‘The Masked Singer’ Host Nick Cannon Tests Positive for Covid; Niecy Nash to Fill In For Now (Exclusive)
The Masked Singer” host Nick Cannon has tested positive for the Covid-19 coronavirus, which means he won’t be seen in at least the first few episodes of the hit Fox reality series’ fifth season. Instead, producers have tapped actress and host Niecy Nash to fill in.

Nash will take over as guest host as production begins this Thursday on Season 5 of “The Masked Singer,” and until Cannon is ready to get back to work. Cannon is currently in quarantine and resting, a rep for the star confirms exclusively to Variety. Fox expects Cannon to return to the series later in the season.

Season 5 of “The Masked Singer” is scheduled to premiere in March. Returning to the show as usual are panelists Jenny McCarthy Wahlberg, Nicole Scherzinger, Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke.

The celebrity musical guessing game wrapped Season 4 in December as TV’s No. 1 entertainment series, tied with NBC’s “This Is Us.

Sharon Levy Upped To Chief Content Officer At Banijay-Owned Endemol Shine North America
Endemol Shine North America has promoted Sharon Levy to Chief Content Officer.

Levy was previously President, Unscripted and Scripted Television for the Banijay-owned U.S. producer.

It is the latest promotion at the company following the French company’s multi-billion dollar takeover of the Big Brother owner after Cris Abrego was promoted to Chairman of the Americas, Banijay, and President and CEO, Endemol Shine Holdings at the end of last year.

Levy is currently preparing to launch the reboot of Wipeout at TBS, fronted by John Cena and Nicole Byer, and the company’s The Talented Mr. Ripley adaptation Ripley at Showtime with Andrew Scott.

It is also working on a second season of Lego Masters at Fox and Foodtastic at Disney+.

Comcast Launches ‘Black Experience’ on Xfinity, Endorsed by African American Film Critics Association
Comcast launched a new destination with Black content, endorsed by the African American Film Critics Association, which is available to customers on Xfinity X1, Flex and Stream App at no additional cost.

Dubbed “Black Experience,” the content hub at launch comprises more than 100 titles (and growing). It’s a mix of programming from across the Xfinity content catalog, spanning networks, free and ad-supported video streaming services, and streaming music providers.

Comcast customers have access to a selection of sample content from existing partners like TVOne, Cleo, AspireTV, Revolt, Afro, KweliTV, the Africa Channel, BET, Bet Her, Impact TV, Up Faith & Family and OWN. In addition, Black Experience includes films such as “Pursuit of Happyness,” “Jumping the Broom,” “Poetic Justice,” “Two Can Play That Game,” “Death at a Funeral,” “Guess Who,” “Blue Streak” and “Lakeview Terrace.”

‘Continuum’ & ‘Star Trek’ Actress Rachel Nichols Joins Horror ‘Demigod’
Exclusive: Continuum and Rage star Rachel Nichols is set to star in the horror film Demigod from The Dinner Party writer-director Miles Doleac.

Nichols will play Robin, who travels with her husband Leo (Yohance Myles) to Germany’s Black Forest upon the death of her huntsman grandfather. Soon after arriving at his secluded cabin, Robin realizes the inheritance left her is far more macabre than she had bargained for. She finds herself entrenched in an ancient hunting ritual that will force her to reckon with her family’s past and her own will to overcome the monstrous obstacles in her path.

The film also features Jeremy London, Sherri Eakin, Lindsay Anne Williams, Alli Hart and Doleac. Shoot is due to get underway in December in Mississippi for Doleac’s Historia Films and Artist Vodka Films.

October is here and you know what that means: time for the streaming services to put their spookiest foot forward. Amazon is doing its part for its new releases in October 2020 by rolling out some horror originals and library titles.

This is the month that the much-hyped Blumhouse horror anthology series Welcome to the Blumhouse arrives. “Episodes” of that, Black Box and The Lie launch on Oct. 6 and Evil Eye and Nocturne arrive on Oct. 13. Another horror-adjacent release of note is Truth Seekers, a comedy-horror series from Nick Frost and Simon Pegg.

