The movie centers on a teen girl who got raped by a guy her age.
Flashbacks of a traumatic event that happened in Melinda's past are played throughout the film. Her trauma is evident every time she encounters a boy at school who sexually assaulted her. In one instance, she goes into her closet and lets out a muffled scream.
Melinda is ostracized by her former friends and students in general for calling the police at a wild, alcohol-centered party. They are unaware that the reason she called the police was that she was assaulted.
Melinda's right-wing history teacher is portrayed in an extreme and negative light, which may be upsetting to some viewers of a more conservative persuasion.
