn in a series regular role, and three recurring guest stars, those being Lochlyn Munro as Larry Fitzgibbon, Annie Chang as Detective Sophie Song and Christopher Heyerdahl as Captain Locke.

Peacemaker will explore the origins of John Cena’s character from the upcoming Aug. 6, 2021 Warner Bros. release, which is also being planned to hit HBO Max at the same time. Peacemaker is a guy who believes in peace at any cost — no matter how many people he has to kill to get it.

Of the four characters announced, Fitzgibbon is the head doctor at Belle Reve penitentiary in DC Comics lore and he’s an aide to government official Amanda Waller who assembles the Suicide Squad (played by Viola Davis in the movie).

Today’s quad joins previously announced series regulars Cena, Danielle Brooks,

Marlon Wayans still wants to make a White Chicks sequel
Say what you will about White Chicks but the film had developed a nice little cult following since its original release back in 2004. Critics weren't in love with the film's antics but the movie was financially successful, grossing $113 million worldwide on a $37 million budget. One of the film's stars, Marlon Wayans, has been eyeing more serious roles lately with his latest,…

Marlon Wayans Says He Definitely Wants To Make White Chicks 2

Marlon Wayans Says He Definitely Wants To Make White Chicks 2
The Wayans brothers have never exactly been bastions of high quality cinema, with Marlon in particular a repeat offender responsible for a string of terrible comedies like Little Man, Dance Flick, A Haunted House and the sequel, Fifty Shades of Black, Naked and Sextuplets. None of those movies found anything even approaching critical acclaim, but several of them did decent business at the box office and the 48 year-old has been collaborating with Netflix on a regular basis, so there must be a good sized audience for his work.

One entry from the writer/actor/producer’s back catalogue that’s remained inexplicably popular is White Chicks, the 2004 comedic effort directed by Keenen Ivory and starring Shawn and Marlon in the lead roles. It sees two sibling FBI agents go undercover and end up tasked with protecting the socialite Wilson sisters, before eventually being forced to disguise themselves as the titular white chicks.

Marlon Wayans Still 'Definitely' Wants to Make White Chicks 2

Marlon Wayans Still 'Definitely' Wants to Make White Chicks 2
Lately, Marlon Wayans has been eyeing more serious roles for his career, but he still "definitely" wants to make a White Chickssequel. While exercising his comedy chops, we've seen Wayans practically do it all, going from playing a little person masquerading as a toddler to starring as seven different versions of himself in one movie. Of all of the bizarre roles Wayans has taken on, however, White Chicks is still perhaps the most popular, and the actor feels that now is a better time than ever to suit back up as a caucasian woman.

Speaking about the potentiality of a White Chicks sequel, Marlon Wayans had this to say in the newest issue of People magazine.

"People always say, 'Could you do a White Chicks 2 now?' I think definitely. A good joke is when you can make the people you're parodying laugh. Who loves White Chicks the most? White chicks.

Marlon Wayans Sets the Record Straight on If a White Chicks Sequel Is Really Happening

Marlon Wayans Sets the Record Straight on If a White Chicks Sequel Is Really Happening
Is White Chicks really getting a sequel? Marlon Wayans set the record straight during an Oct. 22 episode of Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. As fans may recall, Terry Crews fueled speculation after he appeared on the Bravo show last year.  "I actually got with Shawn [Wayans]," the 52-year-old said in June 2019, "and he was like, 'Man, we're doing it. We're getting it going.'" But on Thursday, Marlon suggested this may not be the case. "Terry's lying," he said, "but I ain't going to say that to him because he's too buff and I don't want to get beat up." And while the 48-year-old said "we're working toward it," he...

On The Rocks Trailer Reunites Bill Murray with Director Sofia Coppola

On The Rocks Trailer Reunites Bill Murray with Director Sofia Coppola
We have the first trailer for On The Rocks. This is a movie that has a ton going for it on paper. For one, the cast is led by Bill Murray and Rashida Jones. Murray is also reuniting with director Sofia Coppola and, given that the two last collaborated on Lost in Translation, that is worth paying attention to. This also serves as the first collaboration between A24, the studio behind Moonlight, Midsommar and Uncut Gems, among many others, and Apple. Luckily, as we can see from the trailer, Apple didn't seem to get in the way on this one.

The trailer opens up with Bill Murray and Rashida Jones meeting up as daughter and father to play catch-up. While there is something underneath the surface, they seem happy to see each other. We then come to find that Jones' character is navigating a tricky marriage, with her husband gone on business a lot.

White Chicks: 5 Ways The Movie Has Aged Well (& 5 How It Hasn't)
White Chicks is a cult classic but in recent times, some elements in the film have been termed as offensive and politically incorrect. The 2004 comedy film follows two undercover FBI agents who cross-dress and wear white make-up in order to look like two white wealthy sisters that are being pursued by a kidnapper.

HBO Max Signs Overall Deal With Marlon Wayans, Sets Pilot Development For Comedy ‘Book Of Marlon’ & Greenlights Stand-Up Specials
Marlon Wayans is getting into business with HBO Max. The actor and comedian has struck an overall deal with the WarnerMedia streaming service and has set a number of projects.

