Something Isn't Adding Up About Minerva McGonagall's Appearance in Fantastic Beasts 2

Caution, witches and wizards. There are spoilers ahead.

Much like the whisperings that a baby boy had bested the Dark Lord in Godric's Hollow, when Harry Potter fans heard Minerva McGonagall would make an appearance in the Fantastic Beasts sequel, the exciting news couldn't be contained. Yet, after the premiere of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, detail-oriented viewers noticed McGonagall's timeline didn't add up, and could throw off the continuity in Jk Rowling's magical universe.

The film, set in 1927, features an adult McGonagall working as a teacher at Hogwarts. But, here's the catch: Fans are convinced the iconic Transfiguration professor was born on Oct. 4, 1935. This means she would have appeared in Fantastic Beasts eight years before her birthday. Not only do those numbers not add up, but in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix she tells Professor Umbridge (ugh) she began working at Hogwarts in 1956. Hmmm . . .

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes Of Grindelwald May Be Breaking Harry Potter Canon

Recently, it was revealed that another familiar character from the Wizarding World would be returning in Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald. Namely, Professor Minerva McGonagall, with Fiona Glascott stepping into the role previously played by Maggie Smith in the Harry Potter films. You’d think fans would be pleased to see the future head of Gryffindor house showing up in the sequel, but hardcore Potterheads actually have a bone to pick with this.

You see, having McGonagall turn up in Fantastic Beasts 2 goes against the established information we have on the character. According to a line in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and McGonagall’s bio on the Pottermore website, the Transfiguration professor left Hogwarts in 1954 before working for the Ministry of Magic for two years. In 1956, she then shifted to the career that she’d have until Harry Potter’s time at the school.

The thing is,

‘Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald’ Hits Tracking With $65M-$75M Opening

  • Deadline
Warner Bros. Harry Potter universe spinoff Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald hit tracking this morning with agencies seeing an opening range between $65M-$75M. Remember these projections can change wildly before opening day. No one saw Halloween opening at $76.2M four weeks out. Grindelwald opens on Nov. 16.

First choice we’re informed is stronger than most films on tracking with an overall 13% four weeks out, with women overall strong (16%) followed by men over 25 (12%). While the first movie in Nov. 2016 repped the lowest three-day domestic opening in the J.K. Rowling Warner Bros. canon with $74.4M, the pic legged out abroad scoring $580M, repping 71% of its $814M haul. Overseas once again will be the big sell here for Grindelwald. Fantastic Beasts off a $325M estimated production cost and P&A global launch turned around a near $165M profit.

While there was an effort by Warners and Rowling on Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

‘Dancing with the Stars’ Week 3: See who’s dancing what (and how they’ll make you cry) for Most Memorable Year
Are you ready to get emotionally manipulated by dances? Because it’s Most Memorable Year Night on “Dancing with the Stars” next week, so you better be. Returning to one episode a week, Monday’s show will feature the remaining 11 celebrities interpreting a significant — and 98 percent sentimental — year in their lives.

Some of these are obvious. Mary Lou Retton chose 1984, the year she won the Olympic all-around gold, become the first American gymnast to do so. DeMarcus Ware picked 2016, when he won the Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos. Evanna Lynch is reliving 2006, the year she was cast as Luna Lovegood in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.” She’s also dancing to “Hedwig’s Theme” from the films. Milo Manheim chose this year because of “Zombies” and “Dancing with the Stars,” and because, you know, he’s just 17 years old.

But for the few contestants who actually impress us, well, they deserve our attention and praise. Enter: Wills Reid, the 29-year-old graphic designer from Los Angeles who single-handedly pieced Becca Kufrin's heart and morale back together after Jean Blanc's dramatic exit in episode four.

Samantha Bee: Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen Is ‘Fjull of Shj-t’ (Video)
Samantha Bee attacked Donald Trump’s immigration policy again this week, calling newly-enacted changes to the way asylum seekers are treated “the next worst thing,” and calling Trump’s Homeland Security Secretary Kristjen Nielsen “fjull of shjit.”

Trump issued an executive order on Wednesday to end his administration’s policy of separating asylum seekers and other undocumented immigrant parents and children, and housing the children in cages. But the new policy, which promises to keep families together, also allows such families to be detained “indefinitely.”

“If, like most people, you’ve been feeling a little uncomfortable with our Pre-k prisons, good news, the president fixed it with the next worst thing,” Bee said on Wednesday’s episode of on “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee.” “Yay! No more baby internment camps, just regular internment camps. That’s what we call a win in 2018. To be clear, I am happy that at

Fantastic Beasts Director Defends Casting Johnny Depp As Grindelwald

Following the many stories coming to light about major players in Hollywood being accused of sexual harassment, there was a strong backlash against the recent reveal that Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald would heavily focus on Johnny Depp’s titular villain. The issue for many people is that Depp was accused of committing an act of domestic violence against his ex-wife Amber Heard last year.

Those involved in the production – including J.K. Rowling, who’s usually very responsive to fans – have ignored the backlash up until now. However, director David Yates – who’s helmed every installment of the Harry Potter franchise since The Order of the Phoenix – has finally broken the silence on the issue. On why he decided to cast Depp, despite knowing of the accusations, Yates made it clear that he stands with the actor on the matter and does not believe Heard’s claims.