That’s about it for notable originals. Thankfully October 1 brings the usual burst of fascinating library movie titles. A Knights Tale, Spaceballs, and The Departed all debut on the first of the month. Terminator: Dark Fate arrives on Oct. 9. The superb final season of Mr. Robot will be available on Oct. 6. Hulu is out with its list of everything new coming and everything leaving the streaming service in the month of October.

Highlights include seasons four and seven of “90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days,” Season 8 of “My 600-lb Life” featuring the late star Coliesa McMillian, and a bunch of cooking shows including seasons nine and 10 of “Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern,” Season 13 of “Cutthroat Kitchen” and Season 18 of “Hell’s Kitchen.” All of those come out Oct. 1.

For Halloween, catch the Hulu Original series “Monsterland” out Oct. 2.

On Oct. 14, catch the season premiere of “The Bachelorette” just one day after it airs on ABC.

Leaving Hulu on Oct. 31 are all five of the “Twilight” movies, “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and “Footloose.”

For starters, horror fans will not want to miss the launch of Blumhouse’s “Welcome to the Blumhouse” series with four original films going up across October. The first duo, Black Box and The Lie, land on Prime on October 6th. Then, a week later on the 13th, both Evil Eye and Nocturne debut. October is officially spooky season and it’s nice to know that some streaming services (*cough*Disney+*cough*) are taking that responsibility very seriously.

For its new releases in October 2020, Hulu is premiering the Marvel TV universe’s first-ever outright horror series. Helstrom debuts on Oct. 16 and follows Marvel Comics character Daimon Helstrom as he struggles against all manner of demonic forces. Another spooky treat arriving this month is Monsterland on Oct. 2. This anthology will feature scary stories from around the country.

On the movie side of things, Hulu is bringing out Clive Barker adaptation Books of Blood on Oct. 7 and Bad Hair on Oct. 23. Thank you, Hulu, for your spooky service.

There are a lot of non-Hulu TV shows of note arriving in October as well. The final season of Homeland will be available to stream on Oct. 26. The premiere of Saturday Night Live‘s 46th season will arrive on Oct.

We’re now just over halfway through September, so let’s turn our attention to what’s coming to Hulu next month. Every October, the streaming service celebrates “Huluween” by adding a bunch of new Halloween-themed content. And this year is no different, with countless classic movies going up on the site that you’ll want to check out to get you in the spooky mood as well as a few notable originals.

These include anthology series Monsterland (October 2nd) and horror comedy film Bad Hair (October 23rd), starring Lena Waithe, Vanessa Williams and Laverne Cox, from Dear White People director Justin Simien. Superhero fans will also want to catch supernatural-themed Marvel series Helstrom (October 16th). The final production from Marvel Television, it’s sadly already doomed to just the one season.

Peacock is going mad for the monkey.

An all-new “Curious George” animated movie is coming to NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service, along with the first nine seasons of the TV series, three films and two holiday specials from the beloved franchise.

Peacock original film “Curious George: Go West, Go Wild” will be available to users on the service’s free, ad-supported tier in addition to Peacock Premium subscribers. The movies, specials and Seasons 1-9 of the “Curious George” series will be available only to Premium customers.

The new movie will debut on the service Sept. 8. In the new movie, George and Ted (the Man With the Yellow Hat) travel to cousin Ginny’s farm for a relaxing weekend in the country. But their plans are upended when her farm animals escape — and with the help of friendly farmhand Emmett they have to round up the herd, encountering various gentle adventures along the way.

Very sad news is breaking today as veteran animator, writer, and producer Joe Ruby has reportedly passed away. Perhaps best known for co-creating the famous cartoon dog Scooby-Doo along with his longtime collaborator Ken Spears, Ruby died of natural causes on Wednesday in Westlake Village, California, though he continued to be creative until the very end. "He never stopped writing and creating, even as he aged," his grandson Benjamin Ruby said. The television legend was 87 years old.

Born in 1930, Ruby had begun his career in entertainment working as an inbetweener and editor for Walt Disney Productions. Following a stint in the U. S. Army, he then moved on to Hanna-Barbera Productions, where he first met Ken Spears. Sparking a years-long partnership, the two would team up to create many original characters and shows for Hanna-Barbera, such as Dynomutt, Dog Wonder, and Jabberjaw.