The digital platform is developing a pilot for Book of Marlon, where he plays a fictionalized version of himself as he attempts to reconcile being a good person and father with being Marlon. Wayans has co-created the show with his long-time producing partner Rick Alvarez and will star. Wayans and Alvarez have written the pilot.

It is the first scripted project that HBO Max and Wayans have identified as part of a first-look deal at his scripted and unscripted projects.

Separately, he will perform a stand-up special for the service as well as host another multi-act special. His own, as-yet-untitled special, will look at his life and will “dig even deeper” than his recent special Woke-ish.

It is the latest stand-up special for the service,

10 Iconic Movies About The Art Of Drag

10 Iconic Movies About The Art Of Drag
Drag may just be reaching peak popularity, but the art form has been around far longer than most realize. In the United States, the style dates back to the 19th century, and eventually developed into a vaudeville staple. It's a common misconception that drag was exclusively the art of female impersonators in those formative years. Drag kings have been around just as long, possibly longer, with female performers like Annie Hindle donning masculine drag as early as 1867.

It's unsurprising that this long, rich history has been diluted by the more dominant powers in Western culture. Most viewers first experience drag as a joke, with the leading men in films like Some Like It Hot (1959) or its loose remake, White Chicks (2004) portrayed as straight-laced, red-blooded, All-American males whose are forced into female dress. With the success of RuPaul's Drag Race, this has all changed,

Film Review: Marlon Wayans in ‘Sextuplets’ on Netflix

Film Review: Marlon Wayans in ‘Sextuplets’ on Netflix
Once the funniest and most ubiquitous family in Hollywood, the Wayans siblings — Damon, Keenen Ivory, Kim, Shawn and so on — have largely faded from the scene in recent years, leaving youngest brother Marlon (now nearing 50) to carry the mantle. Audiences may not be showing up for sendups like “Scary Movie” and “Dance Flick” like they used to, but Marlon has figured out a foolproof solution: Make lowbrow laffers with search-friendly titles directly for Netflix, and the checks keep rolling in.

First it was “Naked” — a “Groundhog Day”-style infinite-repeat scenario in which Marlon plays a groom who wakes up au naturel on his wedding day, over and over until he gets it right — and now it’s “Sextuplets,” which is the first thing that pops up when you type “S-e-x” into Netflix. In both cases, lonely viewers looking for something spicy will have to settle for a relatively bland and half-baked comedy,

Marlon Wayans would like to play DC’s Plastic Man

Comedic actor Marlon Wayans, best known as the writer of Scary Movie and White Chicks, has claimed that the role he’d like to play in a comic book movie is Plastic Man.

In an exclusive interview with ScreenRant, Wayans was originally promoting his upcoming Netflix film Sextuplets before he revealed the one superhero he would like to play.

“I would love to play Plastic Man,” Wayans said. “I think he works with the comedic skill set that I have, in terms of how I’m physical, I’m bendy. And I think it’d be cool to just do it without… You know, what’s great about Black Panther is he’s a black superhero, right? But sometimes [it’s fun] to just do something. Like, you wouldn’t think Plastic Man was a black guy, but it’s not black – it’s just, he’s plastic. I think it’d be fun for me,

Over the Top Ridiculous Trailer for Marlon Wayans's Sextuplets Is Sure to Make You Laugh

There are some movies that are just quintessentially ‘90s. The movies where one comedian plays all the characters, the irreverent humor, the slapstick comedy, it all contributed to a great ‘90s film.

Today we have a trailer for you to enjoy that looks like it’s right out of that camp. Marlon Wayans is back with a hilarious and ridiculous film called Sextuplets about a guy who sets out to find his birth family. He is surprised to learn that he was a sextuplet and dreams of the siblings he never knew.

He goes out to find them and is met with an insane group of weirdos (all played by him) that take him on the ride of a lifetime. I laughed so hard during this stupid trailer that I think I have to see this movie. It looks like it will be a hilariously good time.

Enjoy the trailer below,

Terry Crews Mocks Fast & Furious Stars for Demanding Equal Fight Contracts

Terry Crews Mocks Fast & Furious Stars for Demanding Equal Fight Contracts
The drama behind-the-scenes of a Fast and Furious project is allegedly a lot more petty than originally thought. A new report on the situation caught the eye of Terry Crews, who hilariously responded to the contract stipulations of Vin Diesel, Dwayne Johnson, and Jason Statham. The franchise spin-off Hobbs & Shaw, which hits theaters today, was no exception. On a set full of alpha male action stars, everything has to be equal since nobody wants to be perceived as weaker than their co-stars.

Terry Crews knows all about being an action star, but it appears his ego isn't as large as some of his contemporaries. Contract stipulations are as old as time. Actors want their name first in the credits, bigger on a billboard, more screen time, etc. Now, it has spilled out into the sharing of muscles and fight scenes, which has always been there, but is now under a microscope.
