MPAA Rated PG-13 for sequences of fantasy violence and frightening images

Sex & Nudity

  • Brief kissing scene.
  • While dangling Snape upside down, James asks if anyone wants to see him take off Snape's trousers. He doesn't actually do it.
  • Harry accidentally drools pumpkin juice due to being distracted by Cho.

Violence & Gore

  • In the Department of Mysteries, some kids are getting attacked by Death Eaters and continue fighting. There is a part when the Death Eaters each take a kid from the group, except Harry.
  • As part of a detention, Harry uses a quill that cuts words into his hand, and also uses his blood as ink. Other students receive this punishment, but it isn't a graphic. Some of these students grimace or cry though
  • A centaur shoots an arrow into a giant's arm. It's dark, there's no blood, and it can easily be missed. The giant takes out the arrow calmly
  • At the start of the film, Harry and Dudley are attacked by Dementors.
  • Violent depictions of Voldemort murdering Cedric from the previous film. Harry has several of these nightmares throughout the movie.
  • Harry has a dream of Arthur Weasley being brutally attacked by Voldemort's large pet snake. (Quite a bit of blood is shown.)
  • Harry and Sirius battle two Death Eaters. A third one comes along and kills Sirius. Harry chases Bellatrix Lestrange and hits her with the torture curse and is in such a rage he appears to be on the brink of killing her. Voldemort taunts Harry to murder her during this part.
  • Another wizards' duel between Dumbledore and Voldemort.
  • Harry sees a memory of Snape being bullied by Sirius, James and Peter Pettigrew; he's hung upside-down from a tree and made fun of. Snape calls Harry's father names like "swine".

  • Ron says bloody hell a few times.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • Umbridge is mentioned to have used Veritaserum, a truth potion, on the students.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • The appearance of various characters and/or monsters, such as Voldemort, some fiery dragon type apparitions, the Dementors, an elf, etc.
  • Harry has nightmares several times throughout the film. One of his nightmares shows visions of Cedric being killed again in the Goblet of Fire. This isn't as scary as it was in the previous movie.
  • The big duel between Voldemort and Dumbledore is very intense and slightly frightening.
