MPAA Rated PG-13 for sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images

Sex & Nudity

  • Snape is hung upside down with his pants getting removed
  • A couple times we see a couple kissing in a sexual way.
  • Harry and Cho share a long and passionate kiss that lasts about ten seconds. another teen couple kissing briefly.

Violence & Gore

  • Dudley is getting attacked by a dementor in the start of the film.
  • In one scene Fred and George are riding their broomsticks setting off fireworks, hexes and more then they make a dragon that was attacking Umbridge.
  • In the department of mysteries, some kids are getting attacked by death eaters and continue fighting. There is a part when some death eaters each take a kid from the group of six kids not Harry.
  • All of Dumbledore's Army including Harry write a message using the bloody quill with that carved on their hands.
  • At the start of the film, Harry and Dudley are attacked by dementors.
  • -Violent depictions of Voldemort murdering a boy from the previous film. Harry has several of these nightmares throughout the movie.
  • -Harry and friends practice defensive spells which are pretty intense.
  • -Harry has a dream of a main character, being brutally attacked by Voldemort's large pet snake. (Quite a bit of blood is shown.)
  • -Another wizards' duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort.
  • -Harry sees a memory of Snape being bullied by Sirius, James and Peter Pettigrew; he's hung upside-down from a tree and made fun of. Snape calls Harry's father names like "swine".
  • -Harry is forced to write a phrase several times on parchment. Said phrase slowly appears carved on his hand, with violent bloody marks shown.
  • -Voldemort possesses Harry; his face all cut up and he falls to the ground. Writhing in pain, his demonic eyes pierce up at a disturbed Dumbledore, then a possessed Harry (in Voldemort' voice) exclaims "you've lost, old man!".


  • 1 use of bloody hell, 1 use of hell, 2 uses of bloody, 1 use of tosspot, 1 use of git, 1 use of swine, 1 use of bugger off, and 2 uses of God's name in vain.

  • There is some wine drinking in another scene.
  • Sirius, Lupin, and Ron's dad have beer during a dinner scene

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The appearance of various characters and/or monsters, such as Voldemort, some fiery dragon type apparitions, the Dementors, an elf, etc.
  • Voldemort projects frightening visions into Harry's head throughout the film, and the effects on Harry start to show.
  • The big duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore is very intense and frightening.

Violence & Gore

  • -Harry and Sirius battle 2 main villians, a third one comes along and kills Sirius. Harry chases Bellatrix Lestrange and hits her with the torture curse and is in such a rage he appears on the brink of killing her. Voldemort taunts Harry to murder her during this part.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Harry has nightmares several times throughout the film. One of his nightmares shows visions of Cedric being killed again in the Goblet of Fire, this can be very frightening for younger viewers to see.
  • Voldemort tries to posses Harry, causing Harry great agony; he writhes and screams on the floor while his friends watch on helplessly and Dumbledore tries to help him, and his eyes blaze frighteningly and demonically, while Voldemort's voice issues from Harry's mouth. There are a lot of disturbing flashing images during this sequence (Voldemort posing demonically and laughing and taunting Harry, Voldemort's head on Harry's body when he looks in a mirror, the deaths of a some characters, and other frightening imagery) , and it is quite prolonged. Harry eventually forces Voldemort from his mind and Voldemort is torn quite violently from Harry's chest.
